Make a dinner using only corner-shop ingredients

I'm in the process of moving my stuff out of a flat above a tiny shop. I've not been here for a really long time and house mate has also moved out so there's virtually no cooking stuff except oil and salt. While the shop downstairs has some fancy beans and spices and plants milks etc. etc. there's no fresh veg beyond potatoes and onions and tomatoes and no raw chilled ingredients. I normally cook from scratch every day at home but I'm really, really enjoying a few days of corner-shop dinners Grin

Tonight was tinned spaghetti on toast with tonnes of Jamaican hot sauce, and tinned potatos (they are so bloody nice!) with loads of butter and salt on them and a Beck's Blue. Oreos for and decaf for pudding Grin

What would be your corner-shop dinner? Tomorrow I've got my eye on the supernoodles....

I love minted marrowfat peas with tinned potatoes and frozen fish.

Are they good on international foods?

Frownette · 23/01/2021 18:26

Spiced fava beans with rice is lovely

AttackOfTheFloppyKnob · 23/01/2021 18:26

Pot noodle poured over smash (( don't knock it till you try it ))

Tinned hamburgers on supernoodles.

Also hotdogs on supernoodles.n

A pack of those meatball things they always sell stirred into cheesy beans on toast.

Takes me right back to the 90s. 😋

Instant noodles cooked as per packet instructions. Crack an egg in and poach it in the pan while the noodles cook, add a tbsp or two of canned sweetcorn and serve with soy sauce.

You can usually make a decent pasta sauce out of cornershop ingredients: tomatoes, olives, tuna.

Those packets of microwave rice make excellent fried rice with an egg, sweetcorn, frozen peas. Bonus points: add spam and a crispy fried egg on top.

Fishcakes using tinned potatos and a tin of tuna with a pouch of microwave rice

This is disgustingly gross and I'm ashamed for even typing it, but super noodles with grated mozzarella mixed through at the end, dumped on a slice of toast and topped with hot sauce. I had that as a drunk meal once and it was incredible

MarleyTheDog · 23/01/2021 18:40

Fried spam with cheese and potato pie and tinned tomatoes (or beans).

I used to do something very similar at uni. Supernoodles, white bread, thick spread, salt and cheese. Grin

Chilli made with kidney beans, baked beans and an onion. If I could be arsed. Tinned potatoes with grated cheese if not. I LOVE a tinned potato

Stationfork · 23/01/2021 18:46

I like super noodles with a tin of Tuna mixed in or just several packets of different crisps

TheChosenTwo · 23/01/2021 18:48

Probably just crisps!
Or i’d cheat and order a takeaway Grin

AnnaSW1 · 23/01/2021 18:48

I'd go for curry pot noodle

GreenSlide · 23/01/2021 18:48

A Goodfellas cheesy pizza

Hangingover · 23/01/2021 18:48

I LOVE a tinned potato

They're so good aren't they. I mean, they're ludicrously expensive given you can buy a whole kilo of potatos for the same cost but they're so so yummy.

Do not microwave them though, learned that the hard way.

Tuna pasta bake, I prefer a tomato based sauce to a white one, so even more store cupboard!

Falafels are pretty pretty cupboard based too.

YesMeLady · 23/01/2021 18:49

Bombay potatoes with rice if they sell it
