A song that was written in 1974 just took my breath away, literally

I went out for a long walk and had Spotify making suggestions. This song came up, never heard it before, and it stopped me on my tracks. I had to slow down as I was crying. This song was written in 1974 and I am 50. How have I not come across this song before? The song by the way is Diamonds and Rust by Joan Baez. Has this happened to you and what was the song?

So many of the songs on this post bring out raw emotion.
I've recently discovered "if I die young" covered by Naya Rivera. Breaks my heart when I hear it.

Heard Juliet by Mark Knopfler on Desert Island Discs. Tracked it down on Youtube and wept buckets

All Angels - The Sound of Silence

I have never heard that before either. It is lovely. What a voice. I don't like that many female voices but hers is amazing. As is my choice...
Fallen by Sarah McLachlan.

The Green Fields of France sung by almost anyone. The words and tune together send shivers up my spine.

I'm in love with his unusual voice.

Slipping Through My Fingers by ABBA. I have to switch the radio off if it comes on, too emotional!

VienneseWhirligig · 20/01/2021 22:38

Another one - Making Love Out Of Nothing At All by Air Supply. These lyrics are so poetic and it reminds me of DH - we would sing along to this in the car and he said the lines were how he saw me. It might be cheesy but I don't care!

Everytime I see you all the rays of the sun are streaming through the waves in your hair
And every star in the sky is taking aim at your eyes like a spotlight
The beating of my heart is a drum, and it's lost, and it's looking for a rhythm like you
You can take the darkness from the pit of the night, and turn into a beacon burning endlessly bright
I've got to follow it 'cause everything I know
Well, it's nothing 'til I give it to you

Fabulous thread! thank you PeaceLoveandCandy.
Been reminded of a few songs I absolutely love but haven't listened to for years - Angel by Sarah McLachlan, Songbird by Fleetwood Mac, This Woman's Work by Kate Bush. Also loving some of the songs mentioned that I've never heard before..we're so lucky to have them all at our fingertips. New playlist set up now but not sure I'll ever be able to listen to it for very long Sad

Abba, slipping through my fingers,. It's about her daughter growing up, it makes me cry, I have 4 children, the youngest is 20, and how I long for them to be my little one's again 😭

Lynne63 · 20/01/2021 22:50

She wrote that song after a phone call from her ex lover Bob Dylan

Ayshea's Dance by Aram Katchaturian.

I was in Las Vegas 10+ years ago watching the Bellagio fountains and this music was playing, the most beautiful beautiful, haunting music, shiver down the spine..I called the hotel to find out the name. I couldn't watch the fountains with any other music after that!

Magpie1976 · 20/01/2021 23:14

The living years was released at the same time as my dad died. I was 12. Such a beautiful sad song

Magpie1976 · 20/01/2021 23:16

Also Last Kiss by pearl Jam. Such an emotional song

Toughie · 20/01/2021 23:25

The band played Waltzing Mathilda by The Pogues.
6 minutes of story-telling perfection delivered perfectly. Makes me weep and furious at the same time.

Mamapuddlefluff · 20/01/2021 23:29

N17 the Tolu Makay version from the RTE Late Late show from new years eve I think. Especially this year as we face another funeral stream rather than being with my family in the west of Ireland.

poppet31 · 20/01/2021 23:37

For me it's 'this is me' from the greatest showman. We had just been shown a profile of our now son who we adopted. We were deciding whether to proceed with the match as our son had more needs than we were expecting and we had some doubts. This song came on and I remember hearing the words 'and I know that I deserve your love. There's nothing I'm not worthy of' and just knowing that he was the one and he absolutely deserved a family. I can't hear it now without welling up thinking in some parallel universe, he isn't mine.

Ash2956 · 20/01/2021 23:47

Cats in the cradle..I
Had forgotten how sad that made me feel. It’s poignant now especially.
