I am fresh out of the shower after doing 6 miles on the stationary bike and 20 minutes of weight lifting. Dgirlcat observed and supervised my whole workout from a nearby chair with a comfy throw on it. My arms are getting to be a bit muscular. I'm not sure if this is a good look for me or not, but at my age, it hardly matters.

Prok, I am glad your shop has reopened. I read an article last night in the Wall Street Journal (yes, I subscribe to the WSJ) about the state of lockdown and the vaccination efforts in Germany and France. I hadn't realized it was quite that grim. Stay safe.

Champagne, it is very expensive here, but private universities receive no government subsidies here, so the tuition and fees reflect something close to the actual cost of running them. We have been saving for their uni expenses since they were toddlers and my lovely MIL has helped out as well. Even with that, having two going at once is a bit of a challenge financially.

Miss
I was afraid when I had cancer and 2 DC under 2, now I am not.
I am waiitng for the vulnerable to be vaccinated, everybody else (me included) should accept that, to adapt a quote 'Leben ist immer lebensgefährlich' and this is no life for an ape.

forgetthehousework · 13/03/2021 13:50

I've eaten a toasted teacake and a sausage roll for lunch. My only exercise today was walking fifty yards from the car to buy them.

I am strangely content.

Rain...

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 12: Calmly through the day (
HelenaJustina · 13/03/2021 18:05

It’s too quiet in my house, it’s making me uneasy and suspicious...

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 13/03/2021 18:20

Helena I used to get that feeling when the DC were small ... Are you alone?

DH came home from the shop and really got the right type of wheels for his chair, so he can remove the brick propping it up.
But he didn't get seals ("There are so many different types, Prok"), so the leak has to wait until I can get out again.

Squirrel26 · 13/03/2021 18:50

My parcel turned up (sorry for doubting you, Royal Mail), so I am wearing my new khaki sweatshirt that I bought especially for lounging around the house in.

It hailed very briefly earlier, then stopped after about 3 minutes.

HelenaJustina · 13/03/2021 19:02

No @Prokupatuscrakedatus all 6 of us are here! Which is why the quiet is unnerving. I called them all down to feed them, 2 had been reading (1 just finished their book, 1 brought the book downstairs, ate and is reading it again now at the kitchen table) 1 was playing playmobil and I suspect eldest was on their tablet. If this is a taste of what I can expect tomorrow, I’ll be very happy!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 13/03/2021 19:08

Helena - as long as they are all reading and playing and not being inventive with fire (looking at you DB) or water (DS) .... best wishes for tomorrow then!

I think my monstera needs a bigger pott.

Murray Walker has died! He was 97. For those who don’t know, he was an F1 commentator for many years and thus was the soundtrack to the childhood Sunday afternoons of a great many Brits of my sort of age. He was very enthusiastic, very funny, given to occasional verbal mishaps, and by all accounts a thoroughly decent man.

I have just been reading a list of Walkerisms, in case anyone is interested they’re here. They’ve been making me giggle. Bless him. He was the same age as my Grandpa would have been.

murraywalkerisms.tripod.com/ Grin and 97 is a good age to get to ...

mathanxiety · 13/03/2021 20:22

I cleared Friday night's dishes left in the sink (didn't have the will to do them after a very long day at work), and put on two loads of laundry this morning, with one more to go. Something in the wash turned a white towel blue-grey so I'm going to rewash it with the other towels and a drop of bleach.

A package I had ordered about a week ago arrived, much earlier than promised.

We're promised a few inches of wet snow on Monday. Winter doesn't give up easily here.

MissConductUS · 13/03/2021 22:36

We have snow in the forecast for next week too.

Tonight we set our clocks ahead by an hour, so lose an hour of sleep. I recall that this happens later in the UK, temporarily shortening the time gap for me to four hours.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 14/03/2021 06:34

Good morning,
no rain at the moment and I enjoy my silent morning coffee.
Clocks change end of March here , I think, but I never pay enough attention.

Fiercestcalm · 14/03/2021 07:20

I am officially middle aged, DH and I have compared backache, he suggested going to the pub and we both agreed we were too knackered.
I also spent 8 hours gardening ( or more accurately the monthly lopping of triffids which grow prolifically here ).

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 14/03/2021 07:27

I know triffids only from the film - I assume (well, I hope) you are lopping (lovely word) some other plant? I tried to google but I got nowhere.

HelenaJustina · 14/03/2021 07:54

Happy Mother’s Day to all on this thread. Whether you are remembering someone special or being bounced on by preschoolers, or mother (as a verb) people not biologically related to you... I hope you all have a lovely day.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 14/03/2021 08:03

Oh yes, have a good day all of you. Flowers Cake

We celebrate "mothers" completely secular on the second Sunday in May.

Squirrel26 · 14/03/2021 08:56

Hopefully M&S will be delivering flowers to my mum between 11.05 and 12.05.

They’d better do. They’re on their last chance after they sent her birthday flowers to Nottingham (several hundred miles from where she actually lives).

EggyPegg · 14/03/2021 10:12

How did they manage that @Squirrel26?!

DS1 woke me with a card he'd made at school. He's very proud of it. DS2 told me that he'd made a card but that they're not allowed to bring it home until next Friday and his teacher was checking with the Head. They're at the same school so goodness knows what he's on about.

I've just made pancakes and put a wash on as it's cold but sunny out there, so I'm going to hang it out. The DC and DH are going to have a fire in the chiminea later to burn more 20 year old paperwork, so I'd like it done before then.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 14/03/2021 10:21

@EggyPegg - If we had an open fire to play around with I am sure DH's paperwork problem would be sorted in no time and by him.

But we haven't, so it stays on the kitchen table, and desk1, desk2, desk3, my second best clothes airer, the floor, a re-purposed set of bunk beds, several chairs ....
But I have taken my Raskog back - small victory.

MissConductUS · 14/03/2021 12:51

Happy Mother's Day all! As with Prok, it's the second Sunday in May in the US.

Welcome, @Fiercestcalm, and thanks for sharing your age related degenerative news. DH and I are both considering hip surgery. I may buy some potting soil soon, but it's still much to cold to consider starting work on the garden here in New York.

DH is still asleep due to the switch to daylight savings time, but DS just got up. He and DH got haircuts together yesterday, which pleases me immensely for some reason.

Champagneforeveryone · 14/03/2021 16:54

Happy Mother's Day all Smile

I've spent the day asleep but DS has just given me a card with Chris Whitty on the front and an Emma Bridgewater mug. He baked a cake last night (nocturnal baking is thankfully as hard core as he gets) but he and DH cracked and tried it while I was in bed. He's going to cook dinner shortly so all in all I feel very spoiled.

I will phone DM shortly. Last year her card arrived 6 weeks late (thankfully it was postmarked the day I posted it!) This year it arrived on Thursday as it took less than 24 hours to travel 250 miles.

Spudlet · 14/03/2021 17:01

Happy Mother’s Day everyone. I am also feeling very warm and fuzzy inside. Last year was a bit of a disaster as DH didn’t think to do anything and I was rather upset, but this year he and DS have been busy and I have two cards (one made at school and one at home), flowers, chocolates, and a half bottle of Prosecco. I also got more flowers from the PTA (all the mums did) and from the church - I found the latter on the doorstep, where my neighbour the canon had left them. And we’ve had roast lamb from the local pub for dinner. So I’m very happy right now.

Did a 5 mile run today although my foot was a bit niggly, but I have the physio this week so hopefully she’ll put it right. And I got a new game working on my very cheap and rather old laptop, albeit with all the graphics settings turned down to the very lowest they can be. So it’s been a nice day. Now watching Up with DS, FiL and DH wi the fire lit.

Squirrel26 · 14/03/2021 18:20

I think they put them in the wrong lorry, @EggyPegg. Grin Today’s flowers were apparently delivered within the anticipated time window. Hopefully to the right person.
