I don’t think I’ll ever hear of a baby Gary.

I know two adult Gary’s and both are in their 50’s now

I know 2 primary age Pearls. Lovely name.
@PuddleglumtheMarshWiggle who do you know called Minerva? My DGM is the only one I’ve met.

-Dulcie
-Muriel

I’m a 1970’s Susan. I’ve not met anyone else younger than 60 called Susan.
There’s a girl on the show Teen Mom with a Dulcie

Both Ian and Iain are still popular in Scotland. There are so many of them that it doesn't have a negative connotation. So I don't think it will die out as it's such a traditional name.

I honestly never thought I’d see Effie make a comeback. I’m pretty sure all Effies are born wearing a scowl and a mauve M&S cardigan....

@VinylDetective

I’ve always hated my first name, to the point of always using my middle name. Apparently it’s right back in fashion now although I’ve yet to meet any little Veras!
I know a 6 year old Vera - she really suits her name, it's lovely.

I used to work with someone who named his sons Albert & Ernest...

They’re both under 10.
He was a bit older than me and most of the other staff and genuinely did not notice the Sesame Street nod.’

@CoffeeAndWinePlease Maybe that’s because Albert and Ernest were real life German princes (as in Prince Albert, married to Queen Victoria and Ernest his brother) long before they appeared on Sesame Street.... probably a more likely reason for choosing the names?

DreamyDreamer333 · 11/02/2021 20:57

I don't know why I just find them dull, uninteresting names.

Pyewhacket · 11/02/2021 21:00

Pearl is really old fashioned , like Queenie or Mildred or Sheila and I’m surprised Harry seems to be popular, reminds me of my Geography teacher or a byword for being rather dim.

petalpower · 11/02/2021 21:01

I’ve taught a Dennis and a Delilah who are now aged between 10 and 17.
My 18 year old daughter is called Emma and always complains it’s a Mum name as so many people of my age group are called it!

FoofOfTheWalkingDead · 11/02/2021 21:04

My grandpa was a Ralph. Haven't heard of any Ralphs lately.

DS has Arthur as a middle name, no one really knows about it and he was named after Ex's grandfather. A cousin has granddaughters called Matilda and Nora, and my own middle name is on here and seems to be coming back. My first name never makes it onto lists.

And don't rule out Myra. Myra Hindley is already dropping out of memory, many younger people have no idea who she is, and Myra is a nice name after all. Just give it another generation and people will consider it.

Adolf is a different kettle of fish altogether. A much bigger scale of evil.

HideTanner · 11/02/2021 21:07

Ralph is pretty fashionable these days. An Arthur type name for people who think Arthur is too popular.

PatMustardsBigTool · 11/02/2021 21:11

@Gatekeeper

Daphne Dawn
Daphne will surely return due to the popularity of Bridgerton.

I know a little girl called Dotty and one called Dolly. I think they are both really sweet names.

My nans were both called Joan so that’s my middle names. I haven’t heard a resurgence of that one yet.

Robin233 · 11/02/2021 21:17

My grandmothers and , great aunt were:
Elsie , Iris and Evelyn. As a child Always though they sounded old fashioned. Now I have a brand new granddaughter- Evelyn. Could
Not be more proud :)

Male grand parents were William and Stanley. Don't think William ever went out of fashion.

I know 2 little Daphnes and a toddler called Bob. Not Bobbie or Robbie. Just Bob.

My mum had a Great Aunt Bertha. Can’t imagine that making a comeback anytime soon.

Beforethetakingoftoastandtea · 11/02/2021 21:22

I have met a toddler brian.
