I can't be bothered to run at the moment, that's partly because of the mud but also having problems with my hips, which I wonder is too much sitting because I'm not really going anywhere.

I also agree that a lot of stress / anxiety / depression is situational rather than faulty thinking. I was referred for CBT a few years ago because I was having heart palpitations and the GP was convinced I was having panic attacks but CBT therapists couldn't work out what to do with me because they just accepted I just had too much to do being a single parent, running a business, caring for both DPs and my DD being bullied and her having mental health issues also from my XP being hopeless. The palpitations were probably menopause-related anyway. But there's no help to deal with real things, in the end some young GP told me I needed to "make more time for yourself" - yeah, right, maybe a bubble bath and a candle will help me deal with the intergenerational trauma that no one else in my family will acknowledge. Thanks, that rant feels better Grin

Tabby your story rings true, & I've been on the receiving end (although some excellent doctors have done their jobs properly & bothered to work out what was actually wrong).

Woman with physical symptoms that also occur with anxiety = "imagining it".
Woman over 45 with physical symptoms that also occur with anxiety and perimenopause = mirena coil or HRT.

Off you go like a good little girl....

@thefallthroughtheair

I sometimes wonder if society is trying to medicalise itself out of a lot of problems rather than looking to change the root cause of those problems. It appears to be easier and cheaper but of course it isn't long term. I remember an article a few years ago about how so many of us have pointless intellectually-degraded jobs which make us feel worthless and it really rang true...all the increased form-filling and tick-boxing that goes on - teachers, lawyers, medics, police officers etc. So many professionals complain about it but it's also relevant to jobs like cashier, where you used to have to actually tap in amounts whereas now you just scan etc etc. And because tech is so much more complex now we understand less generally so for eg computer hardware obviously but also things like electrics where people used to be able to fix stuff but now can't. It's about feeling like life is totally out of control and no one will trust you with anything. Obviously lockdown has made that a lot worse: we can't even be trusted to make our own decisions about who to see or how to shop - really the most minor things. So gradually your sense of autonomy is taken away. Just a thought.
Oh this is my pet hate - things deliberately designed so ordinary folk can't repair.

Everything run by a computer so the only necessary skills left are increasingly tech ones.

And planned obsolescence.

Mercy wishing your mum a speedy recovery.

What is it with not going to sleep here? My grandson was up late the other night, wouldn't sleep; went to go to bed tonight and the tortoise was dancing around her enclosure dragging a bit of courgette with her! Normally she eats her food earlier in the evening then snoozes under her sun lamp digesting it, after digging herself into her bedding. Finally she went to her sleep corner so I could turn off her day light and put on her night time heat mat. I just want to go to bed!
However she is lovely and I love her so I'll let her off. Here's a picture of her eating her dinner.

Hope your mum is OK @Mercy

Aww! I have considered getting a tortoise.
Curlygirl06 · 20/02/2021 21:44

@AcornAutumn you should, they're lovely. Mine is a non hibernating tropical one, an Indian Star, so she needs a heat mat at night. It's like lying on an electric blanket, wish I was a tortoise!

TheOrchidKiller · 20/02/2021 21:45

Beautiful tortoise, what an amazing shell. I like how she's getting right on top of her dinner to eat it.

flower11 · 20/02/2021 22:22

My 8 year old has become like a teenager, she's currently sat watching the voice with us. Thursdays night she went to bed at 10pm and then got up at 9.45 am yesterday! Not sure how she is going to adapt when they get back to school.

flower11 · 20/02/2021 22:26

Completely agree with starfish on the situational shit. I have been on antidepressants in the past but always stopped taking them because felt it was situational and past trauma rather than chemical imbalance. I had some therapy which did help, but unresolved thoughts bubble away and I know I have certain triggers.

Thank you. She'll start to properly develop her shell pattern and her "star" shape shell in a few months.
Curlygirl06 · 20/02/2021 22:36

There you go, various stages of development of the stars. First one looks like a police line up!

That'll be all the rage with the gamers after playing Among Us for months Grin

The trouble is they'll scuttle around doing tasks, sabotaging, murdering and trying to vote each other out of the fire doors!

BogRollBOGOF · 20/02/2021 23:18

The sunrise one has ventured in here and had a rather unproductive attempt at lecturing us and our wayward ways. I don't think many engage and take that one seriously, even over there.

Wasting time on data analysis that would have been better spent on parenting my own children was a major straw for leaving teaching. The annoying thing is it was rarely more illuminating on identifying pupils in need of some targeted focus than your actual gut instinct. Gut instinct is a lot quicker. The hours of dealing with data, seating plans and all that just pushed the actual essential planning and marking into the twighlights of late night and early mornings. I wasn't long out of night feeds then either. Thank goodness the extra academy policies hadn't kicked in while i was regularly up in the night too, as for

BogRollBOGOF · 20/02/2021 23:21

As for about 8m, DS2 was still having night feeds being a bottle refuser who just switched all his feeds to dusk to sunrise because they weren't avaliable in the day.

MercyBooth · 20/02/2021 23:32

What a gorgeous tortoise. Little darling.

SirSamuelVimes · 21/02/2021 00:39

@Curlygirl06 I showed DH your tortoise and now he wants one. He's planning out its life in the garden and the ways it would confuse the dog. Grin

SirSamuelVimes · 21/02/2021 00:52

Oh god he's well into the idea now. Has found the type he wants and decided it will be referred to as a waddle-rock.

MercyBooth · 21/02/2021 02:12

Thanks @Curlygirl06

I feel like a shit parent/general human as well. I’m snappy, tired, generally over everything. Can’t be arsed. Done.

Sorry to hear about your mum @MercyBooth I hope she recovers quickly, that’s so shit Flowers

I got my psych report back: complex PTSD, GAD, ... and a broken coccyx

Yeah no shit!! My husband tried to kill me and then I fell down the stairs... I could have told you that; I don’t need a fancy degree HmmGrin

Curlygirl06 · 21/02/2021 11:52

Catching up.

Sorry to hear about your mum @MercyBooth, hope she feels better soon.

@Curlygirl06 Your tortoise is so pretty. And so little! I did wonder if she was an Indian Star when you posted the pics of her a thread or two back.

I'm on antidepressants at the moment. Sertraline. It's probably situational for me as well but it got to a point last year where I felt like I was struggling to cope so the GP plopped me on them. They've helped up to a point, although I do feel a bit zoned out some of the time. And I can't cry very easily, which sounds like a plus and usually is, but sometimes you just need a good cathartic sob don't you?
