We made it into the official top 3 in the city/suburbs for the week's combined snowfall, coming in at 19.3" in total. There was only an inch separating the top three.

lurch3r · 02/02/2021 06:11

sodding kitten - I too have a velcro kitten at the moment. Have been in bed sick last 3 days and she has been loving it as I am nice and warm. Sleeps on my shoulder like a parrot which is ok until she meat-yawns right in my face. Back to work today so she'll have to find another heat source.

Silkiechickscat · 02/02/2021 06:48

DH just got up but the cat slept through. I told him he should go up to her and meow really loudly in her ear. She'ld probably be happy to be woken up by her beloved DH though think DH maybe enjoying his short break from cat slavery duty.

Thai hotel messaged to ask me why I hadn't replied, they send things from 6 e-mails and I replied before cc'ing all 6 so no idea why they think I've not replied but I posted a message on online system as well as 2 more e-mails.

Silkiechickscat · 02/02/2021 06:54

I told the English teacher yesterday that I had read her lesson to DS and he had just muttered this lesson is worse than a 1980s sitcom for writing and that why is the teacher asking us to come up with -ed words - just tell her there are 40,962 words that end in -ed and that is the end of the discussion.

She replied that it made her laugh and she missed DS a lot.

I got DH to hand DS the maths exam as I was doing his science one and apparently he just put a blanket over his head and went to sleep so attempt 2 today, suspect another one for me.

halfpasteleven · 02/02/2021 08:01

Catching up here..
@Squirrel26 your bathroom sounds fab- exposed beams are lovely I think.

Glad the girls are found.

Bide your time @Frownette

@Sunbird24 buy the one you know you will wear the most often - which one will work best with your hair colour, skin tone and current wardrobe..

Spudlet · 02/02/2021 08:02

That is an awful lot of snow! Will it make life more difficult? The majority of the uk would grind to a halt if we had that amount - maybe right up in the woods of Scotland they’d manage better as they tend to get more snow more often, but down where I live we’d definitely be all snowed in, no bread or loo roll left in the supermarket, maybe even power cuts. Are you a bit better prepared over there?

I expected to wake up to a crisp and lovely morning today, when I went for an evening walk with ddog the grass was already getting crispy. However it started raining in the night and we have woken to a very murky day (or as DS would have it, a Mercury day). Feeling slightly cheated as I was hoping the mud might have semi-frozen again but now there will be even more of it 🙈

Spudlet · 02/02/2021 08:03

My flapjacks have crumbled - I thought the mix looked too dry. I have had some of the crumbs sprinkled onto yoghurt for breakfast and I am going to add more of the sticky ingredients later and see it I can get them to stick a bit better.

Silkiechickscat · 02/02/2021 10:12

Having quite a productive morning. So far I have done a French lesson with DS and an English lesson, booked a weeks summer holiday in UK (as saw only one week not booked so grabbed it quick), managed to agree a refund on Thai hotel from last summer after 9 months and got £200 of £270 back (Paypal took most of rest) and got it through to bank.

Now just have maths test and science to get through with DS, delivery of hemp bedding for chickens, and hopefully some change of address letters though didn't sleep last night again so feeling like a big sleep. Want to make sure we get silkies bedding first though.

HelenaJustina · 02/02/2021 10:16

@Silkiechickscat much more productive than me! I had a coffee in bed and finished the last chapter of my book. Cleaned the bathrooms, made leek and potato soup for lunch, did some weights based exercise and am now off to work! It’s felt so unbelievably decadent!

Silkiechickscat · 02/02/2021 10:20

That sounds very productive too HelenaJustina

Silkiechickscat · 02/02/2021 11:33

Got delivery for silkies now and DS's UKMT details have come through so he can do that though DD is also sitting it so now a cat fight will start over it. Been looking at booking a second week but think will leave atm and see what happens re holidays.

Squirrel26 · 02/02/2021 12:48

I have stolen the alcohol wipes from my colleague’s office, because I am here and he is not, and I need to disinfect stuff.

MissConductUS · 02/02/2021 13:38

Good day lovely people of the thread. I am still here, if snowbound. We're at about 18 inches of snow at this point, which I'm sure you can see from the photos. That's a woodpecker on the feeder. We don't see them all that often so I took the picture when I had the opportunity.

DH cleared the driveway again this morning, so we can get out if we need to. Weather like this is why we drive Subarus and always have winter tyres on one of them. It's still snowing very lightly but they're only predicting another inch of accumulation for the rest of the day.

@Spudlet - Everything did come to a halt yesterday. No one was supposed to be on the road unless it was really necessary. I think things will be back to normal later today. The town where I live is well prepared to deal with this level of snow. Here's some of the local news coverage, with a bit of NY 'tude:

Winter Storm Orlena no match for hardy New Yorkers

Spudlet, did you wind up watching The Dig? Decider.com ran a follow up article about what happened to the main characters later in life.

What Happened to Edith Pretty’s Son Robert Pretty From ‘The Dig’?

IT Cat is on duty in the Conduct family NOC (Network Operations Center). He is guarding a critical piece of kit by sitting on it.

@MissConductUS Not yet, we might get it this weekend. DH will sort it at some point, I don’t have the energy Blush

I decided to try and sort out DS’s Lego today - it was all in one big box and we had hit critical mass and couldn’t find any of the bits for anything. I have now sorted the majority of the sets into freezer bags so hopefully it will be a lot simpler to find the ones we’re looking for - although there are an awful lot of spare bits still sloshing around the bottom of the box. But I’m hoping they will find their way back to their sets as we build each one.

I did regret starting this procedure at the halfway point, but it is quite satisfying now it’s done. The box is bulging though, we really need a better storage system.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 02/02/2021 17:51

Hello to all of you,
I just came home from a very quiet office - most of my collegues are working from home.
And I felt hungry so I had a piece or preliminary cake. Turns out nobody had eaten bc. of work, so we'll probably cook sth.

@MissConductUS
I had to convert this, about 40 cm, that is a lot! Our snow is gone, snowcat melted away this morning.

MissConductUS · 02/02/2021 18:20

@Prokupatuscrakedatus, yes, it's about 46 cm and we've had a bit more today. DH is going to do one last clean up in a few hours. The plows going past our driveway have created a wall of snow that has to be cleared. I'm sorry you lost your charming snowcat, but at least you have pictures.

I'm now in the habit of posting temps here in C instead of F. I'll have to start doing other measures in metric.

Therainisback · 02/02/2021 20:06

I'm old school Miss. Feet & inches are fine for me.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 02/02/2021 20:27

Me, I'm meteric myself. But DH has kitchen scales, digital ones, and they can do all sorts of units. And they do not like me. The change system while I am trying to weigh sth, often mid weigh.
So I went and bought old fashioned analog kitchen scales. Hah!

halfpasteleven · 02/02/2021 22:00

We made pancakes for breakfast. The day stayed dull but nice after that.

Sunbird24 · 02/02/2021 22:07

Work today was non-stop, which is usually good as it makes the day go faster, but today I was just bouncing from meeting to meeting with no time to gather my thoughts in between. Becomes an issue when you have to go straight from a video call with French colleagues into one with fellow Brits without 5 mins to reset the language in your brain!

I ordered a nice black leather jacket off Amazon for £63. If I like it when it arrives I’ll get the matching red one. Yes, I’m a jacket addict...

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 02/02/2021 22:16

@sunbird24
Oh yes, language reset can be a problem. And having to speak another language is exhausting but fun, too. (I count that as exercise Smile.) DD's uni course is bilingual and after a full day of online lessons, she comes out with a lovely mix of everything.

I've given up on buying clothes.

MissConductUS · 02/02/2021 22:23

Prok, speaking of languages, your English is really excellent.

OP posts:
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 02/02/2021 22:33

@MissConductUS Blush
It's never as good as I would like it to be.

And there are so many lovely languages in the world and so many of them on the brink of being lost forever.

My really dull news: They sent me a Mini Boden catalogue ( I must have clicked on sth, they even got my name right).

Silkiechickscat · 03/02/2021 04:05

In the afternoon did a science lesson with for DS, chatted with estate agent, had chicken korma for dinner, looked more at holidays and emptied the boot of all the stuff from old house then tidied up a bit. Then finally had a sleep.

So still have to do change of address letters and DS still refusing maths test but otherwise on track with my home learning which DS appears to have contracted out.
