Getting pregnant after vasectomy doesn't really happen to people, right?

Snip was years ago. Like 8 years.

Am a week late. Cramps and sore boobs for 7 days now but no bloody AF.
Am starting to get concerned Hmm but it's just one of those stories from friends of friends isn't it??

It can happen. Very rare but not impossible.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 19/01/2021 23:02

It is possible I think, but mostly if the man hasn't had all the checks to make sure it worked. After 8 years I'd think you were safe. Could you be peri menopausal, because that messes with periods.

LMNOPEE · 19/01/2021 23:03

I'm only 34, so I doubt it. Very regular periods.

I think it depends on the kind of vasectomy. One kind can reverse eventually but I thought it took about 15 years?

lunar1 · 19/01/2021 23:05

My friends ds is a post snip baby! When her husband went back to the Gp he was tested and it was confirmed it had reversed. 4 years after the procedure.

lunar1 · 19/01/2021 23:07

Just to add, he had all the checks. My friend also did a dna test as she never wanted him to have quiet doubts.

RainbowRaine · 19/01/2021 23:07

confirmed it had reversed
Anyone else looking sideways at their DH and thinking please don't ever let that happen to me.

LongIslandIcedT · 19/01/2021 23:14

Oh no don't!! I've been feeling phantom movements all day, I'm sure it's just digestive but I do still have a vasectomy failure panic every now and again.

SunshineThelma · 19/01/2021 23:17

Could it be stress related? I'm finding that the stress of this last year has made my periods even more haywire than normal.

Yup!!

Op- do a test?

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 19/01/2021 23:22

My brother had a vastectomy which didn't work, nothing is 100% I guess....

LMNOPEE · 19/01/2021 23:37

I won't buy a test just yet, I never wanted to do one of those again. I'll wait, I'm sure it's on its way.

Viviennemary · 19/01/2021 23:38

It does. Not very often but yes.

StillMedusa · 19/01/2021 23:55

Tell that to my friend! 3 children, her dh had the snip and the tests confirmed he was clear.

4 years later... pregnant! It was awful as he thought she must be having an affair, (she wasn't.. she adores him) insisted he got tested... and he was firing live ones again. His tubes had literally rejoined! The surgeon said it's rare but can happen.

She got sterilised after no 4 was born!!!

FoxyTheFox · 20/01/2021 00:27

The ends of the tubes can manage to reconnect and heal. The longer ago the vasectomy then the more likely it is because time heals all wounds, the human body is kooky that way, and the older method of doing a vasectomy had a higher failure rate than the more modern methods as previously they would simply cut the tubes and cauterise the cut ends (nowadays they usually remove a small section of the tubes before cauterising so that - in theory - they're too short to reconnect).

queenofSI · 20/01/2021 01:52

possible but very unusual

LMNOPEE · 20/01/2021 21:02

Still nothing. I would have placed bets on it coming last night. But nope

A friend's DH had the snip after their third child - a year later their twins were conceived.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 20/01/2021 21:37

I think you should test to put your mind at ease. It's really unlikely that you're Pg.

LMNOPEE · 20/01/2021 22:00

I will get a £1 test tomorrow to do on Friday morning.

OP posts:
WineInTheWillows · 20/01/2021 22:03

It's rare but can happen. I think you're right to test- either way, it's better to know ASAP.

scaevola · 20/01/2021 22:06

It's about 1:2000, but about half of that arises from abandoning other contraception before getting a proper all clear.

Spontaneous recanalisation can occur at any interval after the procedure.

Rory786 · 20/01/2021 22:07

Hi OP,

Just wanted to add that stress can delay your periods and God knows we are all facing different trials and tribulations.
My period was 1 week late (DH was sure I was pregnant) but it finally came.

bumpdownthestairs · 20/01/2021 22:07

The more you're worrying the more it's probably delaying your period (our bodies seem to be love like that!). Fingers crossed it appears soon 🤞

bumpdownthestairs · 20/01/2021 22:07

lovely*
