I'm like Sheldon, I have a spot on the sofa no one else sits on.

MagnoliatheMagnificent · 28/01/2021 21:52

We have a house rabbit that likes to play the piano!

Doesn't everyone have their own 'spec' in the living-room? Woe and betide if it is violated!
WetJan · 28/01/2021 21:54

@Justmuddlingalong

I have a fitted kitchen with zero drawers.
Our kitchen has no drawers either and I hate it. Our cutlery lives in a metal pot, like a grubby Wetherspoons.
Flamingolingo · 28/01/2021 21:54

We have an enormous cupboard, which is left over from when someone altered the layout of the house at some point in the past. It’s basically the remainder of a bedroom that was converted into a bathroom. It has no windows, but is about 4ft deep by about 15ft long and very very useful.

We have two sitting rooms but one tv. We carry the tv from room to room depending on which sofa we want to sit on.

viques · 28/01/2021 21:54

@Toocold

Freeze bread and milk here, I think lots of people probably do at the moment.
And butter!
JuniLoolaPalooza · 28/01/2021 21:57

@MrsKoala

We keep the kids clothes in the utility room and they get dressed downstairs. We also keep their toothbrushes, toothpaste, hairbrush and flannel in the kitchen. It means on school days they come downstairs at 8.15am and we leave at 8.35.
I sometimes see visitors looking at the objects on the shelves in the living room which includes a hairbrush, serum, nail clippers and hair ties alongside the photos and other random tut. Wish we had a downstairs loo!
EggysMom · 28/01/2021 21:57

@Justthebeerlighttoguide

Egg why's foods locked?
If I've translated that correctly ... Doors are locked because our severely autistic son does not understand not to play where he shouldn't, with things he shouldn't, and has no idea of safety.
StillMedusa · 28/01/2021 21:59

I have 9 guitars in the living room.. 5 on the walls, one in a case and 3 on stands (as played daily) Plus a couple more in the old airing cupboard and a Mandolin. I swear they just breed.

We also have a school bell hanging in the kitchen.. only used to call the family to sunday dinner!

feistyoneyouare · 28/01/2021 22:00

Cat food and a water bowl in our ensuite. It's because one of our cats is elderly and won't eat if our other two (large, young, boisterous) cats are around.

GlowingOrb · 28/01/2021 22:00

We are a family of 3. There are 8 high quality laptops in active use.

I have 1 personal and 1 from work.
DH has 1 personal and 2 from work.
11 Dd has 1 gaming, 1 specifically designed for drawing, and 1 issued by her school.

We had to build a special charging station in the kitchen.

Nitpickpicnic · 28/01/2021 22:02

Does a garden one count?

I have several in-ground worm farms dotted around outdoors. You shove kitchen/vacuum waste in at the top (ground-level) and close the lid. The worms use it as a feeding station, coming in and out the side holes as it suits them. Then they trail their nutrient-rich waste through the garden bed. Very tidy, no smell, no work for me. You can definitely see the difference in the health of nearby soil and plants.

I get inordinately happy thinking about this system- diverting waste from landfill, promoting healthy soils, my effort-free bit for the planet! Visitors find it fairly barmy (the system, and how proud I am of it!). My mum got me a box of super fancy compost worms to add in, for Christmas. 😍

BitOfFun · 28/01/2021 22:03

Oh, I forgot the most unusual thing: a miniature replica of our house that DH made/built as a surprise for my Christmas present. I’m including a Diet Coke for scale Grin

OP - I'm the only one who eats wholemeal bread so keep it in freezer and take slices out when I need them.
Catty1720 · 28/01/2021 22:06

@MadameTuffington

My house bunny sleeps in bed with me - he is extremely clean and fully house trained - everyone I know finds it funny 🐇
Whhhaaattttt! I’m very jealous
Grumpetvoluntary · 28/01/2021 22:07

BitOfFun this is amazing! I love the detail and the little bin bags outside! I want a replica of my house! Your DH is very talented and if he is always this thoughtful you are very lucky!

30sthngLondon · 28/01/2021 22:09

My parents' house/family home but -

My mum composts fruit/veg/things for the veg patch. She wants to compost tea bags but they are mostly made of plastic and will not biodegrade in the compost - so the kitchen counter is always covered in egg boxes full of little drying tea bags so she can cut them open, empty out the tea leaves into the compost and then dispose of the plastic...

Makes me wonder why she doesn't just go for loose leaf!

Elphame · 28/01/2021 22:10

I have a forge in the study

SirGawain · 28/01/2021 22:12

@Ifailed

Having a toilet in a completely separate room, apparently the latest fad is to have it next to your bed so your partner can hear, smell and watch as you take a dump and wipe your arse.
Grim!!!!
YesPleaseMary · 28/01/2021 22:13

There is an air brick in our bedroom and I can hear the ducks on our local pond quacking and honking all night through it.
I have a lot of duck dreams.

SynchroSwimmer · 28/01/2021 22:13

A rather extensive “Nature Table” - a throwback from schooldays.
I hardly notice it, but visitors certainly comment...

Also well in excess of a room full of well ordered clothes - feel that I was forcibly in uniform from starting school at age 5 right through to age 40, now enjoying every day that I get to choose for myself.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/01/2021 22:14

I keep a plastic zip-seal bag on my fridge door with a magnet .
When one of my lovely black cats drops a whisker , it goes in the bag.

They are too beautiful to throw out .

No idea what I'll do with the whiskers though Grin

Boomboombroom · 28/01/2021 22:15

@WomenAreBornNotWorn

We have a house hen. She is sat on my lap right now in front of the fire. She's beautiful.
Whoops read that wrong, definitely did not read it as she was cooking on the fire right now!!! Blush
invisibleoldwoman · 28/01/2021 22:17

I keep all jams, pickles, chutney in the fridge otherwise they go off too quickly and attract vermin. I’m in the uk.

I used to have silk shirts which I kept in the freezer before ironing as they are easier to iron frozen. Our childminder found one and although my daughter explained it was clearly considered very odd.

DH and I have different tastes and dislikes and daughter found it very funny when one of her friends visited and couldn’t get over why we had different breads, spreads, soaps and various other things I have forgotten.

FortunesFave · 28/01/2021 22:17

We've got a stage in the back garden...it's a big garden and DH built it out of old pallets for DD's birthday two years ago because her mate's band played. Then we put the paddling pool on it in summer....now it's just there.

The dogs lie on it. We'll probably have another party so are keeping it for the band!
