When you say a phrase and it immediately reminds you of a song and you start singing it

Sorry for the clunky title, but I have two.
Most recent; tonight, DH and me were talking about nothing, just chitchat about our teenage kids and random sayings they say, and he said “it means nothing to me” then he went “ohhh Vienna”
Made us laugh. Although you probably had to be there.

The other one is last March when we had a team meeting at work just before first lockdown, we are a tiny company, only 4 of us. My boss ended a lengthy uplifting talk saying “where do we go from here”
My lovely colleague immediately said “is it down to the lake I fear”

You probably had to be there for that one too!

Oh another favourite is when the kids say good morning and I sing “good mornin’” from singing in the rain to them. It cheers me right up and usually raises a smile from them!

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 15/02/2021 22:25

I do this constantly, I swear there's a song for every occasion. My old boss was totally on the same wavelength (age) and always knew what was coming next...my children hate it.

rednsparkley · 15/02/2021 22:29

😂😂🎶I have found my people - me and my husband do this all the time - the kids used to roll their eyes but now they are nearly as bad as us 😂

freezingcoldsnow · 15/02/2021 22:29

Every time my son says 'stop' (usually because I'm annoying him), I sing 'hammer time! Do do do do do, dooooo do, can't touch this' and if he's really lucky I do the dance.....

tapdancingmum · 15/02/2021 22:29

The good old coronavirus one 'we're all in this together' gets my High School Musical going.

Also, if either of the dd's say they've had a dream then Abba is sung 😀

FunTimes2020 · 15/02/2021 22:30

I do this too, with an assortment of songs! And also classic tv/film lines..
If I hear the words "get out"...I always say "of my pub" in my best Peggy Mitchell voice...in my head!
Also, as I see my my work mate Jonny walking into the room, it's "heeeear's Jonny!" Again in my head, at least I think it is! Grin

Charley50 · 15/02/2021 22:30

I do this all the time at work, anything triggers a song. I've got a new manager whose exactly the same, it's great. 😂😂

painbrain · 15/02/2021 22:31

'You're so vain' - said to anyone looking too long in the mirror! It's inadvertently already in the tune as it's coming out of my mouth!

itispersonal · 15/02/2021 22:32

It's means nothing to me ..., ah Vienna

itispersonal · 15/02/2021 22:33

That is my dp and I, too our dd.
HelloViroids · 15/02/2021 22:33

How bizarre.. dah dah dah, dah dah dah....

itispersonal · 15/02/2021 22:39

I do this a lot and stop can have 3 different songs.

Stop , collaborate and listen

Stop, hammer time

And stop right now thank you very much. I need someone with a human touch.

Randomist one is just eat it and go into weird al yanokivik? Ripping of beat it by Michael jacket

RandomDent · 15/02/2021 22:44

Ours is Maybe.
One will start: I don’t really wanna know how your garden grows...
Then: It’s because you’re a Londoner...
And finally: I’m amazed by the way you love me all the time
We have to do all 3.

AndTheMillions · 15/02/2021 22:45

I can’t even hear the words ‘pancake day’ today without getting the song from maid Marian stuck in my head

boredinthouse · 15/02/2021 22:49

Ha I do this all the time. More so now my kids have said how much it annoys them.

VienneseWhirligig · 15/02/2021 23:05

Another one - if anyone says "are you sure?" Me and DS look at each other and then "you wanna live like common people..."

I think on reflection we are very annoying people. We also have reactions for anyone who says "boom" (shake shake shake the room) and "whoa" (sweet child of mine). We often do it at the same time. I think it is surely time he left home Grin

RoomAtTheEndOfTheWorld · 15/02/2021 23:08

I often say ' DS...you need to calm down' when he's being a bit daft then Taylor Swift released that song and I end up singing it at DS instead of saying it now. Grin

BackforGood · 15/02/2021 23:10

I've found my people.

I also have this trouble when I meet people called Oliver, or Roxanne, and so forth.

Nutrigrainygoodness · 15/02/2021 23:14

@MrsSugar

Literally any time someone says I’ve got the key I instantly sing in my head I’ve got the secret !
Every time I leave the house with dd (11) I say "have you got the key" she replies "🎵 I got the key, I got the secrrrreeettt🎵"

If we are in a rush I will just say "I've got the key, I've got the secret let's go"

Obviously "were half way there"

Today dd was chatting about something and said "just the 2 of us" and I replied "we can make it if we try, just the 2 of us" and that's been stuck in my head all day.

greendress789 · 15/02/2021 23:15

I love this thread! This is so me. DC thinks I'm crazy and can't l possibly have a song for everything. But I do 😂

Disneyblue · 15/02/2021 23:18

I have a friend called Roxanne at work.

Yep, in my head everytime her name is mentioned. Poor girl.

BillyAndTheSillies · 15/02/2021 23:19

"It means nothing to me...." OOOHHHH VIENNA

Snooks1971 · 15/02/2021 23:22

Phenomenal

Doot do, do do do

Phenomenal

Doot do do do

Every. Single. Time.

In my head, at meetings. One manger says it constantly. One day it's going to pop out my mouth!!

Snooks1971 · 15/02/2021 23:35

@smallandimperfectlyformed

My girls hate it whenever anyone says 'turn around' at home because I immediately add Bright Eyes- Total Eclipse of The Heart! Especially annoys my oldest but I couldn't stop even if I wanted to (I don't!)!
I really need you tonight! Forever’s gone start tonight! Nothing I can do, it’s a total eclipse of the heart.

(Bows then curtseys, retreats backwards into smoke machine)
