Poor DH shit himself then went to work

Literally.

DH made spaghetti bolognese for tea this evening using mince we bought from Lidl on Monday. We put in the freezer until today.

It was in date by several days when we bought it so shouldn't have gone off (especially as it was frozen immediately upon returning home) but it did smell a bit different when he was cooking it.

Within a couple of hours of eating it he's developed a bad stomach and had an accident on the way home from taking DSC back to their mums.

He showered and sorted himself out then left to go to work (nights)

He's now texting me saying he thinks he needs to come home as his stomach is very painful and he's on the verge of being sick.

If this was 24 hours later I'd be thinking he has food poisoning, can that take hold so quickly?

He hasn't eaten anything else.

I'm just bracing myself for the children to get the same..

I've NC'd for his sake as we have loved ones on here and he'd be mortified if they knew.

He shouldnt of gone to work.

Could be anything, Even Covid!

LemonSwan · 29/01/2021 01:35

Omg I was saying this this evening. All my food is going out of date!

I had chicken go off after a day - fresh from a brilliant local butchers - never happens. Should of lasted 3 days.
My butternut squash I bought last week from sainsburys which usually lasts months in my cupboard has fully collapsed on one side.
I have tomatoes moulding when I opened the packet from Aldi. Onions off with black mould inside the day I bought them!

What in gods name is happening.

My DP thinks its some kind of brexit port hold up conspiracy

Hope your DP gets better Flowers

I’m currently covid positive. My very first symptoms last Friday were waking abruptly from sleep with severe lower abdo cramping and away up diarrhoea.

That's exactly how it happened for me too except I was sitting on the sofa and one minute I was fine and the next I was doubled over.

I'm glad everyone finds it so amusing Grin

But honestly people have been saying for ages this needs to be listed as one of the first symptoms. Probably the new strains or something, who knows. Plus the OP specifically said in her post it was well in date and went straight in the freezer, it smelled a bit different but she didn't say bad or anything! And off meat has a pretty distinctive smell Hmm otherwise I'd have thought food poisoning too.

Hardly "losing the plot" to mention a COMMON AF symptom of covid that nobody seems to be taking very seriously at all.

Maybe the meat was fine and it was your and DH's sense of smell that was wrong? As in your sense of smell/taste has changed - Covid symptom?

wellthatsunusual · 29/01/2021 04:20

If it was food poisoning would you not have it too? (Assuming you both ate the same dinner).

Nat6999 · 29/01/2021 04:23

Ds had salmonella a couple of weeks ago after a dodgy Chinese from somewhere with a 1 star hygiene rating (I did warn him but he wouldn't listen) He started with explosive runs, then it turned to awful stomach cramps which with the runs lasted 10 days.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 29/01/2021 05:32

Lolling at the covid suggestions. Its ridiculous. Got the shits? Covid. Vomiting? Covid. Skin melting away? Covid. Leg fallen off? Covid.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 29/01/2021 05:33

Also intrigued about boil washing....

OTTYrevolution · 29/01/2021 05:35

ChablisandCrisps · 29/01/2021 05:40

@OTTYrevolution the sistene Chapel woman thread was amazing hahahaha 🤣

Hope your DH feels better soon OP.

Daisypaisy2 · 29/01/2021 05:48

You can have an upset stomach from eating. Did your DH wash his hands? This is probably the cause. If it was just one episode it’s probably not food poisoning.

TibetanTerrier · 29/01/2021 05:58

@YukoandHiro
I laughed at that too @borntohula* - man eats smelly meat and gets classic food positioning symptoms "MUST BE COVID!" People have lost the plot.

Studies are showing that about 18% of Covid patients present with diarrhoea and vomiting as their first symptoms.

Dr Brennan Spiegel on Forbes website:

"When #COVID19 first emerged, it was mainly considered a respiratory virus that didn't affect the gut. Now we know it frequently causes diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, GI distress."

yawnsvillex · 29/01/2021 06:25

This is hilarious.

An eyelash fell out ....... OMG MUST BE COVID

If that's the case why isn't it a symptom to get a test?

ChristmasFluff · 29/01/2021 06:35

It's not a symptom to get a test because it isn't specific enough to covid - i.e. lots of people will have gastric symptoms that aren't down to covid.

It's something else the government needs to sort - the '3 symptoms' dates from when there was only tiny testing capacity.

The most common symptoms of covid are actually headache and fatigue - but you still can't get a covid test unless you have one of those original 3 that were used originally as less likely to be something else.

Just boil wash yourself, all good. 😂
speakout · 29/01/2021 06:36

management aren't very accommodating when it comes to being off sick.

What sort of world do we live in.
It's like the Victorian age.
My OHs employer was the same when our babies were born. Didn't agree with paternity leave.
My OH had one day off work with each baby.
Employees did try to take more time off, but found they were soon "made redundant".

ChristmasFluff · 29/01/2021 06:39

OP, it's really odd that the meat smelled weird, then the bolognaise tasted so rank you had a sandwich instead, but you didn't say anything to DH at the time? It's one of those situations where I would have thought there'd be a conversation then a decision to not risk it.

OverTheRubicon · 29/01/2021 06:43

Going to work after shitting yourself is rank, if it turns out to be gastro (or covid) he'll be making lots of others sick too. Or even if it's just food poisoning but ends up throwing up all over the place, things have to be cleaned.

My sympathy is for his colleagues first.

Makingnumber2 · 29/01/2021 06:43

Food poisoning can kick in very quickly if the food was very out of date/contaminated. I once ate cooked, warm chicken from Asda deli/rotisserie counter and within 2 hours I was puking my guts out. It was horrendous. Hope your DH is better soon!

KatharinaRosalie · 29/01/2021 06:45

If you don't get sick for 24 hours, the cause is almost definitely NOT food poisoning.

Not true at all. Salmonella incubation period is 12-27 hours, campylobacter generally up to 5 days, but up to 10 has been reported.

Cokie3 · 29/01/2021 06:53

I had terrible food poisoning from pasta salad I left in the fridge at work and apparently the power there went out overnight. I was in so much pain, so sick; 2 end sickness at the same time with horrific cramps. The pasta sauce/mayo whatever it was did taste 'off' but I ignored my instincts and ate it anyway. Stupid me. Food poisoning can kick in pretty quickly, though mine took about 10 hours to kick in, I don't know why.

Gross

And not even credible

Frownette · 29/01/2021 06:56

TBH I would have thought the same as DH, food poisoning, and tried to struggle on.

Is he a bit better now?
