O feel sad that the only weird thing in my house is my 5 year old. And all 5 year olds are weird so it doesn't count

The neighbours might consider it weird when I tell DS to go play North of the Wall but it's for his own good!

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 29/01/2021 00:59

@pigletjohn I need one of them I have one of the plasticy crap things that dh has spilled paint on.
I cannot reach top cupboards or even my kitchen window to open.
That Looks so much better

Coveredincake42 · 29/01/2021 01:00

Sorry. The house training rabbits, it's pretty easy. Hay gets everywhere though lol no matter how careful you are

BitOfFun · 29/01/2021 01:06
@BitOfFun youngest child so I always got the floor of we ran out of seats lol.
I do regret it by bedtime but I sit strategically at the point where they like to climb so I can ruin their tiny 13 month old lives by stopping them
@spiderlight

A regular job in our house is sloth redistribution. Our dog is obsessed with cuddly toys and for reasons too ridiculous to repeat, we have got ourselves into a situation where he collects sloths. He has to have a teddy to carry with him on all significant occasions, such as getting up in the morning or going to his food bowl, which means that we accumulate piles of stuffed sloths in the kitchen and on his downstairs bed and periodically have to sneak half a dozen or so back upstairs when he's not looking (if he sees you trying to take them upstairs he will mug you and bring as many as he can carry back down).

Sloth redistribution wins the thread.

A tiny hot water bottle for my cat. I fill it and put it in her bed every night during winter.

The walls and ceilings are also covered in wooden steps and platforms that my partner made for her to clamber on.

grassisjeweled · 29/01/2021 01:28

Omg that tuck shop cupboard Shock

If I speak to my kids in English they'll probably cheekily reply in a different language (that they think I don't quite understand, ha)

We have a bum gun here too

We have A/C and a Harry Potter cupboard, so nerrrrrrr Grin

TheVanguardSix · 29/01/2021 01:35

Waterloo teeth
Skulls
Various Dr. Azoux models
Glass eyeballs
Wax replicas of body parts depicting various states of disease...
Just ALL sorts of weird shit in my house-cum-Wellcome Museum.

I'm married to a collector. It used to fill me with wonder and curiosity. Now I just want to Marie Kondo the hell out of this place! It sparks heebie-jeebies.

pawivy · 29/01/2021 01:42

@theotherfossilsister we do this.

Farmhouse with aga. Bottom left section is for live animals only. The lambs, chicks and yes on one occasion a calf (although he had to be turned and only his feet went in) go in to warm up. We have had to put a small one around it as the dogs try and climb in if wet. Works wonderfully. You just need to make sure you stay about as when they feel better it's chaos.

Marchitectmummy · 29/01/2021 01:54

All of our bedrooms only contain a bed, no other furniture. Even our daughters. I was raised this way. We dress and store clothes in other rooms.

Every day without exception all windows are opened at the same time as each other for an hour. Normally first thing in the morning.

Friends tend to find both of those unusual.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 29/01/2021 02:08

Two toasters, two bread bins, two lots of jam/Nutella/butter on the go at all times. This is because DH is Coeliac and helps prevent cross contamination

PerveenMistry · 29/01/2021 02:17

@WomenAreBornNotWorn

We have a house hen. She is sat on my lap right now in front of the fire. She's beautiful.

I love this.

PerveenMistry · 29/01/2021 02:19

@PandemicAtTheDisco

I have a wildflower garden. None of the neighbours listen when I tell them about the birds and bees. They really object to it (the garden not the environmental lectures).

I don't want help weeding my garden, I don't want weed killer sprayed over it. It was fantastic a few years ago and several environmentalists visited to examine the species diversity.

Thank you on behalf of the Earth.

Same here; i garden for wildlife, not my neighbors.

barbedwired · 29/01/2021 03:12

Our house is built into the side of a hill and we live mainly on the upper floor which is level with the back garden.

We consequently have an undercroft

Pyewhacket · 29/01/2021 03:35

We have a fully functioning Spitfire engine ( as in the aeroplane ) in our garage. Nobody in our house thinks that’s unusual. We also have a double decker bus ( not at home - too big to fit in the garage ) kids loved it when they were nippers. When I say we, it’s my slightly eccentric husband. He also writes lists, notes and text’s me in perfect German. He’s not German.

SimonJT · 29/01/2021 05:04

@ilovepixie

We have an area of floor we don’t walk on as thats where we eat.

Why do you eat on the floor?

I’m Pakistani.
BidensWingWoman · 29/01/2021 05:08

We have two toasters as well, me and DD are Coeliac, OH and DS aren't. Annoying to fit two toasters in the kitchen though.
Natsku · 29/01/2021 06:12

Forgot the most not normal thing in my house, as it seems so normal to us now but in the living room we have a balance beam, a trapeze, a swing, and two sets of wall bars. Really come in useful when stuck at home so much the past year.

Also there's a weird little cupboard high up on the wall, can only reach it by standing on a high step stool. I keep my wine in there.

What's something normal in your home but probably weird in others homes?
sashh · 29/01/2021 06:20

In the summer I have hedge hogs visit me.

Well actually they visit the food bowl. My living room door opens into the garden.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 29/01/2021 06:49

@Natsku I hear you! It’s a pain in the arse

LadyPenelope68 · 29/01/2021 06:54

@Howcanwehelp
Dh and I go up the same time as the children (8:30 to 9), we have a telly in our room and like to chat and relax up there. When we lived in our flat many years ago we lived in the bedroom as it was the only room with heating and never got out of the habit. It's comfy up here!
We do the same!! It’s comfier and cosier in Winter especially.

HeronLanyon · 29/01/2021 07:19

I have a sythe. It is sharp. The blade has a thick leather cover. Smile

HeronLanyon · 29/01/2021 07:21

nellyburt · 29/01/2021 07:42

Some of you are absolutely bonkers. I love it Grin
