What's the strangest call you've ever had from your child's school

Pancake day always makes me remember this one.

You know that cold feeling when the phone goes and its school? Is my child ill, hurt, in trouble etc. etc.

A few years ago mine went on pancake day. The school receptionist said "we're sorry about this Lists but Lists-junior has been hit over the head with a frying pan"

(turned out thankfully it was only a very light, one and they'd been having a pancake race when he tripped, the boy behind him tripped and somehow in the tangle the frying pan whacked him on the head!)

Has anyone had a stranger call than that?

Lunchtime in Reception, think she'd only been there a week or so. "We're sorry Owl, Littlest Owl has eaten all the cucumber off the salad bar and we don't know what to do about it"

Not a phone call, but a general message sent to all the parents in reception class...
'The school bus has NOT been in a car crash'
The full story was the bus had been stuck in traffic for two hours on the motorway on the way to a school trip. They decided it was to pre empt the children talking about the crash on the way there limiting the time there as all the children found it rather exciting.

The school called whilst I was at work, and told the receptionist the NEEDED to speak to me ASAP

DS aged 5, had joined the wrong lunch queue

He had taken sandwiches, but had joined the dinner queue with his friends, and had had a school dinner. 😱

Before everyone had a mobile... My Aunt was in a meeting at work, when her assistant burst in to inform everyone that my cousin's school was on fire.

Apparently ds (under 7) was being sent home for sexual harassment of a class mate. He had claimed one day he would get to kiss John *fake name...
I mean really?
Both 12 now and still mates. No snogging ever. And John's dm has no issues that ds is a sex offender in the making..

'Can I check that you know your son will be performing in the drama production until 8pm tomorrow.'

Nope, hadn't a clue and had a mad scramble to sort out pick up. Not a hint from son himself. He hadn't even mentioned the rehearsals. It was as if it was some dark secret that only the severest torture could wring from his lips.

Just ringing to let you know that little serena's head was accidentally stood on by another child. He is absolutely fine, no marks or bruising, just wanted to let you know before little serena told you.

Another one, for same child. You need to come immediately, he has a very suspicious looking rash. Rushed to school, that's a birthmark i said, I know it looks unusual therefore you have told you about it on numerous occasions to avoid this situation i said. They asked me if I was sure. I said I was sure, it was checked when he was born and he is now 5 and it's exactly the same.

I once got a phone call where I thought the receptionist said ds1's vomit had come out. I did think it was a weird way of telling me he'd been sick. Ds1 hated being sick and would become quite hysterical when he was so I asked how he was. The receptionist said he was fine and that he said he felt much better now. I thought that was a bit strange so told her he was normally in a right state when he was sick. Oh no! she said he's not been sick, his GROMMET has come out! She said he was quite ok and that he said his ear feels better. She'd only rung as they hadn't ever had this happen before so she thought she'd better let me know in case I needed to do something. They'd put the grommet in a bag for me to collect at home time.

"Could you come up the the school quickly as X has had an accident?"

In my head I was packing for an overnight stay in hospital.

Reality was: she had wet herself and needed a change of clothes. Grin
I did speak to them about the way they told me.

Ds had been having chest pain was diagnosed as costochondritis yet I got a call from the school who had decided in their medical wisdom that they’d ‘heard of it but Mrs something in welfare said it doesn’t just Happen that it’s a result of trauma so please explain why he has this’ wtf 😱 I was not impressed

A few years ago before DS1's Autism/ADHD diagnosis the school would call me every time he swore in a lesson, it was a joke. One time i got the usual 'hi Wine, Wine junior has been swearing in class again...and there was a problem during handwriting practice'. Okay. So at hometime i come to get him, the teacher is holding a little whiteboard, she says 'so we told Wine junior to practice writing his name joined up, the proper way we do it here in school. he wrote this instead' shows me the whiteboard with a sullen look on her face FUCK HANDWRITING he wrote, and not joined up! Shock

He had a nosebleed. He was 14! It was a minor one as well, hadn't even got a drip on his shirt. They wanted to send him home Hmm I could hear DS in the background so asked to speak to him and he started apologising saying he was fine and wished he'd just asked the students beside/behind for a tissue instead of putting his hand up because it lead to such a fuss on the school's part!
