Went back to work last night feeling very tearful after reading all the ‘social distancing and masks for the next year at least’ shit in the papers. Plucked up courage to tell my colleagues that I broke the rules and, to a woman, they all said they have too. They’re just keeping very quiet about it in public as we’ve been threatened so much by our bosses and no one wants to be disciplined. We have all been vaccinated and quite a few of us have had Covid so we’re not denying it exists, we’ve assessed the risk and decided that our mental health and that of our families and friends is more important. These women are all experienced HCPs who’ve been working frontline all through and they’re monumentally fed up with the fear and doom spreading that they’ve been forced into and the damage it’s done to the vulnerable in society.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 13/02/2021 12:18

Exactly @SirSamuelVimes
I just feel so bloody angry

justasking111 · 13/02/2021 12:30

I do wonder at times if some dementoring across all social media don't have a professional agenda.

That's really reassuring to hear. Thanks.

I've wondered that too. But I'm not sure who it benefits or why. But some of it seems too extreme to be a rational opinion.
justasking111 · 13/02/2021 13:26

I was shocked hospital transmission was so high

Well I don't shop at weekend but some folk do. We have a rolling road blocks today on North shore and West shore. . Is your journey essential. It's frightening to be honest.

Just posting on a thread about foreign holidays and the situation in Greece, trying to spread some positivity. Already had one person tell me I'm wrong and posting a guardian link to back up their view. Even though the link is a month old and actually goes on to say what I have said.
But yeah, what do I know about what's happening in Greece. Malakas.

wanderings · 13/02/2021 14:03

@LivinLaVidaLoki Indeed. Covid could be treatable like flu, AS WE HAVE BEEN SAYING. Is this FINALLY the beginning of the government drip feed towards normality, having deliberately spread fear, terror and despair for the last couple of months?

@justasking111 I'm certain there are paid government employees spreading the "right" thing to do on social media. As if spending our money on the "look them in the eyes" posters wasn't enough. Now watch out for them saying "normality soon".

I'm almost surprised Grant Shapps made that remark about not booking holidays: I'm sure they would want people to be spending lots and lots this side of the end of the financial year, to make the economic figures look slightly better than they are going to be.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 13/02/2021 14:06

Also cheered by this....I love a bank holiday pub visit.

I think it is @wanderings

The news has felt very different today. I also think the publishing of the sage hospital stuff is part of it too.

Curlygirl06 · 13/02/2021 14:11

@AcornAutumn

Samuel it was mentioned over there last night as brand new information.

There was also a possible troll on there late last night, evidence remains on a "moaning about rule breakers" thread. Wanted years of lockdown, suggested we all hang out in our gardens (!), get a hobby, take taxis instead of public transport.

Surely taxis are nearly as unsafe as public transport? You don't know who's been in there before you, or how many people they've been with, or what they've been carrying? You can't guarantee the taxis have been cleaned between fares, not that public transport is either, to be fair. And where are people supposed to get the money from? Taxis aren't cheap. Honestly, some people have no idea.
SirSamuelVimes · 13/02/2021 14:14

Not to mention that there will be a massive shortage of taxis, as so many of the drivers have been put of business.

Iheartmysmart · 13/02/2021 14:33

I can’t decide if I’m happy about the good news stories emerging or angry as this is what many of us have been saying for ages and have been called all sorts of names for.

I’ve just been told off in the local shop. Apparently I can’t have the hood of my sweatshirt up and wear a mask at the same time. But I can go in there when wearing my hat, scarf and a mask. Equal amounts of my face are visible either way. I obviously look like a 53 year old renegade.

justasking111 · 13/02/2021 14:35

A mum has posted the police have turned her back, was going to specsavers to pick up her sons glasses, non essential they said. Now she lives up in the hills so is going to have to try and get back into town at some stage. I think the touristy thing is why we are being battered by the police, although yesterdays cruising around the local park by the school is odd.

justasking111 · 13/02/2021 14:43

My local taxi firm is now delivering prescriptions, taking folk to medical appointments now that schools shut and no-one going out for entertainment.

I heard that the government weren't pleased with the Grant Shapps comment. I don't know if there is some truth in that but they could hardly back pedal as it would be reported as: 'in a huge u-turn the government have told granny to get beach body ready and get ready to dance on the bar in shagaluf 2021. Come Autumn we we have a whole new type of clap to worry about for the vaccinated over 80's.'

I for one can't wait for the drip feed of normality though.

MercyBooth · 13/02/2021 14:51

Sad news on my fb today. My friend who ive mentioned before who works as a cleaner in an NHS hospital.................her little cat has passed away. Sad She was a lovely cat. Really fluffy. Like a walking ginger rug. So pretty

Iheartmysmart · 13/02/2021 15:53

Oh I’m sorry to hear that @MercyBooth There’s never a good time to lose a pet but it seems particularly rotten at the moment. I hope your friend is okay Flowers

ISaySteadyOn · 13/02/2021 16:05

@MercyBooth, Flowers for your friend. Her cat sounds like a wonderful one.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 13/02/2021 16:42

For you and your friend @MercyBooth
Thanks

Bollss · 13/02/2021 17:20

Oh your poor friend @MercyBooth losing a pet is awful Flowers

LadyCounterblast · 13/02/2021 17:20

Oh that's sad @MercyBooth, sorry to hear that. Flowers

DrRamsesEmerson · 13/02/2021 17:23

I’m so sorry, @MercyBooth. Rubbish for your friend to lose her pet at any time, but particularly awful now.

I am (cautiously) cheered up by the change of tone today and begin to think that DD may get back to school in three weeks.

CoffeeWithCheese · 13/02/2021 17:34

Kids at grandparents for half term week - I need to get uni work done and mentally I need to heal a bit if I can as well... the number of cars with families in at the services where the kids were being handed over to grandparents for the half term was interesting.

Legit childcare bubble for anyone wanting to berate me - the only other "breaking" of rules we've done was DD1 meeting her best mate in the middle of a bloody field blowing a gale so they could stand and have a dance off!
