Sudden sense of impending doom

It's really weirded me out. Just randomly got hit by this feeling of impending doom. Like a really anxious sinking feeling in my stomach and my brain just feeling, well, doomy? Never suddenly felt like this before!

OP posts:
MonicaGellerBing · 20/01/2021 22:12

OP I'd check it's not an ectopic, shoulder pain is a sign of an ectopic pregnancy. Phone 111

thelionessqueen · 20/01/2021 22:14

Shoulder pain can be a sign of an ectopic pregnancy. And given your period is weird .. ring nhs

Mamascoven · 20/01/2021 22:15

Your last post makes me think ectopic straight away OP - please get it checked out

The only symptom of ectopic pregnancy that I had was shoulder pain. Ring 111 and explain.

ComDummings · 20/01/2021 22:16

Yes shoulder pain is ringing alarm bells, it might be nothing but if it’s an ectopic it could be serious

Santaiscovidfree · 20/01/2021 22:18

Happened to me.
Before my first 3 weddings!!

ladyflower23 · 20/01/2021 22:18

I had light bleeding for days with an ectopic and shoulder pain is also a sign. Sorry I don't want to scare you but could you be pregnant?

Dawnlassie · 20/01/2021 22:22

Bloody hell you lot are nervous nellies. I did feel like this once. I cannot explain what it was but I remember it was one afternoon during 2012 I remember because I was nodding off watching the olympics. I woke up after a nap and suddenly felt like something awful was about to happen, like really bad like a meteor hitting the earth kind of thing, or the sun going out. Nothing whatsoever happened and its now 2021.

Not saying there is nothing wrong but if you dont have any other symptoms I dont think this lot getting you worked up is going to help. Perhaps call a close friend for a chat until you feel better?

ladyflower23 · 20/01/2021 22:23

Just realised in your last post you said you are trying for a baby so ectopic is definitely a possibility. Do you have a pregnancy test you could take?

Ch3rish · 20/01/2021 22:24

Oh my, I hope you're still reading OP, MN is marvellous in situations like this in identifying possible medical issues

Please get checked for a possible pregnancy if that could be the case

itwasthegintalking · 20/01/2021 22:32

When I had an ectopic pregnancy, I had shoulder pain alongside shooting pain in my bum. Also had a horrible tired detached type feeling. Might be worth getting checked out.

Carryingon · 20/01/2021 22:36

I had wierd shoulder pain after a hysterectomy. Apparently it is common

quince2figs · 20/01/2021 22:54

OP, I’m senior NHS staff in gynaecology.
As you’re trying to conceive, have had unusually light bleeding and have shoulder and abdo pain, this must be taken seriously.
If you are in early pregnancy, these are (with the sense of impending doom) possible signs of an ectopic pregnancy. Ectopics can be life threatening if you don’t seek medical help.
Please ring 111 at very minimum and mention that you could be pregnant. If you are near a hospital, please get your DH to drive you there now.
If you have a pregnancy test at home and can do it quickly, that may be helpful if positive, but not necessary.

quince2figs · 20/01/2021 22:58

Hospital with an A&E and gynae department, that is

CatandBaby · 20/01/2021 22:58

Idk about ectopic pregnancy, but to me, shoulder pain plus sudden sense of impending doom is flagging heart attack. Please get yourself checked out OP.

Hobbes8 · 20/01/2021 23:08

I don’t think anyone else has posted this so I thought I’d chip in. Weirdly, I get this when I’ve eaten bread/pasta. I’ve tested negative for coeliac disease but I’ve given up gluten anyway because it makes me attractively flatulent and the anxious as hell.

Obviously get the more pressing medical emergency possibilities looked into, but if none of them pan out try going gluten free for a few weeks.

Sounds like faddy bullshit I know but the mental health/gut health connection is starting to be better understood (not by me..:I have no idea why this happens!).

I also have (properly diagnosed) low vitamin d which causes all sort of horrible symptoms. No bad thing to take a supplement, especjally as low vitamin d can be a risk factor in complications from Covid.

mmummm · 20/01/2021 23:20

Did you have any other symptoms?

I only ask because I had the exact same thing, and it turns out that I had epilepsy. I developed it suddenly when I was 29.

The first thing I had was when I went back to work after having my Daughter. I was sat there drinking coffee and had this feeling of impending doom. I felt really weird and went boiling hot and started sweating, I felt like I was overcome with emotion and was about to burst in to tears. I had a horrible sense of deja vu and a really strong smell washed past me. I could hear everyone taking but I couldn't respond. It lasted a split second before I came to and I felt confused and couldn't concentrate all day. I had this 3 times and thought I was having panic attacks. I then got pregnant and had a full blown seizure in the night. Have since had a few more smaller ones and was diagnosed.

Anyway, just thought if you've had any of the above symptoms similar to me then it might be worth checking it out.

IPeedInThePool · 20/01/2021 23:23

I would go get checked out .....now

Vebrithien · 20/01/2021 23:31

Please, PLEASE get checked out medically. A friend of mine had very similar symptoms (weird, light, long period, with suddenly thus feeling of room and shoulder pain) but carried on and came into school (teacher). She suddenly collapsed at work, and was rushed to hospital with a burst ectopic pregnancy.

She lost one fallopian tube, was seriously ill following her surgery, and had had more of a struggle to conceive. She was pretty close to dying.

Please.

@IntoTheRoses

So many replies! I've been trying to distract myself with a book or TV but I just feel antsy like I can't sit still. Not upset just a really weird feeling of doom and shaky as if something is about to happen, almost nervous. I've got a weird pain in my shoulder I think from being tense and a sinking geeking in my stomach but nothing besides that symptom wise.

I've not suffered from anxiety or panic attacks previously, can they come on for no reason? I've been switched off from the news for weeks and haven't felt worried about anything.

Worrying about heart attacks/strokes etc. I don't feel like that's what's happening but I guess I can't know? Husband is saying not to ring 111 and just get some sleep and I'm not sure what to do

I bloody hope it's not the menopause! I'm late twenties and trying for a baby! I am having a weird period at the moment, it's so light and has been for days with no cramps which did worry me a bit as it was so unusual for me. Oh god does that sound like perimenopause? Now I'm anxious!

Please call 999. If you're having shoulder pain and an impending sense of doom.... call them and tell them that.
Vebrithien · 20/01/2021 23:33

"this feeling of doom", not thus feeling of room

PicsInRed · 20/01/2021 23:36

You have impending doom and pain in your shoulder. Stomach is also a more common heart presentation in women. It's time to get to a doctor, OP.

megletthesecond · 20/01/2021 23:37

I've had this for a few years through peri-menopause, although I think it's starting to tail off a bit. I'm in a state of permanent anxiety which probably doesn't help.

IHateCoronavirus · 21/01/2021 00:37

Hi op how you are ok. Please get checked. My sil had shoulder pain and a short while later was being rushed to hospital. Her stomach suddenly looked like she was six months pregnant, it was a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. She wasn’t even trying to get pregnant and had the coil fitted.

DinosaurDiana · 21/01/2021 06:21

Right shoulder tip pain can be a sign of appendicitis.
If it’s not gone please phone someone.
