When you say a phrase and it immediately reminds you of a song and you start singing it

Sorry for the clunky title, but I have two.
Most recent; tonight, DH and me were talking about nothing, just chitchat about our teenage kids and random sayings they say, and he said “it means nothing to me” then he went “ohhh Vienna”
Made us laugh. Although you probably had to be there.

The other one is last March when we had a team meeting at work just before first lockdown, we are a tiny company, only 4 of us. My boss ended a lengthy uplifting talk saying “where do we go from here”
My lovely colleague immediately said “is it down to the lake I fear”

You probably had to be there for that one too!

@EndoplasmicReticulum

This happened to me last night watching the news.

Politician "this should be the Final Lockdown".

Doodle ooo dooo doodle ooo ooo ooo

Grin

In my head, the words 'Gordon Brown" are always followed by 'texture like sun'. It's a relief he's not in the news much any more.

MariahLucas · 16/02/2021 21:28

@MissLucyEyelesbarrow
Is he heading west?
Someone said today, I’m in the middle
My thoughts, of a chain reaction...

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 16/02/2021 21:33

He sure is, @MariahLucas Smile

Theresa May has a similar effect - in her case, Theresa May - Should Have Stayed At Home Yesterday (dum, dum, dum..).

There's a shop I go to, staffed by grumpy old ladies. A hand-written sign on the door 'Push it'

AAHHH PUSH IT REAL GOOD Grin

How bizarre (do do do, do do do, do do do, do do do,do do do, do do do, do do do do do...ooh baby (ooh baby) you're makin me crazy (you're making me crazy) every time I look around (look around) every time I look around (every time I look around)...etc Grin

Embroideredstars · 16/02/2021 21:47

I do this!

With songs and lines from books/plays as well. Sadly though I'm getting old and my colleagues, (most young enough to be my kids and from a multitude of multi cultural backgrounds) are not familiar with 90s indie kid/grunge genre mixed with 18th century literature Grin

BoogieFeet · 16/02/2021 21:50

...got a theory = it could be bunnies (Buffy)
Did finally show DS the episode so he would understand why we always started singing that..he had copied us without knowing why for some time..

A regular in our house is Sham 69's

"Hurry up Harry come on!"

I always wanted the job choosing music for Homes Under the Hammer!!

HunterHearstHelmsley · 16/02/2021 21:59

@freezingcoldsnow

Every time my son says 'stop' (usually because I'm annoying him), I sing 'hammer time! Do do do do do, dooooo do, can't touch this' and if he's really lucky I do the dance.....
I like to mix it up!

Stop.. Hammer time!
Stop.. In the name of love
Stop.. oh yeah wait a minute mr postman

HunterHearstHelmsley · 16/02/2021 22:00

In my house, someone just said... the roof.. I obviously replied... is on fire.

500BusStops · 16/02/2021 22:01

Love this thread!
Mine are:

  • Judas Priest 'breaking the law' when doing anything a bit wrong
  • Bon Jovi 'food on the floor and you're to blame / you give dogs a bad name' (to DDog who is a messy eater)

My "stop" is "stand back where you are, before you go to far..."

InsideNumberNine · 16/02/2021 22:07

Whoever said Fools Garden - YY!

From a distance is always followed by the Bette Midler classic but we have to make up the lyrics as we don't know them.

At work, when someone says "question" I've been known to make them ask it again in the style of Destiny's Child.

dudsville · 16/02/2021 22:10

When my OH says "I'm easy" in answer to a question, I have to ask, obviously, "like a Sunday morning?"

VienneseWhirligig · 16/02/2021 22:13

I now have one sodding singular sensation in my brain! Grin

Every time Boris says "we're all in this together" - once we know that we are, we're all stars and we see that...

We have National Express buses where I live. You can imagine how that one goes when we are talking about buses and the need to get one...

Longdistance · 16/02/2021 22:16

The office I work in is like this. We have the radio on in the background which probably influences us.
Wednesdays gets ‘Ohhhh, we’re halfway there...’ then my colleagues reply.
If something goes wrong cue everyone humming the Benny Hill theme tune.

dudsville · 16/02/2021 22:17

Your office sounds fun Longdistance!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 17/02/2021 02:42

(Another one - if anyone says "are you sure?" Me and DS look at each other and then "you wanna live like common people..."

Showing my age here, but I'd want to launch into "Goodbye, farewell, I'm not sure what to do" (The Allisons, Eurovision 1961). It would make my decade if there was a likeminded person in the close vicinity, with the exact same train of thought, to jump in and do the harmonies Grin

I had a job years ago which involved taking support calls from lots of people across the business, and there was one frequent caller with the name Susila. Even though she was always lovely and a very pleasant person to deal with, I still had to forcibly purpose my lips and clench my fists every time I answered and she said "Hi, it's Susila", to avoid belting out across the office "You're breaking my heart!" Grin

Yes! Quite relieved it's not just me.

I obviously watch "Pointless" too much but always find myself thinking "and I could've been there!" after Alexander Armstrong says "One step further" when they're going in to the second round.

gingercatsarebest · 17/02/2021 07:16

@RightOnTheEdge

I do this all the time! My dc just think I'm mad. "Muuuum! Why do you have a song for everything?" 😆
omg this is me! DD now starts singing random old songs.and I ask Oh.... how do you know that song..mum you sing it all the time!
gingercatsarebest · 17/02/2021 07:17
