I have no skin left inside my nose. ***Warning from MNHQ: Contains slightly graphic photo***

Must be the cold weather and central heating.

The skin in the inside of my nostrils has completely peeled off. It's constantly bloody or scabby. When I look up it all I can see is bright red in one nostril (fresh blood) and bright pink sensitive inflamed wet lower skin layers in the other.

It's very uncomfortable Sad worried it will get infected

Has anyone had this before/any tips to help? Feel like I need Naseptin but not sure if it's worth bothering the GP for this? How will it heal when every time I blow my nose/sneeze/shower/wash my face the sores all open up?!

Can post a pic if anyone is interested Wink

You might need Bacoptrin (sp?). Also the best thing I was recommended was by a Paramedic is Neil Med spray, helps to keep sinuses moist. He said what is the most unhygienic part of the ambulance, I said don't know, the chair? He said no, studies have found the microphone! So it was a common issue for him.

Title needs a pic warning!

NotJackieWeaver · 14/02/2021 18:28

Fuck!

NotJackieWeaver · 14/02/2021 18:29

Are you sure that’s a nose? It looks like the gates of hell.

TheBitterBoy · 14/02/2021 18:31

Have you considered it might be cold sores? I only get them inside my nose, they seem to breed in there once I've got one, they are very sore and often bleed at this time of year. Not much that you can do topically inside the nose but I've been recommended acyclovir tablets.

LizBennet · 14/02/2021 18:31

Was not expecting the close-up up nostril shot 😑

🤣😂🤣

I get this - there's a weak bit that splits open every time I get a cold and it's really difficult to get it to heal. I use sudocrem on a cotton bud, thinly during the day and more thickly during the night. This helps keep it moist and flexible and stops it itching/irritating so much so I leave it along and it does seem to help it heal.

bookshop1 · 14/02/2021 18:37

It FEELS like the gates of hell

I'm guessing it doesn't look good then!!

@thebitterboy I have had cold sores in the past, so it could be I guess. The other nostril isn't so bad. I just assumed it would be to do with the extreme temperatures/dryness- cold dry air outside and warm dry heating inside.

I don't pick my nose or anything! I'm sure twice weekly covid tests probably hasnt helped.

PS if it is a cold sore, now is the tjme to get to the GP as they are often willing to give oral acyclovir for nose lesions whereas they won't for mouth blisters.

CaffineismyBFF · 14/02/2021 18:39

I had an op on my nose and it was red raw on the inside, doctors said to use nasal rinse 3 times a day minimum to make sure it was clean and less chance of being infected. Think it was called NeilMed. Try that and maybe speak to your doc to see that the underlying issue is.

bookshop1 · 14/02/2021 18:41

@ElizabethinherGermanGarden how can I know for sure that it is a cold sore?

Have requested pic warning to be added to title...

I’d give blisteez a try.

TheBitterBoy · 14/02/2021 18:41

It probably is partly to do with the dry cold air, this always seems to trigger a cold sore for me, along with my hormonal cycle. It's best not to put sudocrem, zovirax cream or anything similar inside your nose as they can be aspirated into your lungs. Not ideal. I think a gp consultation is needed really as it looks so bad.

MamaTigre · 14/02/2021 18:42

Maybe a staph flare up? when I’m run down sometimes get a weepy scab from blowing nose that doesn’t heal. Only thing that clears it is Bactroban (needs GP prescription I think), it works super fast, can feel the funk drying up immediately Grin

gamerchick · 14/02/2021 18:43

I really would say go and speak to your GP OP. It's time.

Boardeduplife · 14/02/2021 18:45

I don’t want to worry you but this was the first symptom that I had, followed by a scratchy throat, that caused me to have a Covid test. I had no temp, no cough.

My test was positive and I was really unwell for about four weeks. The inside, septum side of my nostrils were absolutely raw.

They are actually the same again today and my throat is scratchy again. I’m seeing how I develop over the next 24 hours and I’ll decide what to do. I’ll stay indoors. Honestly if I were you I’d get tested.

missrm · 14/02/2021 18:45

I got a nasal cream from the Dr and he told me to take antihistamines too! The skin was off mine too, really irritated!

IloveFebruary · 14/02/2021 18:50

OP has said they have twice weekly testing. That would be my guess for the cause. I’d call GP for advice about treatment because I can’t see how it will heal when it’s been jabbed twice a week.

bookshop1 · 14/02/2021 18:50

@boardeduplife Crap, I had a scratchy throat on Thursday night when all this started. My lateral flow test was negative on Friday. Will do another one. Thanks

This is why I spend my spare time reading MN. For comments like this Grin
twolittleboysonetiredmum · 14/02/2021 19:01

I have this too! I’ve been sticking sudocrem up there but perhaps I shouldn’t be. It’s so sore
I can’t really tell from this thread - what is an over the counter remedy to try? I’m also testing twice a week so isn’t covid.
