I’m wondering how to carry two huge boxes of post into town. I’m thinking about this to avoid thinking about a piece of work I need to do on budgeting.

Sunbird24 · 04/02/2021 12:14

I have confused the staff in the canteen by ordering an omelette. It’s on the menu, but they can’t find it on the till...

Silkiechickscat · 04/02/2021 12:26

No news on house sale yet but DS lessons are done and 1 change of address. I also used DH's phone and discovered he's been in hospital to have a mole removed the doctors think maybe cancerous and he was hiding it Sad Which also explains the many trips to 'old house'. It's been removed completely but was very large and he hadn't been checked for years as he won't use NHS but couldn't get appointments in France.

Squirrel26 · 04/02/2021 15:30

Blimey, @Silkiechickscat, what a shock. Have you told him you know?

Champagneforeveryone · 04/02/2021 15:46

Not good silkie Sad

I have cancelled my holidays for this summer. One has been moved to September which has knocked over £200 off the price which has softy the blow somewhat. The other was our big holiday which I hope we can do next year instead.

In an effort to give us something to look forward to, I've just booked a week on a canal boat. DH is positively jubilant about this as he gets a fit of the vapours if he's expected to go more than 50 miles from home.

Silkiechickscat · 04/02/2021 15:46

Yes I told him and he said he was waiting for our house sale to go through before he told me. Hmm I think the doctor incharge thinks it is cancerous, well at least he said it didn't look good and all needed removing immediately. But at least its all gone. He's not been checked for years though. He did say he went as it started itching and crusty a couple of weeks ago but been there ages. As its on his lower back hard to know exactly, just hope if its cancerous its caught early. Though he said a research student looked at it and said it didn't look cancerous to her compared to other ones in her study so hopefully its not. He went in last Wednesday and they said 4 weeks for results. He seemed happier I knew. We had a friend die from skin cancer last year, before that both of us were meh about it - I hadn't realise it could affect more than skin. He seems well but not sure that indicates much. It looks like the melanoma type but he has got similar in lot of places though they apparently then photographed his whole body.

And our house is still not exchanged. I just feel like sleeping rather than sorting it out now though. Chasing solicitors and so is our buyer. Did Ds home learning for him today though was all just repeating. He's very cute as Pudsey and giggly today so break is doing him good. DD realised about DH but DS doesn't know. I'm hoping as we haven't heard yet that's a good sign but the NHS is overwhelmed atm with covid so suspect means nothing.

Silkiechickscat · 04/02/2021 15:50

Shame about the holidays Champagne We just have the one week booked now for summer but I really hope one of the kids doesn't get a close contact isolation as that will go west and its the whole year as close contacts now as school changed the rules. Still at least having a possibly imaginary holiday booked helps my mood, well it did until I found out DH may have skin cancer and our house sale isn't exchanging.

MissConductUS · 04/02/2021 15:52

@Silkiechickscat, that's awful that you've had to find out like that. So many men have a bone in their head about ignoring medical problems until it's critical. I had a skin cancer removed last summer. It's nothing to mess about with.

You can't tell by looking at a mole if it's cancerous. The cells have to be inspected under a microscope. Some types tend to just grow on the skin. Other types are more invasive. You should really have the lab results back shortly.

Oh silkie, big hugs to you. I hope it’s nothing too serious. My grandpa had a dodgy mole removed and went on to live well into his nineties. 🤞

Nydj · 04/02/2021 16:48

silkie what a day! I’m so sorry and hope that your DH is ok.

Nydj · 04/02/2021 16:52

In dull news, someone on a previous thread asked about the Linda McCartney hoisin shredded veggie duck - Eggy perhaps? We tried it last night and it was good. Not amazing or great but we were in a bit of rut with 5-6 dinners that we keep having in rotation so this made a nice change with pancakes.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 04/02/2021 16:55

@Silkiechickscat
All the best for your DH (and you). DH gets checked regularily and had several removed just to be safe. They do a pre-check at the GP with some sort of light.

Deathraystare · 04/02/2021 17:02

I managed to lose my little diary and suddenly realised I should have been at work! I got a text at one to remind me (I normally am in by then even though I don't start till 2pm!). I am getting so ditsy! It is not as if I have loads of stuff to do that I get confused!

Still it was good to see people and another porter is back recovered from Covid anyway. He had given it to his BIL so I said he would be crossed off the Christmas list!

Spudlet · 04/02/2021 18:33

We have a cubic metre and a half of firewood on the driveway (less what we’ve managed to stack so far) - it was delivered at 5.15 this afternoon. The outside light at the front of the house is broken... Confused

We were all out stacking until dinner was ready, and I was all set to go back out once DS was in bed, but DH has said he’d quite like to put a podcast on and be antisocial while he does it himself. So I will be doing a bit of yoga and then putting my feet up. It has to all be stacked this evening because we’re blocked in and DS has an eye appointment first thing tomorrow morning 😬

Silkiechickscat · 04/02/2021 19:20

Thanks everyone. I hope DH will be OK, unfortunately not checked for years. Hearing will exchange / complete tomorrow. Did parking permits for buyers, a change of address, DS lessons and clearing boot / old house. want to sleep now.

Frownette · 04/02/2021 19:40

Oh shit silkie, I got the impression it was all sorted. Sorry about DH as well, hope it has been isolated. It's sort of playing the waiting game with these things Flowers

It's been an odd day, I woke up feeling feverish and then waited to see if it dissipated and if I needed to order a test. You do get a bit conscious about whether you're taking up resouces. I think all I've eaten today is tiramisu which is not jam packed with vitamins Blush

Squirrel26 · 04/02/2021 20:39

No, but tiramisu is delicious.

I'm not sure where my phone is, but a whatsapp has just come up on my watch, so it must be round here somewhere.

HelenaJustina · 04/02/2021 21:17

Flowers @Silkiechickscat or Gin if that helps more!

Feeling any better this evening? @Frownette

halfpasteleven · 04/02/2021 21:52

Thinking of you @Silkiechickscat . Moving and completing on a sale is stressful enough without anything like you're going through on top of it.

I haven't had tiramisu in so long @Frownette - I must look out for it - although I'm the only one here that eats it actually that's not a bad thing now that I think about it.

mathanxiety · 04/02/2021 22:26

Silkie I hope you can take a few minutes to rest and do something nice for yourself - a cup of tea, listening to a little music, staring into space, painting your toenails...

Silkiechickscat · 04/02/2021 23:53

Hope you are feeling better now Frownette

It sounds fairly promising for at least exchange tomorrow and hopefully completion though exchange is good enough.

I've listened to lots of music today Maths I have to confess to playing music over the online lessons at some point Blush though in my defence I have tried to theme it so back in the USSR over the cold war history lesson.

It will be such a relief if it goes through as it so much work and bills and we will get lots of cash from sale so will have money again. And the council will be off my back as they've declared it empty which means they can cease it if it doesn't sell by Sept 2022.

Had a Chinese and DH and DD did manage to clear rest of old house and take meter readings and I got stuff over to our buyers and their parking permits. Tomorrow will be quite full on if does / exchange complete and DS has lessons from 8.30pm to 3pm which I need to do and after that we have to sort this house but should calm down after that.

Really hope DH doesn't have cancer or caught very early so may need no more treatment - he said they went to do biopsy then doctor said that looks bad and cut whole thing and around it out. The only reassuring thing is its not an area that gets sun so hopefully its just a wierd thing not cancer. Having said that DH has similar all over, some of which do get sun though no others are itchy and crusty. He keeps telling me he has a lot of life insurance which is good but I want him not his life insurance.

DD and DS have done the UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge and DD is in a team doing the February Harvard-MIT Maths Tournament.

MissConductUS · 05/02/2021 00:18

Silkie, any decent size hospital will have its own pathology lab. You should really have biopsy results in 48 hours. Mine does them in a day.

OP posts:
Silkiechickscat · 05/02/2021 00:31

It was done last Wed and they said they would give results in 4 weeks though in my experience bad results come in 2 weeks and 4 weeks is normal results. But the hospitals are overwhelmed with covid atm and some cancer treatments are just cancelled. It's one of the best state hospitals in the country though. It may be worth DH calling them as they do often just sit on normal results or even abnormal ones unless very urgent.

Frownette · 05/02/2021 00:57

Apparently both cats and dogs can pick up on human ailments so perhaps silkiecat was.

Don't you worry tonight though. Yes they don't always phone through so worth chasing up.

soddingkitten · 05/02/2021 06:39

I’m keeping everything crossed for a clear biopsy for Silkie’s DH. 🤞

Sodding caught his first mouse yesterday and was very excited to show it to DH. They sent me photos because I was in work. I told Lovely Neighbour via WhatsApp. She replied along the lines of “oh that’s where it went” and explained she found Shyboy hassling it in a flowerpot, pulled him out of the way so it could escape - and it had run under the bush where Sodding was sitting. So he caught it and killed it, but Shyboy had worn it out for him.

We were unsure how things would shake down with Sodding and Shyboy, as Sodding loves following Shyboy around and to be near him. I’m still not sure how Shyboy feels about him, but LN says Shyboy isn’t stressed as he’s not pulling his fur out (as he’s done in the past). If there’s a Jedi/padwan teacher thing going on, it will be grudging on Shyboy’s part.

I have a delivery of boys’ trousers arriving today, all being well. It was hard to find teen boy sized trousers online so I hope these fit. My boys have both grown a couple of inches since autumn.
