Listening to some work being done on the paving outside. The scraping and plastering sound is strangely calming.

Deathraystare · 11/02/2021 11:36

@Champagneforeveryone

Ooh wish I was at yours, I love In the hall of the mountain King and love Metal! All I heard from my nephew and God son was a few bars of "Smoke on the water"!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/02/2021 11:43

champagne That sounds lovely!!!!

Wow, £3.66! What will you spend it on?

Grin, @Spudlet

Champagneforeveryone · 11/02/2021 12:41

I'm not sure it's exactly what they are expecting TBH Grin

Welcome, @Nitflux, and thanks for sharing your neonate nourishment news. Three hours sounds insane a bit much for that topic. You did well to stay as long as you did. I think I would have left to tend to the baby after 30 minutes or so.

We had an inch of snow overnight. That's the fourth snow event in nine days. It's enough to make you wish for a bit of global warming. Smile

Monday is a holiday here, Presidents Day. It's DS's birthday today so I've ordered him a cake and wrapped presents last night. He wants to make pizza for his birthday dinner since we don't want to go out and we had a takeaway last night. DH is taking the cats to the vet this afternoon for their annual checkup, which they hate with a passion.

Thanks, @MissConductUS, I'm an over-keen FTM due in 4 weeks, so signing up for Zoom classes in lieu of being able to do anything in person. It sure was overkill, although if you need any tips from someone with all the theory but no practical experience whatsoever, I'm your gal.

MissConductUS · 11/02/2021 16:28

Congratulations Nitflux on your impending life-altering event bundle of joy! My DC are both in uni, DS home and DD away, so my breastfeeding days are well past. Breastfeeding can be hard for both you and the baby. Don't beat yourself up if you need to switch to formula. If it's not working the most important thing is getting nourishment into the baby.

Having a newborn at home can be overwhelming because of the constant attention they require. Have you lined up some support for the first few months? I struggled with my first, had some PND and didn't even realize it for months. For number two I was on medication for it and had a doula come in for a few hours a day to help out. That was a much better approach. Don't be shy about getting whatever support you need.

Happy Birthday to your DS @MissConductUS.

Our day has been enlivened by an online church prayer meeting, and this evening there's a zoom meeting for a local club that we belong to.
I'm not sure I can stand the excitement of seeing so many people in one twenty four hour period!

Spudlet · 11/02/2021 16:34

Congratulations @Nitflux! Take her steady and be kind to yourself, that’s my advice 😊

Wore my new leggings on my run today - they are very snazzy. It was so cold I also wore a base layer that DH bought for when he went to the Himalayas...! Have attached a picture of said snazzy leg wear, minus my ugly mug Grin

MissConductUS · 11/02/2021 16:47

Spudlet those leggings are the bee's knees. When I was still running earlier this winter I was doing two layers of sweatpants. I have some really soft stretchy ones that fit tight, then a loose pair on top.

I haven't run in a week, trying to rest the torn ligament in my hip. It's bad enough that I've just booked an appointment with my orthopedist for Tuesday morning. I plan to beg him ask for a cortisone injection, which he's done for me in the past. I'm starting to worry that I've worsened the injury somehow and will need a new MRI of the area.

I'm sure your mug is lovely. Grin

Lovely leggins!
They promised me that after my OP and after the healing is complete I'll be able to run, too. We'll see....

Still cold here.

Mintjulia · 11/02/2021 16:58

I have a new job

God, the relief. Gin. I've been out of work for 6 months and my savings were shrinking rapidly. I'm so relieved, I could cry. Start next month.

Mintjulia · 11/02/2021 17:03

@spudlet, are you quite tall? They look great. I need new running leggings but most of them are a bit short on me and I end up with cold shins in this weather which makes them ache.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/02/2021 17:08

@Mintjulia Yay!!!

Spudlet · 11/02/2021 17:09

I’m 5’10 @Mintjulia, give or take. They’re by a company called Rainbows and Sprinkles if that’s tall enough! They’re nice quality fabric, and have a pocket in the back big enough to fit an iPhone 7. Only gripe is that the drawstring is one of those ones which is joined together, and I like a long drawstring so I might replace it. Not the end of the word though.

Spudlet · 11/02/2021 17:11

Oh my goodness and congrats on the new job - missed that post! What a massive relief CakeGin🥂🍾

MissConductUS · 11/02/2021 17:11

Welcome, @Mintjulia, and thanks for sharing your fabulous employment news!

My DH has had a few periods over the years when he was unemployed and they were awful, stressful times for us both.

HelenaJustina · 11/02/2021 17:12

@Spudlet those are fab leggings and the photo is fantastic, love the lights and the snow!

HelenaJustina · 11/02/2021 17:13

Congratulations @Mintjulia ! Hope the celebrations are suitably lavish once funds allow!

chocolateisavegetable · 11/02/2021 17:16

We won £5 on the lottery. What to spend it on ...

Mintjulia · 11/02/2021 17:21

Thank you. I can't run round the house shrieking with excitement because I hadn't told DS I'd been made redundant. He's too young to need to worry about all that.

But I can celebrate by ordering some new running leggings (I darned the knee of my current ones, having slipped on some ice).

MissConductUS · 11/02/2021 18:28

Welcome, @chocolateisavegetable, and thanks for sharing the news of your good fortune! I think what to spend the five quid on is obvious - chocolate of course. Grin

A colossal delivery of dried mealworms today, ditto of sunflower hearts.
I shall expect a lot of glorious birdsong come the spring.

On a 🐷 note, I made a batch of 12 large, soft and chewy oat biscuits this afternoon. They are full of everything I really should be shunning at the moment, inc. golden syrup.
There are 4 left. But dh has had 5 to my 3.
The rest won’t last until tomorrow.
