Champagne I'm envious! We did St. Ives to Zennor in 2018 & Porlock to Minehead last year. Breathtaking (in more ways than one!)
Currently looking at the feasability of walking Hadrian's Wall.
I am due at work in an hour so really need to go and get in the shower. I wish every morning that I could retire.

Champagneforeveryone · 26/02/2021 08:45

helena , yes a certain amount of car / van shuffling necessary, although we are exceptionally fortunate that part of the path is actually about a mile from our front door and comprises part of our regular dog walks.

Logistically it's going to be a bit of a nightmare, but lockdown has made us question several things and we actually need a project to give us something to focus on.

Squirrel26 · 26/02/2021 10:25

Teams keeps telling me my microphone is muted. I know it’s muted. It’s muted because I’m eating a delicious breakfast Twix. (I’ve been in this meeting for 2 hours and I’m losing the will to live.)

HelenaJustina · 26/02/2021 11:23

@Squirrel26 the breakfast of champions! I wish I had a twix... unfortunately no chocolate in Lent!

Spudlet · 26/02/2021 11:44

@Champagneforeveryone What a fabulous project! We have about three long-distance paths that join up quite nearby and I have an ambition to run one of them one day. I was going to do my marathon along one of them but then DH pointed out that it would take him so long to get the point I needed to be dropped off at that he’d be on the road all day, so I’ve changed my route to a circular one. One day though...

It’s Friday and the sun is shining so DS and I are playing hooky from homeschool. We’ve been for a longish bike ride, into the shops for essential cake and chocolate (we got some bread as well to camouflage our naughtiness) and now I’m about to do a zoom pilate class while DS plays in his sandpit. Our internet is intermittently buggered so as I’m going to be using a hotspot I may even take my laptop and mat outside. We’ll do something more traditionally educational later on today.

forgetthehousework · 26/02/2021 11:47

@HelenaJustina, I rather suspect there's a queue to be Harriet Smile.

Have you read the Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes books by Laurie R King?
Given your proposed reading list I think you might like them. ( Yes, I was very dubious too, but I'm really glad I tried them as I think they are excellent).

MissConductUS · 26/02/2021 13:51

Have you read the Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes books by Laurie R King?

I've read several of those books and they are excellent. I'm a huge Sherlock Holmes fan and she's done an excellent job with the story lines. A Letter of Mary was probably my favorite, as I'm also interested in the historicity of Mary Magdalen.

My local post office received my new Lands End towels yesterday, so I'm really hoping they'll be there when I get home from work tonight.

I have a four hour Zoom meeting this afternoon, from noon to 4:00. Just shoot me now.

I have only read the first of the Mary Russell books. Need to get my hands on some more!

PCRB · 26/02/2021 14:47

Hallway just been painted so I am literally watching paint dry...

sueelleker · 26/02/2021 14:55

Have done my 70's baking; gingerbread, welsh griddle cakes, and chocolate chip butterscotch brownies. Incidentally, for anyone using black treacle or golden syrup, I highly recommend the squeezy bottles from M&S. It's much easier to get out than using a tin and a tablespoon.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 26/02/2021 16:24

Now you have my adding to my book list, too.

I have Lands End foldable rain jackets still going strong after more than 15 years. But these are the only things I ever bought from them.

Golden syrup is made from cane sugar, isn't it? So can be substituted by Stroop made from sugar beets?
(Pumpernickel + Reibekuchen + Stroop is really really fine to eat! Smile)

Spudlet · 26/02/2021 17:12

Well, I am SHATTERED. I’d never done Pilates before (well, one taster class at uni but really that doesn’t count) and the teacher decided to do an intermediate class, which I’d imagine is sort of how death feels? Did get a break halfway through when DS took it upon himself to strip naked and streak around the garden 🙈 Then this afternoon I took Spuddog and DS for a walk and DS decided to take his bike - he’s getting good but he doesn’t have the confidence to pedal unless you’re right there with a hand resting on his shoulder so I had to trot along beside him while also preventing Spuddog from flinging himself beneath the wheels 🙄 In my welly boots, which are not the optimal running footwear. My sore foot is not going to like me for this 🤕

I’m going to lie on the sofa now - DH is cooking dinner this evening. I am DONE with moving and things. CBeebies is doing the parenting and as long as DS keeps his pants on, I shall count it to be a stunning success.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 26/02/2021 17:18

@Spudlet They tell me pilates works wonders for everything. Smile

I tried it but I felt nauseous they way I was supposed to hold my head and it didn't get better. So iI stopped and wonders did not happen for me.

Champagneforeveryone · 26/02/2021 17:41

Oh dear prok Sad
I have a chiropractor appointment next week when I will be getting "some exercises" with a view to getting properly mobile again. I suspect Pilates may figure somewhere along the path of my future.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 26/02/2021 18:01

@Champagneforeveryone - Chiroprator sounds great, if painful - at least in the beginning.
I have to find a physiotherapist who also does lympgdrainage and is willing to come to my home - at least in the beginning.

MissConductUS · 26/02/2021 18:21

We are taking a brief break from my four hour Zoom meeting. It's just as soul destroying as I anticipated.

My echocardiogram yesterday was normal. I did joke with the cardiologist that my heart was so shriveled and small that he might have trouble locating it. Smile

I left work 2.5hrs late after a mental week. Home now, DC fed and 3/4 need a shower, I’ve given up gin for Lent but I am going to have a glass of wine tonight!

With that many recommendations for the Mary Russell books I’ll definitely have look, thanks all!

EggyPegg · 26/02/2021 20:23

I have only ever done one Pilates class. I was underwhelmed.
I want to make chiropractor appointment. There's something very satisfying about having your back cracked and manipulated.

Re Peppa Pig; Ben and Holly is far superior. DH and I both enjoyed that immensely.

It felt like spring today. I enjoyed being out in the Year 1 garden without a coat on.

I am top of my league leaderboard on Duolingo.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 26/02/2021 20:46

@EggyPegg - Well done!
I just lingoted my way out of the relegation zone of my league, by dealing with dead cows among other things.

soddingkitten · 26/02/2021 20:59

Evening! I am reporting in from under our usual pile of blankets. DS2 snagged the most favoured blanket so has Sodding warming his lap. DH came to hang out in my home office after work this evening. We both cracked open a beer while waiting for our takeaway to arrive and got chatting. It was almost like being at the pub. Almost.

soddingkitten · 26/02/2021 21:16

I have just found our bedroom windows still open from this morning. 😮 DH usually shuts them mid morning. With no heating the room temperature was baltic.

MissConductUS · 26/02/2021 21:32

Welcome, @PCRB, and thanks for sharing your soothing home decorating news. My apologies for not welcoming you earlier, it has been one of those days.

I am now heading home, hopefully finding my package from Lands End.

The towels have arrived. I ran them through a quick wash and dry in the tumble dryer and hung them up. The first picture is of the old, retiring towels and the second is the new ones in their place.

I'm quite pleased with the color.

Do love new towels Miss, and those are a nice colour - pretty but not too girlie

MissConductUS · 27/02/2021 01:03

Thanks sunbird, they're really soft and lush feeling too. I can't wait to try them out in the morning. The old ones were getting threadbare.

It's good to treat yourself once in a while. 😊
