Confused

Me and DH are freaking out a bit. At about 10pm we heard the letterbox go while we were watching TV but didn't immediately check it. We've just got up to head to bed and it's a tiny little ziplock bag (like 50p sized tiny) with white lumpy powder in it Hmm

We're going to have to call 111 in the morning arent we? Really freaked and going to struggle to sleep now!

What the actual fuck Confused

I'd just put it on the side for now and see what happens. I'd bet that nobody comes for it.

After a week had passed, I'd buy one of these to test what's in the bag, just out of curiosity... www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EZ-Test-Cocaine-Purity-Tester-DIY-Testing-KITS/154301832032?hash=item23ed1b1b60:g:cF0AAOSwuC5gCrt5

@oakleaffy

What is bloody tragic, U.K. never had a drugs problem til we changed legal prescription for heroin and cocaine for addicts in the late 1960’s. It was all prescribed to mainly middle class addicts. Then a lot of Canadians came over and Lady Frankau over prescribed to a negligent degree.

Methadone and no cocaine became the state line, and the black market willingly took up the slack.

Bing Spear from the Home Office, back when addicts were “ Notified” to home office predicted a huge surge in criminal activity once drug prescribing was curtailed.
NHS cocaine would probably have been ethically produced, just as now poppy crops are for NHS painkillers.
We even grow P. Somniferum in U.K. for NHS opiates.

Illegality always causes terrible issues

Yes. I would support controlled supply of drugs to users, on the face of it. Lots of practical problems with that, though.
oakleaffy · 24/01/2021 14:13

Also-If drugs were legal they would lose the “Naughty” appeal that make them appealing to some.
But, no govt is ever going to argue for legal drugs as it isn’t a vote winner.
It seems counter intuitive to argue for legislation, but it is likely that demand would fall.
It is the illegality that leads to the health issues and crime.
Eg vicious gangs, environmental pollution, farmers being exploited, drugs cut( diluted) with other substances &c

Op, I once found a tin full of hash in my garden and the owner did indeed come to the door to ask for itShock

NiceGerbil · 24/01/2021 14:17

Just read the last post and totally disagree.

Opium was massive at one point. Opium dens.
You could buy 'tinctures' OTC - laudunum.
Valium in the 60s was 'mother's little helper'.
Alcohol is a drug and an extremely damaging one.

The history is very interesting but the idea was only had issues since the 60s is just totally wrong.

Deathraystare · 24/01/2021 14:17

The first baggie is free!

Lotsalotsagiggles · 24/01/2021 14:20

It is snowing today

Cool don't be a kind neighbour sharing salt to spread to get our abs about in the mornibg?

ChristmasSexyTime · 24/01/2021 14:25

@hashbrownsandwich

What are you talking about?

Opium dens were largely fictional in U.K.. Used instead in private residences where Chinese people worked and lived.

Laudanum and opium was legal.
Crime and drugs were not linked in U.K. til the 1960,s when it exploded.

PlantMam · 24/01/2021 14:35

Last time I saw a little baggy of white stuff it was just one dose of chlorine for a neighbours hottub 🤷‍♀️

glassecase · 24/01/2021 14:53

@Goodbye2020Hello2021

Glassescase

Yeh, dealers importing & trading with each other maybe but not for a customer on a housing estate who wants a minuscule bag of coke.

So you reckon dealers are super happy with bank transfers?
glassecase · 24/01/2021 14:54

@Goodbye2020Hello2021

captain

Agree. glassescase disagrees not me.

I disagree because it's the illegality that causes the gang warfare etc

tolerable · 24/01/2021 15:12

rachie1793 how do i do that?i dont mean to be disruptive(or hijak post)

ClashCityRocker · 24/01/2021 15:20

Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are used to purchase drugs online.

Western Union used to be a popular method too, but I think that's more traceable now?

Nat6999 · 24/01/2021 15:20

It will already have been paid for, dealers round here take PayPal, the driver will probably have been off his face anyway & won't remember where they delivered it to.

ItsJustARide · 24/01/2021 15:36
@Dundundunnn
You and your dd will definitely know people who take coke regularly, they just haven't told you.

How very sad that so many people dislike themselves and their lives so much that they need a chemical crutch to get through the day.

Also very sad that people who don't do drugs (or alcohol) so often feel the need to apologise by labelling themselves as "boring" or "unadventurous". There's nothing boring about having the strength and confidence to navigate life without pumping yourself full of toxins.
I bet you’re a blast at parties

Reallyhadenough · 24/01/2021 15:55

Well done op! I called the pcos to come round to talk and remove my underage son's vape a few years ago...they were more than happy to do it. So any concerns they are willing to help

Haha, what an absolue waste of police time.

Destroy the vape yourself, and talk to your son yourself - you're the parent.

Seriously?

Reallyhadenough · 24/01/2021 16:11

Yes seriously..I had thrown out and spoke to him and school, so I then spoke to the pcso and they offered to come and have a chat and remove the other vape.

JaimieLeeCurtains · 24/01/2021 16:11

But are those parents likely to care enough to become Mumsnetters?

I've read tonnes of posts on MN from parents - usually mothers - worried sick about their teenage DC, and/or who are living in abusive circumstances, and/or who are otherwise vulnerable e.g. to financial, social, cultural or coercive pressures along with their dependent DC.

There's plenty more to MN than 'AIBU' and 'Chat'.

userxx · 24/01/2021 16:15

What did they say to him - Vaping stunts your growth ?

Reallyhadenough · 24/01/2021 16:23

They actually spoke about the law! It worked because 4 years later he doesn't smoke or vape. At the time he was in with a bad crowd and that chat helped him (he does appreciate and thanks me still)

NiceGerbil · 24/01/2021 16:30

If you're talking about the crime aspect then it's the USA 'war on drugs' that got picked up around the world then that's the real trigger for me.

Drugs should be legal and treated as a health issue not a crime issue. Taxed and controlled etc.

But the idea that drugs were never a problem before the 60s, I thought it was the addiction angle and certainly alcohol tobacco etc have caused lots of harm and people were addicted to OTC tinctures. The legal illegal division is arbitrary.
