Guys wearing vests??

DH is 28 and always wears a white sleeveless vest under his top. We had a FaceTime catch up with my sister a few days ago and she commented that she could see it which made DH blush! Is there really anything wrong with guys wearing vests under their clothes? DH has always worn them so I don't think anything of it....

Underneath? No. I cant see the problem at all?
Vests as a stand-alone item of clothing I really do not like.. but that is still just my personal feelings.

You DH had nothing to be embarrassed about?!

AdoraBell · 08/02/2021 13:21

Nothing wrong at all. Other people need to stop judging people’s underwear. If it was a woman would your sister have said “ I can see your bra straps” ?

MegaClutterSlut · 08/02/2021 13:24

My dh wears a vest in the summer BUT only indoors. He will never wear it outside as he thinks people will take the piss Confused so would rather swear is ass off instead 😐

MegaClutterSlut · 08/02/2021 13:24

*sweat

Biscoffaddict · 08/02/2021 13:38

I’d find it a bit off if I’m honest. The only man I’ve ever met who wore a vest was my late Grandad, and I just assumed it was a generational thing.

Biscoffaddict · 08/02/2021 13:38

Odd, not off ffs!

Katie922 · 08/02/2021 13:39

Phew I think he's been getting paranoid... I think it's a smart look even under a white T shirt as the outline of a vest is much better than seeing chest hair or nipples!

Fagey · 08/02/2021 13:40

Not met a man who does this since my grandad.

But was a silly thing for your SIL to mock.

StepOutOfLine · 08/02/2021 13:41

I found it odd when I first moved to Italy 27 years ago, as in the UK it tends to be something only older men wear, but here every man does really. Keeps you warm in winter, keeps the sweat off your shirt in summer.

SimonJT · 08/02/2021 13:42

Most mens shirts are quite thin, so if the material is pale your nipples/chest hair is visible if you don’t wear a vest or t-shirt underneath.

Eckhart · 08/02/2021 13:45

Why is your sister commenting on your husband's underwear?! Unless he shows up in a family zoom meeting sporting nothing but a hot pink thong, it's really nobody's business except his.

sonnysunshine · 08/02/2021 13:47

DH wears vests looks really sexy in them. Always worn them since we met in our twenties.

Katie922 · 08/02/2021 13:50

Don't know where the connotation that they are just for older folks comes from? My younger brother wears them too and he's in his early 20s.

Grin Made me chortle that.
Lexilooo · 08/02/2021 13:55

Your sister is weird. Another adults under garments are none of her business for a start. But men wear vests or under shirts so you can't see nipples and hair through thin shirts as well as for warmth. The vest is more modest, if he wasn't wearing it would she have commented on his nipples? How would she react if he commented on her bra or nipples!?

WaiterTheresAFly · 08/02/2021 13:57

If I were you I'd be looking forward the day your husband gets to comment on how he can see your sisters underwear. What was he supposed to say or think in response?

Presumably he knows he wears vests already without her pointing it out. What's her next discovery? That he he breathes in and out?

My son wears them and hes 7, so definitely not just for older generations? I like my son to be warm in the winter and in the summer he can wear them in the garden when it's too hot?

Your sister is the strange one, and as PP have said - quite rude to comment!

Katie922 · 08/02/2021 14:21

Well this is just it isn't it.. it wouldn't be acceptable for him to comment on seeing her underwear!

I find it a bit odd - my grandfathers both wore vests and would be 115 and 93 if they were still alive.

LittleRa · 08/02/2021 14:30

Unless he’s sitting on the family zoom call like this, there’s no problem Grin
What would your sister think if your DH commented that he could see her bra straps under her top?

80sMum · 08/02/2021 14:35

Absolutely nothing odd at all about wearing a vest under a shirt! They're intended to be worn beneath a shirt, after all.

Those people saying that only old men wear them probably live in highly centrally heated homes and don't have to adapt to the difference in temperature between the seasons. In our house, it's cold in the winter. Average temperature in all rooms except the sitting room (where we have a log burner) varies between 9 and 14 degrees in winter, depending on the outside temperature.

Currently, I am wearing a bra, a vest, a t-shirt, a fleece jumper and a fleece jacket. I'm sitting in my kitchen and feel pleasantly warm. When I settle down in the sitting room in the evening, I'll strip down to the t-shirt, as it's often upwards of 22 degrees in there when the door is closed!

Whyyyyyythough · 08/02/2021 14:38

that would give me the ick

Hoppinggreen · 08/02/2021 14:40

I wouldn’t comment on anyone wearing one but I would find it very very unattractive

mootymoo · 08/02/2021 14:44

I didn't think anyone under 80 wore them to be honest, not since central heating became normal at least! I would find it quite weird myself, dp doesn't neither did my exh
