expressions that (irrationally) irritate you

What expressions really irritate you?

My pet hate is 'gently' - somebody gently pointed something out, gently told them.

I know it's irrationally, don't gently tell me anything just tell me! I'm a grown up, I can take it Grin

YANBU about the gently. It's even odder in type when a poster writes something like... "Insert advice or suggestion" Grin

It irrationally irritates me when someone finds something in common with someone else and says, "Are you me?"

I think I'd have to reply, "Errr no because if I was, I wouldn't be asking such a stupid friggin question" Grin

Bandino · 12/02/2021 13:59

I hate the expression "I might add!". It's used a lot on here. And, I might add, I am not one to be irrational.

boredwiththeoldname · 12/02/2021 14:03

At the moment, any sentence containing the word 'peloton' Grin

Fourcolourpens · 12/02/2021 14:05

People describing their kids exam results as ‘stellar’

Describing school years as ‘cohorts’

brunetteonthebus · 12/02/2021 14:07

"This one tho" (it's always 'tho' never 'though', just to add to my annoyance.)

This one though what?!

Usually accompanied by multiple loveheart emojis and #blessed #makingmemories. Blergh!!!!

JudgeRindersMinder · 12/02/2021 14:07

I bring this out every time one of these threads pops up

“We’re pregnant” what? Both of you? Your male partner too?

superoz · 12/02/2021 14:10

'Living my best life'

What does that actually mean? You had other not so good lives?
It just makes me cringe.

diavlo · 12/02/2021 14:12

I hate it when people say “ she/he turned round and said to me”

Whenwillow · 12/02/2021 14:13

Someone who 'turned around and said' whatever. I had an acquaintance who used this annoying saying all the frickin' time!
Why does anyone need to 'turn around' and say anything?
See also: 'We're pregnant'.

Whenwillow · 12/02/2021 14:14

Cross posted @diavlo Grin

I have to ask...why?

In real life;

"And so it begins"....it makes any venture sound like an Everest attempt whereas in reality its usually just a load of women minesweeping in Weatherspoons (pre-covid).

On MN;

Any description like "I snorted", "I squealed", "im crying" in relation to something vaguely funny. Its never, ever THAT funny and id be willing to bet that those posters didnt snort, squeal or cry. I feel a bit irritated just typing it!

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 12/02/2021 14:21

‘But that’s just me’ usually said with a smug little head tilt, in a sparkly voice and in response to something that makes the speaker believe they are now superior.

Makes me punchy.

LuvMyBoyz · 12/02/2021 14:26

‘I’ll grab something’ in respect to food...makes me want to grab their throat.

Referring to DC as princes and princesses. Aargh!

Mycatismadeofstringcheese · 12/02/2021 14:30

Gently, see also: kindly.

My old boss used to say things like “Mycat has kindly typed up the meeting minutes”.

I didn’t do it kindly. I did it because it’s my job.

Thankfully I've not heard that one or I'd be enraged. 'My little man' or worse, 'my likkle man' really annoys me.

I hate when people on here start a very snotty sentence by saying.

You do know...

It's just an absolutely arsey way of saying 'clearly you're thick as pigshit and have no idea'.

randomer · 12/02/2021 14:36

caught on as in pregnant.

luckiestgirl · 12/02/2021 14:41

“A bite to eat” annoys the hell out of me. And ‘pics’ and ‘vids’. And ‘convos’, any unnecessary shortening of words like that.

Cruncheyleaves · 12/02/2021 15:01

"Watch this space" I hate it, no idea why. I even hated just writing it then.

Actually maybe it's because it's an instructing based on the assumption that I'm interested in something 🤔

Claricethecat45 · 12/02/2021 15:01

Take the knee

Taking the knee

Refuses to take the knee

Kneed I go on?

LadyLindaT · 12/02/2021 15:04

I have mental health

nicslackey · 12/02/2021 15:08

Back in the day. Hate it. Why can't we just keep saying things like, when I was young, in the 70's etc. That refers to a period of time. Back in the day means nothing. Did I mention I hate it?

mama4321 · 12/02/2021 15:11

Am I the only one.........

notsureofname · 12/02/2021 15:11

Hate "Love you to the Moon and back".
