Do you want to help me find a garden gnome?

It is my birthday on Monday, and I will get some money and I would like a garden gnome.

Now don't be like that, each to their own, I'd just like one.

We have a fish pond and I'd like something old looking and natural colours, fishing into the pond. When I was a kid, my mum had a brown stone teddy with a red scarf who fished into their pond. It was nice.

I don't want cute. I don't want cartoon. I don't want bright colours.

I don't mind what it is (but actually not that keen on a teddy) quite like the idea of a frog etc. Old gnarled, ancient looking, and preferably with a fishing rod.

To give you an idea, Jeremy Fisher from Beatrix Potter would do it.

Price is max £30.

This is an odd admission- but I spent my teens and 20s stealing gnomes. I stole the first, then felt guilt but couldn't remember where I took it from. So I put it in another garden. But impulse meant I took one too. I spent a decade taking gnomes from one garden, and leaving a "new" gnome in its place. I did this at least 30 times. Stopped (children and therapy) and a decade later my new neighbor showed me her favourite gnome- it was favoured because she didn't buy it - "he arrived". I'd left him there. She hasn't noticed the stolen gnome and just loved the mystery one. I spent a lot of time feeling guilty. That made me feel better (a bit)
That’s excellent. I think you probably spread more joy than annoyance. Flowers

I have 3 gnomes: Gnorman the gnome....stone coloured. Walter Wheelbarrow and Willie Wheelbarrow.. plastic, coloured. Tasteless? Yes, but I don't care.

I like the style and vibe of these, but I really want one fishing in the pond.

she's lovely.

If my kids were smaller, she would definitely come and live at the bottom of our garden

Only 'pretty good'?

Well, that's disappointing.

@TimeIhadaNameChange

He's the one I linked to up thread. He is amazing.

In the link I found he was £184, so yours at £74 seems quite reasonable!

(still out of my budget though)

Grin sorry, he is pretty good as in if I unwrapped him, I would be happy and put him in th egarden, but as I am buying for myself he isn't quite 100% there! (he's the closest so far though0

@BebesChamber

I don't have any gnomes in my garden but now I want one.
I decided a while ago to stop listening to the voices about what is and isn't cool/trendy/tasteful etc etc and just get what I like.

So I have a dancing frog by my pond and I will ahve a fishing gnome.

I mean really - who cares? and who does it effect except me and it makes me smile.

NoSquirrels · 19/02/2021 23:25

Wow - there’s a world of stuff you can put in your garden apparently but very few fishing gnomes. I think you should buy an ornament you like the most, and fashion a fishing rod for it. Custom design!
