When you say a phrase and it immediately reminds you of a song and you start singing it

Sorry for the clunky title, but I have two.
Most recent; tonight, DH and me were talking about nothing, just chitchat about our teenage kids and random sayings they say, and he said “it means nothing to me” then he went “ohhh Vienna”
Made us laugh. Although you probably had to be there.

The other one is last March when we had a team meeting at work just before first lockdown, we are a tiny company, only 4 of us. My boss ended a lengthy uplifting talk saying “where do we go from here”
My lovely colleague immediately said “is it down to the lake I fear”

You probably had to be there for that one too!

In the car if DH asks which way next I love it when it’s left because then I can sing “to the left, to the left” then carry on as Beyoncé belting it out!

MariahLucas · 15/02/2021 23:48

Someone just has to say, “looking back” and I turn into Elaine Paige with, “I could have played it differently.”

dontputitinyourmouth · 15/02/2021 23:53

See @MariahLucas I’d carry on with “over my shoulder”

Comefromaway · 15/02/2021 23:55

@MariahLucas

Wasn’t it gooooood?
MariahLucas · 15/02/2021 23:55

Oh so good!

Justmuddlingalong · 15/02/2021 23:55

There's a guy in our town who has a dog called Eileen.
I love to hear him say "come on Eileen", it makes me smile every time I hear it.

Comefromaway · 15/02/2021 23:56

I really ought to listen to some music that isn’t musical theatre

MariahLucas · 15/02/2021 23:58

@dontputitinyourmouth
I can see the look I your eyeyeye? 😀😀

dontputitinyourmouth · 16/02/2021 00:00

That’s the one!!@MariahLucas😂

MariahLucas · 16/02/2021 00:00

On a really bad day someone just needs to start a sentence with “so” in a meeting . I’ll let you do the rest - really must sleep!

Wtfdidwedo · 16/02/2021 00:01

I feel sad for the people who don't automatically song at every opportunity to be honest!

RightOnTheEdge · 16/02/2021 00:04

Oh no, I am so tired and I seriously need to sleep but now my head is filled with all these songs 😴😆

DonttouchthatLarry · 16/02/2021 00:07

We used to do this in the office all the time! I miss working with people - it's not so much fun doing it on your own when wfh Sad

JustCallMeBrittany · 16/02/2021 01:13

This is basically how my brain works! My big brother is the same. DH not so much🤣

JustCallMeBrittany · 16/02/2021 01:14

Cannot hear the word sedated (which I hear daily at work) without going full Ramones in my head 🤣

sma1978 · 16/02/2021 01:19

When my teenage DD says, 'it's the weekend, 'i get up when I want' my response is always 'except on Wednesdays when I get rudely awakened by the dustman'

Wtfdidwedo · 16/02/2021 07:57

One of our favourites is when someone says 'wait', I can't get help but launch into the rap from Love The Way You Lie.

AlexaPlayWhiteNoise · 16/02/2021 08:01

"tell me why.." "AIN'T NOTHING BUT A HEARTACHE!"

Among many, many others. It's a family trait here Grin

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 16/02/2021 08:36

@JustCallMeBrittany

Cannot hear the word sedated (which I hear daily at work) without going full Ramones in my head 🤣
The word 'vision' has the same effect on me - I get a hymn playing in my head, 'Be Thou My Vision, Oh Lord of My Heart'. I am not a churchgoer and haven't sung a hymn for 20 odd years, but this one is well and truly stuck.
MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 16/02/2021 08:40

"Do you remember?"

DH and I will always respond with 'Kayyyyyyyyy-leeeeeeeigh'

Clawdy · 16/02/2021 08:45

If I hear "Thank you very much", I have to add "For the Aintree Iron..." Have to be a certain age to remember that one!

Iwantacampervan · 16/02/2021 08:48

Yes, Clawdy I do that too.
Also names - Oliver & Jacob (Jacob & sons from Joseph..) are two which get me singing (in my head)

Iwantacampervan · 16/02/2021 08:50

I am also known to utter lines from (very old) adverts e.g. Let's go..British Caledonian

EndoplasmicReticulum · 16/02/2021 08:50

This happened to me last night watching the news.

Politician "this should be the Final Lockdown".

Doodle ooo dooo doodle ooo ooo ooo

ProfessorInkling · 16/02/2021 08:59

This makes me pang for these little interactions with friends, colleagues. Ahh.

My kids and I get Hamilton references in wherever we can. What time is it? Showtime! etc etc.
