A song that was written in 1974 just took my breath away, literally

I went out for a long walk and had Spotify making suggestions. This song came up, never heard it before, and it stopped me on my tracks. I had to slow down as I was crying. This song was written in 1974 and I am 50. How have I not come across this song before? The song by the way is Diamonds and Rust by Joan Baez. Has this happened to you and what was the song?

Freddie Mercury

These are the days of our lives;

When we were kids when we were young
Things seemed so perfect - you know
The days were endless we were crazy we were young
The sun was always shinin'
We just lived for fun

I get teary just thinking about FM's life, all that talent and genuine heart felt desire to entertain the masses and how full of pain and heartache his real life was. But it's also meaningful during these times. Of all the things I ever worried about growing up, living through a pandemic just never featured. Ever.

There are several that make me think of my ds1 who I lost at two hours old. To Where You Are by Josh Groban, I'll Find Your Love by Beth Nielsen Chapman, Stay Another Day by E17.. I was listening to Spotify last year and Godspeed by The Dixie Chicks came on which made me sob... 😔 😔 😔

@MyDcAreMarvel

I felt the same about A Womens Work when they used it in the handmaids tale.
Totally agree. Amazing track used incredibly powerfully. Shivers.

Papa Can You Hear Me? by Barbra Streisand makes my breath hitch when I sing it, I just can't it's too emotional.

sadandstressedout · 19/01/2021 16:07

Hanson reaching for the sky part 1 and 2 from their string theory album I was actually astounded it was the little boys who sang mmmbop 🤣

butterpuffed · 19/01/2021 16:07

Josh Groban ~ You Raise Me Up. Not a sad song but still makes me weepy

FuzzyPuffling · 19/01/2021 16:08

Morningtown Ride by The Seekers.

Yes this. I used to sing it to my unborn granddaughter in utero. Sadly she was stillborn. I hope she heard me.

GlubGlubGlub · 19/01/2021 16:08

@nuitdesetoiles yes! Ken Booth’s version is so much better than Bread/Boy George

LadyOfTheFlowers · 19/01/2021 16:09

The Killers - Be Still
For when I need a little word with myself

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 19/01/2021 16:10

Famous Blue Raincoat by Leonard Cohen is so sad and haunting.
And lots of songs sung by Robin Gibb but particularly I Started A Joke. His voice is so searingly plaintive and raw.
And finally, Make You Feel My Love, by Bob Dylan. Is so beautiful.

Flowers and to your son or daughter too. That song was one of my favourites as a little girl.

Spiegel im spiegel - Arvo Part. A piano piece. I heard this years ago on the radio, loved it but missed the name and couldn't find it. Alexa randomly played it the other day so now it's on my most played. It's stunning

Wires by Athlete. Has heard it but suddenly HEARD it one day and it made me sob. I love it.

It's so easy to not hear the words of songs

Omg Love Wires!!!

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - O Children.

First heard it in part on Harry Potter but listening to the whole song gives me the most intense goosebumps.

KaliforniaDreamz · 19/01/2021 16:16

The Mother by Brandi Carlile
the first time i heard this i was on a train (long journey) and it floored me.

Outside of my windows are the mountains and the snow
I hold you while you're sleeping and I wish that I could go
All my rowdy friends around accomplishing their dreams
But I am the mother of Evangeline

My Mum’s favourite. We played it at her funeral.

Nick Cave - Love letter
Sent to me by an ex who wanted to try again after messing up years before.
So touching and poignant and major ‘if only’ vibes
