Definitely no berating here, @CoffeeWithCheese. Sounds great for your kids.

ISaySteadyOn · 13/02/2021 17:48

No berating from me either. Just happiness that your children have the grandparents they have. Hope all your work goes well.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 13/02/2021 17:48

I had the vaccine yesterday, all very well organised and I was in and out in about 5 minutes. Feeling absolutely shocking today though! The flu jab always gives me a sore arm but I have a sore arm, am exhausted and feeling a bit sick too. Had to have a nap in the middle of the day (I never nap!). Sorry about your friends cat MercyBooth I remember you talking about her (the friend). How on Earth are glasses not deemed essential? Your police force is disgraceful at the moment justasking111.

bakingcupcakes · 13/02/2021 18:13

I was planning to take DS to the pier one day this week - 25mins drive away but in another county. Anyway we're not going now because my friend told me people have being stopped and turned back this week. The problem I have with this is I'm on the edge of 2 counties. I only need to drive 10mins to be in another county. I'd consider that local. It just seems so ridiculous that we could go to a beach over an hour away (in our county) but not the nearest one which we've used in school holidays/ at weekends for years.

@CoffeeWithCheese I think your kids are really lucky to be able to spend the half term with their grandparents. DS's are too terrified to let us in the garden most of the time! Grin

I hope you feel better soon @smallandimperfectlyformed Flowers

smallandimperfectlyformed · 13/02/2021 18:20

Thank you bakingcupcakes I suppose that I have been given a mild version of covid so I just have to let my body build up resistance to it. Bloody glad that I don't have to do any homeschooling this week, feeling dead guilty though as my 2 youngest have just watched TV all day (and despite us having Netflix and Disney Plus they are watching those awful toy videos on YouTube. They have been told I will be watching The Masked Singer though!!

Iheartmysmart · 13/02/2021 18:35

@smallandimperfectlyformed If it helps, my mum had a similar reaction to her jab, it lasted about 48 hours. Dad was a bit miffed that he had to cook for himself because she felt so sick and kept nodding off.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 13/02/2021 18:41

Thank you that does help. None of my friends or family members who have had it have said about feeling this bad so I was surprised! My sister in law bless her said that she has heard the worse it makes you feel the more protected you are (probably bunkum but she said it to be nice and I remember when I was a kid being told the medicine that tasted the worst was the best for you!)

LivinLaVidaLoki · 13/02/2021 18:49

There may be some truth to that @smallandimperfectlyformed
It's a sign that it's provoked a strong immune response. Hope you feel better soon.

bakingcupcakes · 13/02/2021 18:49

@smallandimperfectlyformed Don't worry about the telly. It won't do them any harm for a few days. We have Prime and Netflix but DS chooses to watch toy videos on YouTube most of the time. Or videos of people playing games. Hmm He watches loads of this American father and son who are into skateboarding. They test out toys and things too. What's disturbing is now I find myself watching along with these videos rather than reading/cleaning. I quite like the dad. It makes me wonder what my life has come too. Grin

Bollss · 13/02/2021 19:01

Ds likes watching "Ryan videos"

He does seem to learn stuff though as he's been telling me about tsunamis and non Newtonian liquids!

smallandimperfectlyformed · 13/02/2021 19:02

Thank you for all of your support and well wishes. I am currently in the dressing gown of doom and can't wait until I can get to bed!

LivinLaVidaLoki · 13/02/2021 19:04

Absolutely not covid related but a friend just sent me this and it made me laugh harder than it should, so thought I'd share it....

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 13/02/2021 19:20

@smallandimperfectlyformed hope you feel better soon. Shit as it is, it is a good sign that you feel rough. A strong immune response. The jab is working!

I have tried to stay off social media etc for a bit as realised I was never really present and was attached to my phone. Plus I was winding myself up by going "over there".

But I am v pleased and relieved to read that both Hancock and Boris have come out and said we will need to learn to live with the virus. Plus the numbers continue to look good and there is more good news on the vaccine front. Just need to drag myself through half term... God, I am fucking dreading it. I am even considering geocaching with the eldest on the days I am not working.

Gratefulrunner · 13/02/2021 19:27

Hello so just to update, no issues with travelling to see our bubble in another part of the country, no police popping up to stop us. Actually the roads were freakily quiet, usually at this time of year they’d be full of caravans and cars packed solidly. Service stations like ghost towns. Makes me a bit sad really

Gratefulrunner · 13/02/2021 19:31

But on the other hand lovely to see our elderly relative in our bubble, think seeing our DCs means a lot to them Smile

TheOrchidKiller · 13/02/2021 19:33

Sympathies about the cat, Mercy. I've spent the afternoon trying to disguise a cat worm pill which the little bugger won't swallow. Have backed off, for now...

I don't blame anyone for handing children over to grandparents for half term. If mine were younger they'd be going!

I'm finding it harder to drag myself outside for a walk at the moment but I don't want to be indoors all the time, either. Bumped into a colleague on mat leave when I did go out, & it was a real joy to see her, even if it was only for 2 minutes.

Worldgonecrazy · 13/02/2021 19:33

Great news @Gratefulrunner

AcornAutumn · 13/02/2021 19:59

@justasking111

A mum has posted the police have turned her back, was going to specsavers to pick up her sons glasses, non essential they said. Now she lives up in the hills so is going to have to try and get back into town at some stage. I think the touristy thing is why we are being battered by the police, although yesterdays cruising around the local park by the school is odd.
Is this someone you know?

She should complain. Obtaining medical services is essential.

I was on a Zoom chat a few days ago when someone said in disapproving tones that the local school was over half full - with 'key workers'' children. (I could feel the quotation marks)

I don't know how other people were going to respond, but I jumped in with 'good for them, children need to be in school' and there were murmurs of agreement, even if some of them might have been a bit reluctant.

I hope quite a lot of people agree with my sentiments but don't feel they should say so.

My teenage DD is desperate to get back to sixth form and speaking to her teachers they are desperate to be back in classroom too. One teacher who only makes them have camera on for first 5 minutes, said she has no idea if anyone is still there! The camera goes off because most are in their bedrooms.
We have been baking and dropping treats to my DP’s. I’m not sure if I’m even going to get out of bed next week as half termBlush
Too cold and icy to go for a proper walk, the paths are a death trap.

Temps are supposed to be back in double figures from Monday. Back to the mud!!!

Do you have any cycle paths near you? I found one a couple of weeks ago, and it doesn't seem to have any cyclists on it on the moment. (Plus it's really wide so room for pedestrians and bikes.) Beautiful, beautiful tarmac! No mud. And quite flat too. Which is nice with young kids.
