Well, we'd cook one baguette, so it depends how many were eating that night. If only 3 of us were eating, then we'd manage to polish it off still, but if there were 5 of us we'd just share between the 5.

This thread has cheered me up. All the usual shuddering and horror I've come to expect from MN. The carbs! The carbs! Not to mention palate destruction.

As for me and my house, we will serve pasta with plenty of garlic bread. Yum.

Yup. Of course this is Mumsnet so we have people shuddering at the thought of buying ready made garlic bread instead of making it from scratch with cloves of foraged garlic and home baked focaccia. And others absolutely baffled at the thought of putting two, yes two! carbs on the plate.

As for myself, I manage to stretch out one garlic bread baguette for at least two months and that feeds my two super thin rugby playing sons and my husband, who all eat like horses for every meal, including breakfast.

1. A quarter each. I make mine by cutting the loaf in half crossways, and then slicing each half lengthways, before slathering each quarter with garlic-and-parsley butter.

Then freeze in pairs, so if there are just 2 of us, one pair comes out. If 3, 2 pairs and dh will probably scoff the 4th.

2 adults and 2 kids with pasta

Oh, and I know this may alarm some MNetters, but I was brought up in a house where you had white bread with every meal, mopping up the gravy, so bread with pasta is OK with me!

I'm GF so I cook 2 when there's 2 of us as ds has a normal 1!

I eat half and freeze other half. But I'll have a small pasta dish with it.

Ds (16) eats a whole one with a large plate of pasta and meatballs. But he usually swims up to 3 hours a day 5 times a week so is permanently starving and needs the carbs!

3 but they are 8 , 5 and 37 . It would have to stretch to 4 because no buggering way would I cook another for just one person but fortunately I don't eat bread.

I always love faux horror at double carbs , most people I know from all backgrounds had this as DC. Let's be honest if you are eating lasagne in the first place it's a nice bloody treat. Hardly doet food is it? A bit of garlic bread won't hurt.

Meh we love pasta and garlic bread here (although recently the darling little Angel's scourge of my damn menu planning have claimed they no longer like baguettes and only like it shaped like a pizza.

Firstly ...sod if you have had it once and there are two baguettes left in the freezer which you will damn well eat and like it

Secondly...its the same blasted thing...it's just a different shape!

Garlic bread would be my death row meal I do one baguette between max 3. Any more bodies = another baguette

My only reason for not understanding pasta with garlic bread is they would kind of fight against each other taste wise - I use a Lot of garlic in both generally - that might be the problem. Would have major garlic overload.
I once had potato cake and chips - that was a mistake, my mistake - very far from home and foreign language gap. Bloody good !

Your average supermarket garlic baguette is definitely not huge, there are only 2 of us so it's half each. I guess 2 slices is technically enough but its bloody yummy and I don't have it often so I want more!

Shinyletsbebadguys Your mention of 'faux horror at double carbs' reminded me of an incident that happened many years ago,when Woolworths were still around. I went in the in in-store cafe for lunch,and asked for a jacket potato with tuna mayonnaise. The lady who served me said 'Would you like salad or chips with it?'. Chips?! With a jacket potato? I was and .

If people think double carbs is an issue they would be horrified by my triple carbs when I get a curry, not counting the the samosa or bhajis! I do a lot of exercise so I think it balances out.
