I’ve had my second vaccine and I feel horrendous

Absolutely bloody awful. Exactly like the flu. I had no problem after my first and I’m very pro vaccine so this is not a “don’t get the vaccine” post. Just be aware you might need a day off afterwards.

Had the vaccine at 8ish last night

  • woke up around 3 with a headache
  • woke up again at 6 with severe muscle aches all over
  • fever then chills, fever then chills on and off all day
  • vertigo and the room spinning when I turn over in bed
  • appetite is fine, I’ve still been hungry
  • very sore arm (same as the first time)

I’m hoping it’s going to be gone by tomorrow morning but I’m feeeling bloody sorry for myself

Ah x posts with Edward

In reply to other posters, people don’t have to see the point of the thread. It’s a post in chat, you either want to chat about or you don’t. Most of my friends & family haven’t had their Covid vaccinations yet so I appreciate the chance here to compare notes with people who have.

Honestly feel like I might have to vacate this corner of mn. What with all the covid deniers, thinly disguised anti vaccine threads and the inaccurate scare mongering I've just about had enough.

I think I'll sit firmly in the middle, ignore all the polarised views and hunker down till this is over.

This is in chat? Great.

24h after I had the second dose (Pfizer), I felt as if I were coming down with flu. However, 48h after the second dose, I was fine, and almost 2 weeks later, I am still fine. Hope you're feeling better soon.

TheGonnagle · 24/01/2021 21:32

I had my first AstraZeneca on Thursday morning. By mid afternoon I felt a bit shit. Nothing to put your finger on, just shit. Spent a feverish night and Friday was also a bit like the first day of flu. I cancelled work. By mid evening I was hungry and right as rain. A sore swollen injection site is all I have to report now. Not worried about the second dose, I’ll take that again to reduce the risk.

WhoWants2Know · 24/01/2021 21:32

There was a thread about vaccine side effects, but I can't find it right now. Anyway, I'm happy for any place to talk about it. I had my first shot this morning and now everything hurts and I feel sorry for myself. But I react the same to the flu jab, so it's not a surprise.

Zogstart · 24/01/2021 21:34

I don’t think this would put anyone off having the vaccine. Surely anyone can realise if the vaccine makes people feel this bad, imagine how bad they would feel with full blown covid.

Stormer · 24/01/2021 21:38

I had Covid last year and would take the vaccine over that any day.

You would hope that would be the case, but some people will be put off because they will see red flags that aren't there, as they were wavering anyway. That's my concern with threads like this.
FangsForTheMemory · 24/01/2021 21:39

Exactly. I had a TB jab once and felt lousy the next day. TB would be a whole lot worse.

Mincepie5 · 24/01/2021 21:40

I think it would help if people describe their reactions to the vaccine in context. I’d like to know which vaccine it was and whether people have had covid and how long ago.

I had covid last May and the first Pfizer vaccine 4 weeks ago. I had a temperature of 38 and swollen glands initially, then migraine, body aches, nausea & vomiting, tender rib cage and the weird nervy feeling I had with the virus. Nothing that co codamol and ibuprofen couldn’t fix and I found it all strangely reassuring.

Makes me wonder whether it’s actually better to wait a bit longer for the second vaccine if you’ve already had covid. I wonder if it was tested on people who’ve had covid or only on people who hadn’t?

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 24/01/2021 21:41

@EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide

It's strange that no other vaccines have such strong side effects though isn't it?
Well covid itself has rather strong effects on people like no other virus so maybe there's a connection.
Rockbird · 24/01/2021 21:42

My parents had theirs last weekend (Pfizer). My mother was fine, my dad was dizzy, temp, vomiting etc for about 12 hours then absolutely fine since and bloody glad to have had the jab. It hasn't put either of them off getting the second one, whenever that may be...

Rockbird · 24/01/2021 21:42

Neither of them have had Covid to their knowledge.

Oly4 · 24/01/2021 21:46

It can just show it’s working! Miles better than having bad Covid. Hope your recover quickly

DareIask · 24/01/2021 21:46

If you can excuse my out spokeness after a bottle of red..

I've heard today of a friend who's lost her dad, and another who may well lose her husband ..

And you're moaning about the vaccine????

Ffs. I'm sorry you're feeling rubbish but really, have a heart

Your dad vomited for 12 hours after a medical intervention and he is ok with that?
WhoWants2Know · 24/01/2021 21:49

It's not a fucking competition. Nobody is saying that what they are feeling is worse than losing a loved one. What one person experiences is not invalidated by someone else experiencing something worse.

@Cindie943811A

Thank you OP — this is very useful info because I’m due for my first tomorrow. Will make sure I have nothing urgent to do in the next couple of days and ditto after the second dose. I wonder if the doses were as originally planned, 21 days apart, if the reaction to the second would be different?
This is an interesting point, as three weeks is supposedly the time when immunity is beginning, so the second dose would then boost that immunity at that specific time ?

I had a sore arm but a cold compress on it really helped.

Haven't had 2nd jab yet

Bonnieonthelam · 24/01/2021 21:54

My parents dad 88 and mums 74 have both had the jabs, both are CEV and a number of allergies. They had sore arms but no other side effects. Everyone reacts differently. I know 16 people close to me who have had it, the worst I heard was cold sweats and tiredness in an otherwise active 54 year old medic. Everyone has had pfizer. I’ll def take it if offered.

giao · 24/01/2021 21:55

A neighbour, in her 90's has recovered well from Covid, but her son didn't. She would still have him if the vaccine had been available earlier.

We are so incredibly lucky to have this opportunity, can't believe some people refuse it.

Woodsageseasalt · 24/01/2021 21:56

Hi all - I’m an immunisation nurse, not COVID but my team cover the child and teenage program. All vaccines have the potential to make you feel ropey. Remember when babies get theirs and you’re advised to give them calpol - totally normal and expected. We tell all the kids in schools it’s normal to feel unwell and to take it easy and medicate if needed. Trust that you’re having an immune response and it’s meant to happen. I had mine (Pfizer) and had a tolerably sore arm and was knackered for two days, nothing more. Also - bear in mind it’s our only route out of this mess. If we dont get most people immunised we’ll be in and out of lockdown for years. Deep breath, have courage, get your jab when offered, if not for yourself then for your community x

MrsGulDukat · 24/01/2021 21:56

I had my first dose last week, starting getting cold symptoms the day after. My sinuses were angry and full and my head was banging. Fortunately, the symptoms have past now.
