Duckboots! More than 35 years ago I went to the States for the summer to work on a summer camp, and they were all the rage. I desperately wanted some, but couldn't arrange to visit the shop before I had to fly home. Internet buying wasn't a thing then. I would still like some :-)

Had my first Covid jab y/day (Pfizer) and have felt fine. Day off tomorrow to deal with some family business. About to take a nice lamb shoulder out of the oven and feast naughtily on it.

soddingkitten · 24/02/2021 18:22

When my National Insurance (NI) card arrived just before my 16th birthday, my Mum said she’d put it somewhere safe until I needed it. Opening that letter was the first and last time I saw my NI card. It was never seen again.

Today’s news of an imminent warm spell has lifted our spirits. Smile

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/02/2021 18:42

We carried 3 x 40 l of potting soil up the stairs.
This should last us until repotting becomes necessary.

EggyPegg · 24/02/2021 19:12

I haven't seen my NI card for many years, but I know the number off by heart anyway.

Excellent news on both the flock of hi-vis men and the less painful hip.

I do however think that there needs to be a better collective noun for a group of hi-vis men.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/02/2021 19:18

a vizibility?

forgetthehousework · 24/02/2021 19:37

Apparently I am weird because a) I don't regard boiled potatoes as too awful to even contemplate eating, and b) I manage to sleep with my DH in a double bed every night, when apparently everyone knows they are just for children and adults MUST have a super king or, even better, separate rooms.
Thanks MN!

I am so grateful for this thread, it makes me happy.

We've both had our first covid vaccinations today, at different venues and through different sources.
I may eat chocolate this evening.

Sunbird24 · 24/02/2021 19:39

I have sacrificed to the little green owl this evening. Apparently the waiter is eating my croissant.

Spuds, LL Bean has a global sales site that will ship to the UK. You can pay in GBP as well:

global.llbean.com/Default-Start?nav=C2tE-510628

And Lands End has boots on their UK site:

www.landsend.co.uk/Womens_Flannel_Lined_Duck_Boot/pp/P_40868.html?cgid=11504&dwvar_P__40868_color=UQQ

@forgetthehousework, I'm even more weird because I have a queen bed, which is apparently an unknown bed size in the UK.

I think a group of high viz men should be a vizgang or vizgaggle.

I absolutely love boiled potatoes, @forgetthehousework, especially with butter. I admit I am an unrepresentative sample and possibly a complete weirdo though.

Nydj · 24/02/2021 21:04

@Champagneforeveryone, if your DH is employed (as opposed to self employed) his NI no would be on his payslip - I always look for my NI no on my payslips.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/02/2021 21:27

@mathanxiety A boiled potatoe with homemade chilisauce or with rosmary butter is lovely. But then I love potatoes in nearly all formes apart from Püree which I think is mash (?).

English has lots of lovely words for groups of beings.

HelenaJustina · 25/02/2021 06:18

@Prokupatuscrakedatus collective nouns are really fun but can be a dangerous wormhole to fall down!

DH and I have a King Size bed but happily shared a mere double for many years muses that since the new bed no DC have been added to our family!

HelenaJustina · 25/02/2021 06:26

A quick google suggests:
A concern of Health and Safety consultants
Other options include an assessment of... a risk of...
A neon Of high vis or a flamboyance Is also suggested.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/02/2021 06:42

@HelenaJustina
A neon would be very fitting: The neon I watch is of the orange variety but the more common one is bright yellow with silver stripes.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 25/02/2021 07:58

Given a temp. of 17.1 outside the kitchen window yesterday, and sun! - I suddenly got the urge to give the kitchen a bit of a blitz.

(This aberration is unlikely to recur any time soon.)

Also for the first time in ages, went for a walk without winter coat or gloves. Jacket wasn’t even done up and I still felt too hot by the time I got home.

Lots of daffodils out. 😊

Squirrel26 · 25/02/2021 15:18

There’s currently a high vis man in the corridor up a ladder so close to the door that he has a pal with him to direct door-traffic. He has his head in the ceiling.

I read a thing somewhere that said that the most visible of the high vis colours is actually orange. Or possibly pink. Definitely not yellow.

MissConductUS · 25/02/2021 18:07

They make life jackets orange because it's the easiest color to spot from a distance.

I have an appointment with a cardiologist to get an echocardiogram done at the suggestion of my very through GP. I have to leave shortly, since he's almost an hours drive away.

In other news, Peppa Pig is moving to Florida.

Peppa Pig theme park coming to Legoland Florida Resort in 2022

I wish I could take credit for this, but I cannot. Smile

That pig is on German netflix - why oh why?

I had to take a different route home from work, because of a gas leak that stopped three public transport lines and 4 roads. Blue lights and several neons of high viz men everywhere.

Squirrel26 · 25/02/2021 19:16

I have a small confession which is that I quite like Pepa Pig, and I don’t have any children.

(I remember one particularly triumphant baby sitting occasion where my Goddaughter watched two episodes of Pepa simultaneously, one on the TV and one on my iPad.)

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/02/2021 19:27

@Squirrel26 - That is ..... interesting!

Though I do admit that I still enjoy Petterson and Findus and kept the DVDs and all the books from DC.

forgetthehousework · 25/02/2021 19:53

There was a single man in a high vis jacket across the road this morning; what would be the singular of neon? A neo?

I've felt a bit 'off' today, which I'm putting down to the covid jab yesterday, but DH is OK although we are both wincing slightly whenever we move the injected arm, but I'm not complaining just grateful to have had them.

I'm rereading the Lord Peter Wimsey stories and I can't find one of them in my collection. Do I replace it or do I look through the boxes of books in the loft to see if I put it up there by mistake? Actually this is a no-brainer ... eBay, here I come.
Joined our Lent group teams meeting this afternoon but have done nothing else all day.

Champagneforeveryone · 25/02/2021 21:29

DH and I started our epic expedition today (we are going, over a period of time, to walk the South West Coat Path)

We only did 6 miles but it was a little undulating and probably twice the distance I've walked since injuring my back last summer. So far I'm ok, though my back is sore it's not painful. I'm thrilled and can only hope the morning is full of similar glad tidings Wink

Sunbird24 · 26/02/2021 05:29

I have a cold sore coming up right in the middle of my bottom lip. It’s going to be huge.

mathanxiety · 26/02/2021 05:48

Peppa Pig is one of the sharpest toys I have ever stood upon.

I think a single high-vis individual should be a 'vision'.

I've been compiling a Spotify list of my favourite songs of the 80s. I'm up to 157 now.

HelenaJustina · 26/02/2021 06:32

@Champagneforeveryone that sounds a great project. Did you pre-position cars or was it a circular route? Friends did the Ridgeway in sections last summer and the sense of achievement was palpable!

@forgetthehousework I love Peter so much, in another life I am Harriet. I’m rereading the Falco series at the moment and am then going to redo all of Cadfael (all three series have common themes and are similarly well written!)
