As a side with pasta dish.

Just that 🙂

Forget the pasta I'll just have the garlic bread!

Lovelydiscusfish · 27/01/2021 07:42

2 of us. We sometimes even have it with curry.

Really. Nobody else thinks eating a WHOLE garlic bread is being greedy?

What about a whole loaf of bread? Surely this falls into the greedy camp.

But a garlic bread is nothing like a whole loaf of bread, it's a baguette - like if you go to a sandwich shop at lunch and order a panini or baguette that is what you get as a portion for a single person with filings added!

Ah that makes more sense.

In our house a garlic bread is loaf sized. Apologies for the offense caused.

I had visions of somenody scoffing a lasagne with a full garlic bread (usually >10 thick slices).

Ginfordinner · 27/01/2021 08:19

I really like garlic bread, but if I ate a whole one I wouldn't have room for anything else, and would feel rather icky afterwards.

This isn't competitive undereating. Since I have got older my metabolism has slowed right down and I can't eat as much as I used to. Just as well really, as I would be the size of a house.

HeadNorth · 27/01/2021 08:24

With pasta, a standard supermarket garlic bread will serve 4 of us - 2 slices each. Fortunately DH likes the knobby ends Smile

Gah81 · 27/01/2021 08:30

Garlic bread is a brilliant replacement for when you would have normal crusty or toasted bread. We have it with bbq, with a plate of tomatoes, artichoke hearts, mortadella etc.

BlackDogBlues · 27/01/2021 08:36

@Robbybobtail

Oh sorry, just saw you said with pasta - I wouldn’t have bread and pasta!
What do you eat garlic bread with then ?

2/3 of one between dh and me. Put the rest in the fridge for reheating next day...

I can happily eat pasta without garlic bread....dh looks a little lost and forlorn if there’s no garlic bread, sometimes he whimpers. Apparently pasta with no garlic bread is Wrong,

Newpuppymummy · 27/01/2021 08:38
  1. Sometimes 4 if the toddler has one piece
BlackDogBlues · 27/01/2021 08:39

@EerieSilence

We never had garlic bread with pasta. The pasta you make is to be savoured on its own, not be drowned by the garlic bread. You're either destroying your palate or use some ready-made awful pasta sauces and then you could just eat the garlic bread on its own. We like to use sourdough bread which we toast, then scrub a garlic clove over the toasted surface and spread some good salted butter on it. Delicious on its own, with some winter salad.
Hmm

@Bogiesaremyonlyfriend

I didnt realise garlic bread was still a thing. Havent had it in years!
This is the oddest post on here Grin

What on earth do you mean, you didn't know garlic bread is still a thing? I haven't eaten fish fingers since about 1982, but I'm in no doubt that they exist!

BarbaraofSeville · 27/01/2021 09:02

I know. I see a lot of it on here. People claiming to not realise that common products X, Y or Z still exist.

I've never bought nappies or Slimfast, but I know that both are still very much 'a thing'.

inappropriateraspberry · 27/01/2021 09:08

2 adults, a 6 and 3 year old. Although I think we will soon be cooking 2! They don't really go that far.

chesterdrawsneedsgonetoday · 27/01/2021 09:13

@HaveANiceFuckingDay a pie sandwich 😂

That reminds me, I don't know if it's just a Scottish thing... but macaroni pies. God they were amazing from the doorway of the all night bakery after a night out.

Right?!

Hilariously transparent. Grin

ApplesinmyPocket · 27/01/2021 09:30

Everyone in this house hates garlic so we never have garlic break obvs, but I would think it would go nicely with a casserole perhaps, to mop up juices and be a crunchy contrast, or with a BBQ as PPs have said.

I'm definitely not the food police, I often laugh myself at some of the bizarre food posts on here eg -"PUDDING? why are you serving pudding? we never have pudding in this house, except a small piece of fruit or yoghurt.." We love our puddings here!

But I still wouldn't want bread with pasta, not a judgey type thing, just would seem too stodgy.

Sandybanana7 · 27/01/2021 09:35

2

freakdechic · 27/01/2021 09:35

2 - for all the people who don't have it with pasta, what do you have it with?

I only ever have garlic bread if we are having pasta, for me they go together like gin & tonic 🥰

ProudAuntie76 · 27/01/2021 09:37

In our house we have it with soup.

Hotcuppatea · 27/01/2021 09:38

3-4

redcandlelight · 27/01/2021 09:40

we have it with soup or stew.
or on it's own when watching a movie (instead of chrisps).

  1. I usually do two of those small baguettes and DH and DSs eat them between the three of them.
Bluesheep8 · 27/01/2021 09:46

I wouldn't eat garlic bread with pasta either. I eat it with things like Spanish fish or chorizo and chick pea stew or any kind of soup. It'd serve 2 in that case.
