As a side with pasta dish.

Just that 🙂

1 between 2 here, always with pasta!

StormcloakNord · 26/01/2021 23:49

@GADDay not sure if you'll hear me all the way up there on your lettuce shaped pedestal but you'll be chuffed to know I sometimes have one WHOLE garlic baguette to myself... with pasta.

Oh, the SHAME

dazedandconfusedd · 26/01/2021 23:53

Four. Two between four is just too much I think. But I suppose it depends on how big your portions are. We don’t skimp on those so a couple of slices of YB is fine. I always regret eating too much bread (bloat!), so try to limit it.

boatyardblues · 26/01/2021 23:57

4: 2 adults, 2 teens. It’s a side dish, not the main carbs.

SleepingStandingUp · 26/01/2021 23:57

5!

SleepingStandingUp · 26/01/2021 23:58

But I'll add before we had 3 kids to share with, 2. Were just too tight to buy a second

HorseOfPhillipMoss · 27/01/2021 00:10

For dinner tonight we had salad; leaves, cucumber, tomatoes, olives, those tiny sweet red peppers, goats cheese and griddled chicken, please tell me I actually ate a WINTER salad!! What if I eat it in warmer weather will I destroy my palate?? (Also yes I stole this combination from pizza express)

ChronicallyCurious · 27/01/2021 00:21

Although sometimes if we’re being naughty we have fajita stuffed garlic baguettes topped with cheese- then we’ll have one baguette each.

Blackisthecolour · 27/01/2021 02:18

This thread is absolutely bonkers.

I'm just wondering how the poster who called another poster greedy for eating a garlic bread to themselves knows that they don't have a really physically demanding job or are marathon training or similar. Not that it matters anyway, I suppose the question is...

Did you mean to be so rude?

Really. Nobody else thinks eating a WHOLE garlic bread is being greedy?

What about a whole loaf of bread? Surely this falls into the greedy camp.

I can, and regularly eat more than I should but I couldn't eat a whole loaf of garlic or any other type of bread.

.

GADDay · 27/01/2021 02:29

To clarify - when I talk about a whole loaf, I mean something like this:

RatherLostPenguins · 27/01/2021 03:25

That looks much bigger than the baguettes I'm thinking most people here mean. It says 480g and this is more the sort of thing I was certainly talking about (210g per baguette).

4 - I’ll have one slice, and others will have 2.

Ooh, that looks nice. Is it from a UK shop, or just an image you found online?

I recently discovered what I thought was going to be naice garlic bread because m&s had a little freezer in their bakery section where they'd made garlic bread using their in-store bakery bread.

I bought one and it was disappointing, nothing special and not garlicky enough. I wish I'd stuck to cheapy normal supermarket stuff at about a third of the price.

It did go nicely with their meal deal paella though for a novelty variation of double carbs.

PeckyOwl · 27/01/2021 03:47
  1. Although we should probably have one each to stop the repetitive argument over who gets to eat the ends. DP claims that 18 years ago I said that I didn't like them. Not true.

  1. me! I love garlic bread and sorry dont share nicely.

Really? You eat a WHOLE garlic bread.

That's greedy.^

I think that's quite a nasty comment..They answered the question that OP set out and you singled them out for a very judgy response. Greedy is such a loaded word as well. Not cool.

AnnabelleMarx · 27/01/2021 03:56

Yeah it’s greedy. I’m greedy. Everyone is. Nobody has only ever eaten the exact calories needed for their health every single day without fail. Everybody has eaten a little much at least once.

Being a bit greedy about something like garlic bread is not a moral failing.

HeronLanyon · 27/01/2021 06:41

I’ve realised (coming back to the ‘Slice lengthways’ issue) I do this not only to allow better butter/crust ratio (more butter possible and can kind of ‘pool’) but also because this reduces the ‘ends’ problem almost entirely.
I too think I have found bought garlic bread ‘tinny’ tasting.
Despite not eating it with pasta ever I am perfectly happy to eat a whole baguette with a salad or just on its own. Why on Earth not ? I’d maybe struggle to eat a long and tall (over risen) baguette but a flatter slightly smaller one sliced lengthways - no problem.

Btw discovered ready made sticks of garlic butter a while ago - hasn’t been stocked for ages. Wasn’t bad at all.

midnightstar66 · 27/01/2021 06:43

But a garlic bread is nothing like a whole loaf of bread, it's a baguette - like if you go to a sandwich shop at lunch and order a panini or baguette that is what you get as a portion for a single person with filings added!

Littleposh · 27/01/2021 06:45

3-4, that's 2 adults and 1 teen, sometimes I'll save a portion of the meal for the next day

StepOutOfLine · 27/01/2021 06:45

@Gah81

3 of us.

Another no garlic bread with pasta person here. Too many carbs. Half Italian though so may be something to do with that - none of my Italian cousins can get their head around the pasta/garlic bread combo. It is just a LOT.

I am in Italy and no Italian I've ever met in all my 27 years here knows what garlic bread is.
CarryOnPlainHunting · 27/01/2021 07:17

3 - me and 2 teenagers. There would be enough for 4 but dh doesn’t eat it.

Whyistheteacold · 27/01/2021 07:21

I am very confused, for the people who say they wouldn't have garlic bread with pasta, what would you have garlic bread with then? 🤔😂 Some sort of pasta/Italian meal is the only thing I would have garlic bread with. And one baguette does two in my house, me and DP. We could have less but just tend to graze on it even once cold because its there!

TheOneLeggedJockey · 27/01/2021 07:27

@Whyistheteacold - we only ever have it when we’re having a barbecue. Definitely not with pasta.

Juanbablo · 27/01/2021 07:34

I usually do one for 5 of us because 2 baguettes ends up being too much and wasted.
