I don’t think I’ll ever hear of a baby Gary.

I know two adult Gary’s and both are in their 50’s now

Albert has made a comeback 😀

VinylDetective · 12/02/2021 17:45

When will Jane come back?

I’m here! 😉

PattyPan · 12/02/2021 17:47

Jane is a lovely name. I would have it on my list for a girl but it doesn’t go with our surname Sad

I know of a 25 year old Gary but no one younger. Clive, Colin, Barry, Alan etc.

Late to this thread but my grandmother (Victorian) was called Isolene. Never heard it since

I'm amazed to trawl through 23 pages of names and not find mine. It was old fashioned in the 70s and never come back into vogue....although some celebs named their kid it recently. Poor child

Onelovelyone · 12/02/2021 17:54

I can’t imagine anyone using the name Ian, Wayne, Alan or Brian. However, that being said, 10 years ago Mabel wouldn’t have been popular and now it is so perhaps it will do a full circle!

PlsSendWine · 12/02/2021 17:55

My grandparents were Doris, Valentine, Winifred and Stanley.
Stanley is back so bring on the Doris’!! Grin

Bertiebiscuit · 12/02/2021 17:57

Hipsters love rescuing out of date names -I reckon most names will come around again after sufficient time

rvms · 12/02/2021 17:57

Evelyn for a boy. Evelyn Waugh (a guy) wrote Brideshead Revisited. In the UK you can’t name your boy Sasha as it’s considered a girl’s name when actually it’s Russian for Alexander.

Ostagazuzulum · 12/02/2021 17:57

Fanny.
You'd hope it doesn't get revived.

PlsSendWine · 12/02/2021 17:57

@debsam

I can't see my late grandmother's name coming back into fashion ever again - Cissie!
Was this derived from Cecilla?
Kiki06 · 12/02/2021 17:58

Hitler, Boris, Donald - say no more!

PattyPan · 12/02/2021 17:58

Most of these names I think willl come back sooner or later. The only ones I think won't are Adolf and the ones with sexual connotations (Dick, Fanny, Gaylord).

Some of the names already mentioned, I have taught in recent years - Albert, Dennis, Timothy have all been in my classes.

The 1950s/60s/70s names just need more time. I remember when the old fashioned chic names just starting to come into fashion, and I couldn't believe that anyone would want to call their child Arthur. But now most of my classes have one or more children with that type of name - Wilf(red), Albert, Amos, Maude...

And what's awful to us, sound different to a different generation. My daughter always used to moan at her bog standard name and when she was younger, used to say that she loved the name Margaret. She used to ask me why I didn't give her a glamorous name like Margaret? Thankfully she has grown up now. Grin

My nephew isn't quite one yet, his middle name is Gary
