Poor DH shit himself then went to work

Literally.

DH made spaghetti bolognese for tea this evening using mince we bought from Lidl on Monday. We put in the freezer until today.

It was in date by several days when we bought it so shouldn't have gone off (especially as it was frozen immediately upon returning home) but it did smell a bit different when he was cooking it.

Within a couple of hours of eating it he's developed a bad stomach and had an accident on the way home from taking DSC back to their mums.

He showered and sorted himself out then left to go to work (nights)

He's now texting me saying he thinks he needs to come home as his stomach is very painful and he's on the verge of being sick.

If this was 24 hours later I'd be thinking he has food poisoning, can that take hold so quickly?

He hasn't eaten anything else.

I'm just bracing myself for the children to get the same..

I've NC'd for his sake as we have loved ones on here and he'd be mortified if they knew.

You might have been taking the piss, but getting a test would rule out spreading a potentially lethal disease, why take the risk?? If it's negative then great, but I'd quite like to see an end to this lockdown, people assuming it couldn't possibly be covid and continuing as normal will be dragging this on for longer.

deydododatdodontdeydo · 29/01/2021 08:55

It might be covid, but the posters saying it is more likely to be covid are bonkers.
He ate some dodgy meat and got classic symptoms of food poisoning.
The fact they they can also be symptoms of covid doesn't make it more likely.

@rwalker So was I 😏. Thirst will probably be on the "list" next week.

@BitOfFun

Is boil washing yourself a bit like drinking disinfectant?
Possibly Oh dear

No point slagging off the potential of COVID comments.
We are in the middle of a pandemic ffs.

Hello1290 · 29/01/2021 09:21

I haven't read the full thread but you said the meat smelled funny although it had been stored properly. Loss or difference in smell is a symptom - maybe you have symptoms.

How is he this morning OP?

CorianderBee · 29/01/2021 09:39

He should've called in sick because he's sick.

Gee78 · 29/01/2021 10:37

The meat did it smell off per se, just different to how it usually smells.

My sense of taste and smell are fine.

DH is still in bed this morning so I don't know how he's feeling yet.

@MrsPeytonJones

Maybe the meat was fine and it was your and DH's sense of smell that was wrong? As in your sense of smell/taste has changed - Covid symptom?
Good point.

And change in sense of smell is enough for a test so I'd book again.

Wagsandclaws · 29/01/2021 12:22

DS 11 got campyloblacter from not washing his hands properly when he was playing with our rescue hens.

Cramps severe case of the runs and a high temp prompted us to get a Covid test ( he was sick in the car on the way).

Unfortunately the beginning of food poisoning can mimic the beginning of Covid symptoms so it might be worth ( fibbing a bit ) to get a test sent to your house? Hope he is on the mend soon.

Btw campylobacter is highly contagious so keep as much separate as you can.

Oh, enough. I have a mouth ulcer, is that covid too?

Also, we've been in 'the middle of a pandemic' since last fucking April. 😂

borntohula · 29/01/2021 12:32
@userxx
@rwalker definitely get a test. Tiredness is a symptom, forget the 12 days of non stop work, it's more likely covid then old fashioned tiredness. 🙄

Lol i was taking the piss the list of possible systems is getting to a point now where the only thing missing is thirst and normal breathing .
Not true. Those are on the list because you could be asymptomatic. So, if you feel healthy, GET TESTED.

Gee78 · 29/01/2021 12:59

He's much better today, no further stomach problems. It's probably not food on poisoning after all.

No chance of him being able to get a covid test as he just doesn't have the required symptoms, he wouldn't dream of fibbing to get one.

I'll keep an eye on him and how he feels, any more issues I'll get him to ring GP.

Poor man. Hope he will be better soon Flowers

Ultimatecougar · 29/01/2021 13:31

I don't know why people are laughing because I said it is likely to be Covid. We are in the middle of a pandemic and he obviously works ourside the home, plus has contact with at least one other household through his children.

The meat was in date. And if it were food poisoning he'd probably still be ill today with severe gastric symptoms. V&D are very common symptoms for Covid it's recognised in a lot of countries as a symptom, it's only on our NHS test booking site they haven't updated it with gastric symptoms.
Viral illnesses often exhibit some gastric symptoms even if they aren't primarily gastric viruses. I remember having gastric symptoms when I had glandular fever for example and it seems this isn't uncommon.

Ultimatecougar · 29/01/2021 13:34

Oh and there's no way anyone should be going out to work at the moment if they feel unwell in any way. That's irresponsible.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 29/01/2021 13:41

Do all other illnesses stop existing when we're in a pandemic then?

davidsSchitt · 29/01/2021 13:44

"Do all other illnesses stop existing when we're in a pandemic then?"

Did anyone say they did? No. It's important to stop one in particular spreading around though isn't it?

Frodont · 29/01/2021 13:46

Off meat tastes and smells disgusting.

Ultimatecougar · 29/01/2021 13:48

No other illnesses don't stop existing, but in the middle of a pandemic it's safest to assume you might have Covid when you feel unwell until proven otherwise, not go into work to spread it.

rwalker · 29/01/2021 13:58

@borntohula
Not true. Those are on the list because you could be asymptomatic. So, if you feel healthy, GET TESTED.

EVERYONE could be asymptomatic so are you saying EVERYONE get a test .

So using your logic a new mum BF up half the night and tired in the morning should be tested because she has a system of covid rather than she's had 3 hours sleep .

Noteveryone · 29/01/2021 13:58

I think the boil wash comment was a joke, just suggesting that he should shower and change etc surely

borntohula · 29/01/2021 14:30

@rwalker wow, my sarcasm was really lost on you, wasn't it?
