Sudden sense of impending doom

It's really weirded me out. Just randomly got hit by this feeling of impending doom. Like a really anxious sinking feeling in my stomach and my brain just feeling, well, doomy? Never suddenly felt like this before!

I've taken myself to bed over it. I feel really uneasy and I have no idea why. I'm shaky too. It's so weird. Husband thinks I'm being dramatic!

I get this sometimes when I'm thirsty

Walkacrossthesand · 20/01/2021 18:41

There's a lot going on. Highest Covid death count today, the end of the Trump era and the anxiety about an angry mob there... hopefully the feeling will subside and all will be well for you.

This exact thing happened to me several days ago and it has not shifted since. I wake with the shakes and that sickly nervous feeling that builds until I feel panicked. It is a horrible feeling, I contacted the GP who prescribed some anti anxiety medication, maybe worth a thought if the feeling does not lift?

StealthPolarBear · 20/01/2021 18:41

Not as bad as you describe, just a sort of sinking doomy feeling.
I also wonder about your blood sugar?

BIWI · 20/01/2021 18:41

I don't want to worry you, but this can be a sign of a medical emergency.

Look here

If you're feeling shaky too, I'd be worried about that - I think you should call NHS 111

StealthPolarBear · 20/01/2021 18:42

OK mine never lasts more than a few mins. Apologies ignore me, hope you're feeling better soon

ComDummings · 20/01/2021 18:42

Sometimes it’s a symptom of illness please take care and call 111 if you’re feeling unwell in any way

Graffitiqueen · 20/01/2021 18:44

It's a sign of anaphylaxis sometimes.

NewYearNewLockdown · 20/01/2021 18:45

Probably just tiredness but if it's a really strong feeling I would ring 111. It can be a sign of heart attack, probably not but phone if you're worried.

Dinasaurcatcher · 20/01/2021 18:45

Posters above are correct, it happened to me when I was VERY unwell

Butternutsqoosh · 20/01/2021 18:47

I agree with previous posters, an impending sense of doom is a classic sign of being quite poorly so get checked out just to be safe ... could be something could be nothing, but there is a lot going on in the world - hugs

2021welcome · 20/01/2021 18:52

Get this checked out. It's a big red flag

peppermintteadrinker · 20/01/2021 18:55

Yep , anaphylaxis lists this as a symptom. It's a sudden drop in blood pressure I think. Get yourself checked out?

samanthawashington · 20/01/2021 18:57

When I was nursing people who were given a particular medication would get this. It was to stop the heart momentarily, so it was pretty horrible.

I have just this sense of utter despair, doom, feel like I'm dying and palpitations every night, 10 minutes after I fall asleep. I have it every single night and have done for the past 7 or 8 years or more... I've lost count. I don't have panic attacks, MH problems, anxiety OCD or anything. My heart is fine, I'm fit and well. I've googled and think it's some kind of adrenaline surge. It pisses me off (would anybody) but I calm down and drift off to sleep again.

gottastopeatingchocolate · 20/01/2021 18:57

I have seen several posts mentioning this as their first covid symptom.

Applesarenice · 20/01/2021 18:57

I get this with PMS!

GalOopNorth · 20/01/2021 19:02

I had this once. I had internal bleeding (ruptured ectopic) and nearly died. It was as though before the rest of my body was having proper symptoms, my brain was going “uh-oh, this is really bad”
Take it seriously xx

peaceanddove · 20/01/2021 19:05

Can I ask how old you are OP? If you're late 30s onwards it could well be your hormones buggering about thanks to the peri menopause. I belong to a menopause support forum and sudden plunging feelings of doom and inexplicable anxiety are very common symptoms.

Nannewnannew · 20/01/2021 19:11

As previous posters have said, a feeling of impending doom is a very serious red flag. Please don’t ignore it and seek help from your GP/ A&E as soon as possible Believe me, they won’t think you’re making a fuss or similar, it’s a well known symptom.

LindaEllen · 20/01/2021 19:11

@Graffitiqueen

It's a sign of anaphylaxis sometimes.
Agree with this - my brother gets it and we know to grab his epi pen before his airways even start swelling.
IHateCoronavirus · 20/01/2021 19:11

Goodness op hope you are ok. Mumsnet is a wonderful place to find out important stuff. I never knew this was a thing but it could save someone’s life.

Mylittlepony374 · 20/01/2021 19:16

Its a warning sign for serious illness, including sepsis I think. Get checked out by a doctor.

ktp100 · 20/01/2021 19:16

I get like this with my thyroid.

Try to relax and book an appt with your GP. A blood screen might give you some answers here and if not, well, these are trying times!!

Hope you feel better soon, OP.x.

rumandbiscuits · 20/01/2021 19:17

I'm feeling the exact same OP and have also gone to bed. It's a horrible feeling, it's anxiety. I hope you feel better soon Thanks
