What have you got planned for this weekend coming?

I am sooooo bored of trying to find stuff to do at the weekend. I'd happily watch TV and do nothing else but I know that, come Sunday night, I'd feel I should have tried to do more. The thing is at the moment, 'more' is usually chores. And I don't want to do chores at the weekend, not when I work 60 hours a week Monday - Friday and am on 'stand by' at weekends if a client gets in touch. I've also had enough of Zoom calls with friends and family - I'm on Zoom calls 75% of my work time. I want a break from my computer when I'm not working.

So I'm looking for ideas. What are you guys up to this coming weekend? Anything inspiring for me to blatantly copy? Thank you!

Saturday morning I will walk to my sister's, weigh myself, then we are going for a walk through the woods, to a different (oohhh) supermarket. I want to cook something different so am going have a look. Maybe lamb curry, and all the extras. Saturday afternoon will probably be a nice bath and some treatments. I will also finish my book.

Sunday a similar walk with OH, and buy ingredients for a roast beef lunch. Sunday afternoon my GD comes, so lots of playing and learning.
I will start a new book.

Have a lovely weekend, folks, whatever you do.

devildeepbluesea · 21/01/2021 12:28

Saturday morning I'll teach an online exercise class for friends.
I'm a single parent so in the afternoon DD and I are going to DSis's for a board games and wine marathon.

Probably takeaway.

Sunday couch to 5k run with DD.
Maybe some baking.
Shopping.

zukiecat · 21/01/2021 12:50

It's my birthday on Saturday, DD and me will probably just stay in, read books and just relax.

Having a chipper as a birthday treat.

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 21/01/2021 12:54

I love the fantasy holiday competition, idea. I love all the food ideas but I'm calorie counting at the moment (successfully so don't want to stray) so food-centred activities are a no no :-(

Getting things ready for DS2s first birthday party next week and hopefully revising.

(I submitted a job app on Monday and find out tomorrow if I'm through to the 'test' stage)

iVampire · 21/01/2021 13:37

I have my first vaccination appt on Saturday

I’ll walk the dog at the slightly further parks for a change

And if the right things come in the online shop, I’ll be cooking pheasant (reminds me to check now for a good recipe and make sure I’ve got all the ingredients I want)

Alfiemoon1 · 21/01/2021 13:46

Taking the dog for a long walk. Dh works nights so will be in bed ds will probably be on his computer talking to his friends might go to the supermarket if I need to

TheGreatWave · 21/01/2021 13:48

It is ds's birthday, but he is also going to his autism support group, Domino's for tea. That's about it.

Labobo · 21/01/2021 13:50

@ritzbiscuits - what's the cracking book? I need a book that's a real hook. I'm wading through Burnt Sugar - well written but no drive to it.

soggyandwet · 21/01/2021 14:04

It much. I'm waiting for a bereavement call which nobody else in the house knows about so I'm not in the mood for going anywhere really.

HappyFlamingo · 21/01/2021 14:13

Pizza takeaway on Friday night
Go for a run with a friend
Make the DC practise their instruments and get some exercise
Visit the butcher to get some nice meat for the week (and support local farmers) and cook a roast on Sun
Zoom quiz with friends on Sat night

LittleRa · 21/01/2021 14:16

Well it just so happens that it’s (apparently) one of my DD’s doll’s birthdays on Saturday- who knew. So we’ve got balloons and candles and we’re baking a cake and making her a card, and all the other dolls will be in attendance in their party clothes Grin

ritzbiscuits · 21/01/2021 14:45

@Labobo it's the last of the Neapolitan Quartet by Elena Ferrante. My Brilliant Friend is the first one. Search for the series on Mumsnet chat, people tend to love them or hate them!

I can highly recommend the tv series too, it's literally the best thing I've ever watched!

LittleRa ... I think this is the best comment I’ve ever read on mumsnet! Made me smile.

One of the days is for doing nothing. DC are busy doing school work all day during the week which feels harder than normal school so we're all ready for some peace at the weekend.

Saturday - lie in, laze around, xbox, lego, crafts, easy food, long bubble baths.

Last Sunday I took DC to the woods, took a flask of hot chocolate & a pack of biscuits for us & peanuts & seeds for the squirrels. Spent 2.5hrs exploring/wandering, getting filthy etc then back home for a shower & chill out again. Really helped both me & dc to re-focus on Monday.

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 21/01/2021 16:01

I shall try and copy some of the ideas above. Just earlier though, as I rushed to the loo for a pee between conference calls, I thought to myself that I should book a day off. Then I quickly remembered I actually have the weekend coming up and have no idea what to do with it!

I have breakfast in bed on Saturday, to remind me that it’s the weekend.

I will look for local virtual orienteering course that I can complete using the MapRunF app, or if there aren’t any suitable go for a walk with the Turf app running and try and improve my position on the leaderboard there. That can take hours, it’s quite addictive adding in loops to the route to get to the places where you can score. On Sunday I’m going for a short run with a small child. Should be good fun.

A friend is sending food round for Burns night on Saturday, and then we will zoom and tell tales of the Bard. (May need to spend part of the day researching the Bard.)

playthegame · 21/01/2021 16:33

It's my DH's birthday this weekend! A big one!
Originally planned a big party but obviously that can't happen.
I feel so sorry for him as I had a great celebration for my same big birthday 2 years ago.

Will spend the weekend making it as special as I can for him.

happymummy12345 · 21/01/2021 16:36

Tbh the same as last weekend. Enjoying two days off from homeschooling. Trying to catch up on everything else we need to get done at home. And answering my sons questions again, "why is my school closed"? "When can I go back to school"? "Why is daddy not at work"? "Why do I have schoolwork to do"? And "why is the Christmas tree still up"?

HeronLanyon · 21/01/2021 16:42

Things I could do -
Get my keyboard out.
Go for a walk from my house somewhere newish - new route.
Make a plan to decorate a room and order stuff wtc (kind of pre chore but a bit more exciting/creative)
Go fly a kite (I’d have to buy one - used to have a great steerable one).
Cool something new and slightly challenging -something you’d like to become good at and might make quite a bit - order takeaway of that goes wrong. (I might try to make a good gazpacho or bitter orange tart or get better at pastry etc)
Is there a box set you/family have been wanting to see for ages which you could devote time to. Kind of cinema experience. Lights down. Popcorn. Showing times etc.
In reality I know for damned sure I will do chores and not as many as I should. I listen to audiobooks or podcasts which transform even the fullest of jobs.
Good luck op.

I'm spending Saturday as a volunteer vaccinator for the Covid jab! I'm quite excited to get a day away from the kids, even if it is stabbing people with needles all day!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 21/01/2021 16:47

Treating myself to trip to Asda on Saturday.
90 minutes childfree.

HeronLanyon · 21/01/2021 16:48

biscuits Halo saw
A young doctor on news earlier this week who was vaccinating and said this would no doubt be the most important thing he’d done and May well save more lives than anything else he may do in his whole career. Struck me how amazing it must be for those in healthcare. Hope it goes well. Jab jab.

Acunningruse · 21/01/2021 16:57

It is a struggle isn't it. The spectre of another walk (in the rain) hanging over us. But we are trying to stay positive and have a clear distinction between weekdays and weekends. So:
Friday evening- kids have pizza picnic in front of tv, shower and bed
DH and I have a bath with wine followed by a 'nice' dinner- tomorrow is steak ciabatta

Saturday morning: DS has online drama class for 2 hours. DH will take DD out for a walk to the shop whilst I do my Les Mills workout
Saturday afternoon: housework, games, a film
Saturday evening: littlest DD goes to bed whilst DS gets to stay up to watch masked singer, we have wine and crisps and he gets a can of Coke Grin
Sunday morning: kids get to go on tablets in bed so we all get a lie in then pancakes for brunch
Sunday afternoon: DH will go for a run and I will take kids for a walk
Sunday evening: family roast dinner
