Make a dinner using only corner-shop ingredients

I'm in the process of moving my stuff out of a flat above a tiny shop. I've not been here for a really long time and house mate has also moved out so there's virtually no cooking stuff except oil and salt. While the shop downstairs has some fancy beans and spices and plants milks etc. etc. there's no fresh veg beyond potatoes and onions and tomatoes and no raw chilled ingredients. I normally cook from scratch every day at home but I'm really, really enjoying a few days of corner-shop dinners Grin

Tonight was tinned spaghetti on toast with tonnes of Jamaican hot sauce, and tinned potatos (they are so bloody nice!) with loads of butter and salt on them and a Beck's Blue. Oreos for and decaf for pudding Grin

What would be your corner-shop dinner? Tomorrow I've got my eye on the supernoodles....

@EssentialHummus

Just a giant plate of fried potato hash with ketchup, maybe with a tinned chicken curry on the side (I’m a recent convert). Or tinned hot dogs. Dessert would be custard and one of those sachets of cappuccino or latte.

I've got a tin of chicken curry, never tried it before but I'm all about easy meals at the moment.

Corned beef hash but someone has beaten me to it.

katy1213 · 24/01/2021 00:05

And maybe Ambrosia rice? Or green jelly with tinned pears?

Tinned spaghetti bolognese, preferably Heinz on toast with lurpack butter. Or the whole tin in a bowl on it's own.

katy1213 · 24/01/2021 00:10

But I'd probably settle for all the Kettle crisps and Ben and Jerry's I could eat!

Super noodles and bread and butter, cheesy beans on toast with a fuck ton of pepper and mayo, tinned curry and some cheap naan bread, of they have a freezer section most definitely a pizza.

BillMasheen · 24/01/2021 00:34

This sounds fucking amazing

BillMasheen · 24/01/2021 00:35

@missrm

This is disgustingly gross and I'm ashamed for even typing it, but super noodles with grated mozzarella mixed through at the end, dumped on a slice of toast and topped with hot sauce. I had that as a drunk meal once and it was incredible
oops. I meant to quote this absolute culinary masterpiece

@Pebbledashery

I keep looking at tinned potatoes in the supermarket.. Are they really that nice?? I might try :)
I think they sound awful but apparently, they make great roasties!
PeggyHill · 24/01/2021 06:44

I have never heard of tinned hamburgers! I'm not sure if they have them in my country, but I really want to try then now...

I would just be eating crisps. Obviously would need to be 5 or 6 bags, or one of those massive sharing bags, otherwise it's not enough. Add fruit pastels to make it a complete meal.

Yep they're yummy. Like little boiled salad potatos. I repeat, do not microwave though. They can explode and not even in the microwave, after you've taken them out and are holding one up to your face to bite it Shock

Omg so tinned potatoes update.... Roasted in the oven with herbs and seasoning.... Heaven.
I stocked up bought 10 tins 😭🤣

Crayfishforyou · 26/01/2021 19:32

A tin of stuffed vine leaves, a packet of happy shopper biscuits with a family sized mint aero and 2 litres of diamond white.

Pebbledashery · 26/01/2021 19:33

There's tinned stuffed vine leaves???? 😳

Vinosaurus · 26/01/2021 19:34

Chicken and mushroom frat bentos pie and baked beans - covering all the major food groups!

WhyIsMyKitchenSoCold · 26/01/2021 19:35

Chickpea curry - chopped onion, garlic and ginger if you have them. Fry with curry paste, ketchup and lemon juice. Delicious esp if the corner shop has naan available.

WhyIsMyKitchenSoCold · 26/01/2021 19:36

My DC would want me to add tuna with pesto and pasta. Cheese optional.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 26/01/2021 19:39

Eating spam out of the tin. Dont judge me.

Pebbledashery · 26/01/2021 19:39

@Shehasadiamondinthesky shooooockingGrin

Camomila · 26/01/2021 19:44

fish fingers chips and peas or potato waffles with baked beans on top.

Chocolate for pudding, and maybe a rich tea biscuit for the baby if there's no fruit.

Breathmiller · 26/01/2021 19:59

Oooh. I'm interested what I could survive on as a gluten free vegan.

Waffles and beans.
Maybe a tin of chickpeas and a tin of tomatoes and some rice. Maybe some tinned potato in there for a wee curry. They probably have a tub of generic curry powder languishing at the back of a shelf. My gran used to give us tinned potatoes sometimes. I remember them fondly.

Tinned fruit for pudding.

And lots of crisps, maybe a jar of salsa.

Tin of sweetcorn and a tin of peas with fried tinned potatoes.

Do they have porridge? I could make that with water and salt and add tinned fruit.

Might get a treat of a bar of Bournville. Or a bag of skittles.

I kind of want to go to a corner shop and try this at some point. Grin Well, the idea is probably better than the reality.

How long do you have to do it OP?

Hangingover · 27/01/2021 13:07

I'm vegan too as it happens. I'm just had kettle chip sandwiches for lunch! I'm going back on Friday so no point buying cooking stuff now. My taste buds are happy but I'm definitely putting on weight. Grin

Also have consumed on average a half or sometimes a whole packet of Oreos per day

On All4 there was a show called Chef Vs corner shop. They had to make menus just from a random corner shop selection. Might give you some inspiration!

cricketmum84 · 27/01/2021 13:25

Tin of stagg chilli on top of a bag of Doritos and topped with cheese and a few dollops of Philadelphia 🥰
