Dianxi Xiaoge - Thank you - another rabbit hole to explore!

MissConductUS · 18/02/2021 22:43

Well done, @Sunbird24!

I step away again and it's all moved on without me.

We did miss you Eggy Smile I assumed that you had just gone on a walkabout as they say in Oz, and would return at some point. I don't think they changed your bumper as the replacement part is very expensive on most cars. They probably touched up the paint and buffed it.

I have just heard a teaser for the nightly news - 'We'll tell you how much...' and that can only mean One Thing.

Earlier this afternoon my downstairs neighbour phoned to ask if I could lend a hand as she was stuck trying to get into her parking spot. I pulled on my trusty snow boots and found a little crowd of neighbours with shovels and old towels trying to dig her out and create a little traction. Eventually, with some creative driving into the depths of the bank of snow against the back fence followed by backing out and then down the alley, neighbour managed to get her car backed into my usual spot and I parked mine in hers. We are going to stick to that arrangement for a bit.

halfpasteleven · 19/02/2021 04:48

Well done on the nomination @Sunbird24, and as @HelenaJustina says celebrate for just receiving it! Best of luck to you.

@mathanxiety sounds like you have a lovely community there - I hope the new parking system works out well.

I've ordered a new dustpan and brush.
And some ice lollly moulds. I'm looking forward to seeing DSs face when he sees them. We can look up recipes for, ahem, healthier treats then.

Squirrel26 · 19/02/2021 10:47

There are several men up ladders in the corridor. They don’t have high vis on, but the ladders are bright yellow.

This morning my neighbour down the road’s car was parked in my next door neighbour’s drive. Neighbour next door went round to neighbour down the road, then neighbour down the road went round to neighbour next door, then there was some laughter, then they all went back to their own houses. The car remained where it was. No idea what that’s about.

Spudlet · 19/02/2021 10:52

I have pegged my washing out for the first time since autumn and now it is raining. It’s only a light shower though and there’s a good breeze so I’m going to leave it out.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/02/2021 10:55

I am back from the surgery, I have an appointment for the pre-op exam and the date for the op confirmed. Yay! (Nothing to disturb the calmness of this thread!)

soddingkitten · 19/02/2021 11:04

DS1 is just now making his breakfast. Hmm

Sodding and I had a lovely cuddle in bed this morning. I am pretty sure I only got a look in because my boys were having a lie in. Sodding would have gone to DS1 first if the option had been available.

soddingkitten · 19/02/2021 11:05

Congratulations also to Sunbird. 👏

Champagneforeveryone · 19/02/2021 12:15

A productive day so far, DS has had his braces off after 3 years, DDog 3 2 is at the vets having her trotter x-rayed, I've bought kindling and fire lighters from the country store, done a pile of ironing, hopefully sold a bike rack and now about to have lunch before work Confused

SpudsandGravy · 19/02/2021 13:15

Enjoying my day off. Have ordered a small food delivery for Sunday lunch to come in the morning, and in a while I plan to go for a walk while I listen to podcasts or an audiobook. In the meantime I'm still watching Australian Masterchef with my feet resting on a hot water bottle :-)

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/02/2021 15:00

@Champagneforeveryone Congratulations to your DS. Does he have to keep a retainer?

DD took a foto of all the dental casts made to document the history of her teeth. As she was compliant and finished the treatment we got the 'parental contribution' to her treatment back in full.

MissConductUS · 19/02/2021 15:31

It's still snowing here. The really big flakes that fall slowly.

@MissConductUS - The Dickens Christmas Carol variety?
Our snow has completly melted and it's been 10°C today.

Sunbird24 · 19/02/2021 16:26

I had a supermarket ham & mustard sandwich for lunch that cleared my sinuses! Making myself a smoothie now with frozen berries, avocado, almond milk and a spoonful of Nutella... no idea what vitamins and minerals it covers but it’s got be at least two of my 5 a day hasn’t it!

Nydj · 19/02/2021 16:33

Yay to the return of men in the corridor at @Squirrel26’s workplace - perhaps their return, yellow ladders and high vis would have been too exciting for this thread?
I’m glad your op has been confirmed @Prokupatuscrakedatus and hope it goes well.
I have finished work and Spanish practice on Duolingo which I started after all the talk on an earlier thread about the green one.

Champagneforeveryone · 19/02/2021 16:52

Thank you prok, he's (in typical teenage fashion) utterly unmoved by it, apart from saying his mouth felt bigger.

DH is taking him later to pick up his retainer which will be worn every night

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/02/2021 16:57

@nydj
Thank you - I hope all goes well, too.
Spanish is a lovely sounding language, too. I am currently stuck at the locative skill of Turkish. I do Babel as well, but my head is on strike.

I envy (calmy but strongly) those who grew up with more than one language.

EggyPegg · 19/02/2021 16:57

The return of men in the corridor is pleasingly familiar.

I took the DCs to the park in the howling wind and rain this morning. With many many many elements of parenting, I am winging it. Not so in the case of staying warm and dry at the park. I have excellent outer clothing and I always take a picnic blanket for the cold/wet bench. This meant that the DC could rush around for longer as I was content to stay there.

Later I went to Lidl for cat food, litter and peanut butter. I have never been sure if I like peanut butter so decided to make myself like it through repeated exposure. It has resulted in a somewhat unhealthy addiction.

Enko · 19/02/2021 16:59

Ddog is asleep on top of me. All 29 kilo of a lapdog.

EggyPegg · 19/02/2021 17:01

@MissConductUS, it was all done through the insurance so I don't think cost saving was high on their list of priorities. The man who collected it said they wouldn't be able to touch it as it wasn't part of the claim, and it wasn't close enough to the bump damage to be considered part of it. But it's still gone. They've given me no information about what they actually did. Just a 12 month guarantee for 'work completed'.

EggyPegg · 19/02/2021 17:01

@Enko

Ddog is asleep on top of me. All 29 kilo of a lapdog.
Whoa. That's the same as my 9 year old. Is he a dog that still thinks he's a tiny puppy?
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/02/2021 17:07

enko I hope you wanted to feel warm and squished?

MissConductUS · 19/02/2021 18:34

Eggy, the way it works here if you have an insurance claim for damage to your car, the insurance adjuster or estimator will give the shop a list of things they are authorized to fix. As the shop takes things apart if they notice additional damage they can ring the adjuster and ask that it be added to the authorized scope. That may be what happened with your bumper.

I found some Sylvanian Families for DNiece's birthday, ordered them gift wrapped and sent straight to her. So that's another job done.
DM phoned for an hour. Which was nice.
