As a side with pasta dish.

Just that 🙂

@StepOutOfLine never heard of bruschetta then Hmm

It's an Italian American spin on that. They probably don't scoop up spaghetti bolognaise with their Sainsbury's garlic bread in rural Tuscany but it doesn't make the rest of us uncultured swines for doing so

I can't tell which comments on this thread are jokes anymore Grin

@HeronLanyon lurpak do garlic butter. In a foil wrapped stick, I’ve only seen Sainsburys sell it though. It’s the business. We use it on our (home made) dough for our pizza oven to make home made garlic bread.

That we eat alongside the homemade pizza in a double carb tastic extravaganza (just to destroy any creds we might have had with all the home made braggery going on).

None of you are true Mumsnet cooks. In MY house we have a garlic baguette between four of us, the cats get the garlic bread offal, then we use the leftovers to have cold garlic bread cuts for Monday dinner, garlic bread pie for Tuesday dinner, garlic bread sandwiches for the week's packed lunches and I make garlic bread stock for the freezer, too. Wink

2 people here.

And I sell sourdough for a living these days, have occasionally churned my own butter. But flip me, shop bought garlic bread is addictively delicious.

starfishmummy · 27/01/2021 11:17

The size we buy, two people. But we have a smaller serving of pasta when we have it - its just to add a bit of a contrasting texture and to mop up sauce.

Flippy87 · 27/01/2021 11:19

2 of us, half each (and I could still have more Blush)

ConquestEmpireHungerPlague · 27/01/2021 11:50

I am Irish though, most of the meals I was reared on included two types of spud and a slice of buttered white bread to clean the plate with

Is that a typo for 'clean the palate' @PLAYJAJADINGDONG?

HeronLanyon · 27/01/2021 11:56

direction that’s right it was Lurpak great amount of garlic and perfect saltiness.

I don’t really eat garlic bread (maybe once every two years) but in a different form I do eat pizza ex dough balls - a packet which I think maybe is meant for two. Sod that. I also make extra garlic butter for them as what’s provided is not enough. Not nearly enough !

EuroTrashed · 27/01/2021 12:04

one.
(to throw it in the bin, uncooked, and serve up more pasta)

SleepingStandingUp · 27/01/2021 12:54

Is that a typo for 'clean the palate' @PLAYJAJADINGDONG? Why would you use bread to clean the palate when it could mop up gravy and clean the plate?

How does someone get themselves a deletion on a thread about garlic bread? 🤣
SleepingStandingUp · 27/01/2021 13:06

Oh god I missed anything inflammatory.

Maybe they're from the garlic protection league?

wishihadrubyslippers · 27/01/2021 13:17

I do homemade garlic bread with a real baguette which gives us anything between 20 and 24 slices between two adults and two teen boys with bottomless stomachs. Sometimes one and a half if I've got too much garlic butter left over.
We eat it with vegetarian chili or things like aubergine/tomato/cheese bakes, saucy dishes with no carbs. The bread is the carb.

SusannahSophia · 27/01/2021 13:32

But carbs are delicious! Lasagne, chips and garlic bread! Mmm.

RatherLostPenguins · 27/01/2021 13:58
@HaveANiceFuckingDay a pie sandwich 😂

That reminds me, I don't know if it's just a Scottish thing... but macaroni pies. God they were amazing from the doorway of the all night bakery after a night out.
I love a macaroni pie. Even better in a roll. Triple carbs. Grin

@HeronLanyon

I’ve realised (coming back to the ‘Slice lengthways’ issue) I do this not only to allow better butter/crust ratio (more butter possible and can kind of ‘pool’) but also because this reduces the ‘ends’ problem almost entirely. I too think I have found bought garlic bread ‘tinny’ tasting. Despite not eating it with pasta ever I am perfectly happy to eat a whole baguette with a salad or just on its own. Why on Earth not ? I’d maybe struggle to eat a long and tall (over risen) baguette but a flatter slightly smaller one sliced lengthways - no problem.

Btw discovered ready made sticks of garlic butter a while ago - hasn’t been stocked for ages. Wasn’t bad at all.

Glad it's not just me!

Garlic butter takes about 20 seconds to make, because I have frozen, chopped garlic in, place on butter, put in microwave, done.

I like garlic bread made like that, no metallic aftertaste.

Haha
Tessabelle74 · 27/01/2021 17:28

I buy 2 between 6 of us but mainly because I'm a hoe for garlic bread and I'd eat them both myself if given the chance 🤣
