expressions that (irrationally) irritate you

What expressions really irritate you?

My pet hate is 'gently' - somebody gently pointed something out, gently told them.

I know it's irrationally, don't gently tell me anything just tell me! I'm a grown up, I can take it Grin

The bloody 'reaching/reached out.' There is nothing wrong at all with saying contacted, asked for help etc. Put your damn arm and grasping hand away.

Lynora · 12/02/2021 15:21

Sourced , no you didn't source anything, you ordered it from Amazon.
Super ,as in I was super excited etc, sounds so bloody twee.
Foodie, pretentious bollocks.

Thymeout · 12/02/2021 15:25

'Sweet' and 'adorable' used to describe the outfits worn by the dcs of Royal family or Celebrities.

Teddy1970 · 12/02/2021 15:26

Another one for "and so it begins" usually when the elf comes out for Christmas, drives me bonkers!

Lynora · 12/02/2021 15:27

'Spat my tea out, woke the baby/husband/dog up laughing'

Toomuchtooyoung01 · 12/02/2021 15:27

"cool beans" is a ridiculous saying
also "to be fair"

Walkingthedog46 · 12/02/2021 15:43

Personal friend..... ??
Can someone tell me the difference between a friend and a personal friend? Are there different degrees of 'friendship'? To me, someone I am close to is a friend, otherwise they are an acquaintance.

rockinaftermidnite · 12/02/2021 15:46

Hashtags - they make me unreasonably annoyed #mybestlife, etc.Angry

Igotmylipstickon · 12/02/2021 15:53

"She fell pregnant" - sounds like a shameful way to get pregnant
"Ah bless!" - very condescending

PolarnOPirate · 12/02/2021 15:55

'Chewing my wrists' - what the hell is that! Just saw it in another thread title and it made me recoil Grin

God, I used to work with a team of young American woman and none of them could finish a sentence! Their voices would just break up and trail off in a weird way...just speak up!! The world doesn't want to hear you voice as it is, don't make it easier for them to ignore you!
Toilenstripes · 12/02/2021 15:59

Luddite, to make themselves sound down to Earth. “Oh we don’t buy cheese, just get by with making our own. We’re luddites that way.”

GreenWheat · 12/02/2021 16:02

Jumping on the bus, slinging something in the oven, grabbing a sandwich... Just do these things like normal people, no need to jump, sling or grab!

DaylightSunlight · 12/02/2021 16:11

'Circa'

Can't stand it. Why not just write 'in'.

This was me circa 2010
I attended Uni with her circa 1904

Hmm

'I'm literally ... '
Shaking

LizBennet · 12/02/2021 16:25

End of!

As though the Messiah has spoken, no further discussion is necessary.

Tristatearea · 12/02/2021 16:29

“THE Covid”

It reminds me of “the shits”.

WorryBadger · 12/02/2021 16:31

The phrase, "in any way, shape or form" annoys me. Why do you need to say all of those?

Similarly "at all?" asked by sales people, like, "Have you got a loyalty card at all?" Well, mate I've got half of one, does that count? AT ALL, I ask you.

rawalpindithelabrador · 12/02/2021 16:33

This, too, shall pass.

WorryBadger · 12/02/2021 16:34

"Impact" used as a verb, but not to mean "impact", but to mean "affect".

"How does that impact on your mental health?"

AFFECT! AFFECT! Impact means to compress, pack down, like impacted poo.

Why do these silly things annoy us? I suppose it's easier to be cross about something that doesn't matter a jot, as opposed to thinking about the state of the world at the moment!

WorryBadger · 12/02/2021 16:34

Oh, actually, I like "This too shall pass". Got me through a few really dark times.

barretbonden · 12/02/2021 16:43

Bin/fuck them off, as in to end a relationship. Absolutely horrible expression which in my world is said by people who not so long before saying it, would have considered they had met "my soul mate" and who "loved them to the moon and back".

Bbq1 · 12/02/2021 16:44

Pronouncing Covid as Covvid
When people actually say "Hashtag" before a phrase ie: "Hashtag Family". Especially annoying if the word "Goals" is added.
People who refer to Instagram as Insta
Hate "Get your ducks in a row"
