Listening to tv clip on phone in a cafe

Just had a discussion with a relative. Is it rude to listen to a tv clip (about 5 minutes long) in a cafe out loud? Loud enough for other diners to hear. What do you think?

Depends - diner at the next table in fairly close vicinity (Covid distance) hearing it or all of the restaurant? What was the clip? Was the viewer with other people? Why were they watching it then?

FelicityPike · 17/01/2021 16:20

Very rude.

Spidey66 · 17/01/2021 16:22

I could tolerate a T.V. clip, though I'd probably use headphones myself. Music, no not really. I think the difference is a tv clip is only like hearing others talking.

lunar1 · 17/01/2021 16:25

Yes, nobody should have to listen to whatever someone else is watching in their phone.

CMOTDibbler · 17/01/2021 16:27

Really rude, no matter the age of clip watcher.

fizzybootlace · 17/01/2021 16:28

Yes very rude and really annoys me - get some headphones or at least put it to your ear!! It's the same on a train or any public place.

Sometimes sounds start coming from my phone and I dont know why, like an advert pop up thing . I then start asking the family "who is doing it?" and it's me!! 🙄

Yogatomorrow · 17/01/2021 16:28

Just the news. About trump and loud enough for most of the cafe to hear (small and mostly empty).

Bytheriogrande · 17/01/2021 16:29

Yes it's rude

TonTonMacoute · 17/01/2021 16:33

Rude, use headphones ffs.

partyatthepalace · 17/01/2021 16:35

Yes.

LaPoesieEstDansLaRue · 17/01/2021 16:35

I'd find it really rude and annoying

Aquamarine1029 · 17/01/2021 16:36

Horribly rude. This makes my blood boil, honestly.

Diverseduvet · 17/01/2021 16:37

Very rude. Read the news or use headphones.

LetItGoGo · 17/01/2021 16:37

Yes it's rude.

user7778 · 17/01/2021 16:39

Yes, it's really bloody rude - why on earth do other people want to hear it? They don't

mnahmnah · 17/01/2021 16:41

Yes. Like people who walk along in public playing music on their phone.

SquirtleSquad · 17/01/2021 16:43

Incredibly rude and annoying

Ragwort · 17/01/2021 16:43

Yes, rude.
Literaryseed · 17/01/2021 16:44

Yes very rude.

BriocheBuns · 17/01/2021 16:46

I think it should be done only if you have earphones in, not otherwise. Or unless the place is empty

DrFoxtrot · 17/01/2021 16:47

It's rude. Whatever someone does should have minimal impact on others.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 17/01/2021 16:48

Yes it’s rude. I’d be annoyed if I was having a nice coffee in a quiet cafe and someone decided to play a tv clip (or music, or anything) out loud.

Xiaoxiong · 17/01/2021 16:49

Only not rude if watched with earphones. I absolutely hate people doing this. And it doesn't matter if it's only voices not music, it's completely different to hearing people's voices in real life.

I also hate when people have conversations in cafes or on buses on speakerphone, for the same reason.

Lofu · 17/01/2021 16:50

I can't believe anyone would question whether this is rude or not. Of course it's rude!
