Listening to tv clip on phone in a cafe

Just had a discussion with a relative. Is it rude to listen to a tv clip (about 5 minutes long) in a cafe out loud? Loud enough for other diners to hear. What do you think?

yes it's rude

Toddlerteaplease · 17/01/2021 16:53

Yes. Really annoying!

NoMoreFlowers · 17/01/2021 16:53

Rude and thoughtless

UseOfWeapons · 17/01/2021 17:14

Rude, definitely. Selfish too, why should others be forced to listen to some crap on someone else’s phone?
Use headphones.

MorrisZapp · 17/01/2021 17:15

Rude and arrogant. Loathe this so much.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 17/01/2021 17:18

Really rude and selfish.

This is what headlines are for.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 17/01/2021 17:19

Headphones!

NeedWineNow · 17/01/2021 17:23

Yes, it's rude and ill-mannered. Just because you want to listen, it does not mean everyone else does. It is one of the things that I do not miss from the commute now I'm WFH. It used to irritate the life out of me. Listen with headphones or not at all.

iklboo · 17/01/2021 17:54

In that case it's incredibly rude. No need for it at all.

debwong · 17/01/2021 18:19

Yes it's very rude and selfish.

OppsUpsSide · 17/01/2021 18:20

Yes

LizB62A · 17/01/2021 18:27

Very rude
Same when letting children play electronic games in public places - either use headphones or just don't do it

Lauren1983 · 17/01/2021 18:34

Very rude.

I saw it backfire on someone doing it once. They sat next to me on a bench at a railway station and started watching something on their phone which was quite loud. They were also laughing loudly at what they were watching.

About 10 minutes after we had boarded the train, they stood up and asked if it was the train to Didcot. It wasn't. Maybe that taught them a lesson to pay attention and not watch stupid clips!

MozzchopsThirty · 17/01/2021 18:44

Yes fucking irritates the shit out of me
Just put some headphones on
It's not difficult

Fallstar · 17/01/2021 18:52

I find this really rude and selfish.
Why do people assume I want to listen to what they're listening to?
Use headphones!

Ghostlyglow · 17/01/2021 19:04

Yes it's rude. DP randomly watches videos whilst sat on the sofa next to me and it really winds me up.

Covidcovid · 17/01/2021 19:05

Really rude.

Ragwort · 17/01/2021 19:05

I'm amazed you even need to ask the question OP, of course it's rude.

blue25 · 17/01/2021 19:08

Yes it’s rude! Including when children do it. Take note everyone who thinks it’s fine.

Chambored · 17/01/2021 19:16

Yes, very rude.
Same with playing music outloud.
Use headphones.
Other people don’t want or need to be subjected to another person’s choice of TV programme, film or music. (Often shite I find)

Yogatomorrow · 17/01/2021 19:45

I'm amazed you even need to ask the question OP, of course it's rude.

I do think it is really inconsiderate. My relative informed me that it was normal and only me who thinks so. Nice to know that actually most other people consider it to be both rude and irritating.

Yes ill mannered and antisocial. I see a lot of teenagers doing it and mostly I assume they are just not brought up very well and were never taught any manners rather than intentionally being rude.

Sorka · 17/01/2021 19:47

Very very rude. Selfish and inconsiderate. Either use headphones or wait until you’re home.

EileenGC · 17/01/2021 20:36

Extremely rude. I now stare intensely at people who do this. Most of them stop.

It especially irritates me when someone on the train is doing it during my evening commute. You don't know if that person is tired, has a headache, just got off a 12h shift or was discharged from hospital 10 mins ago and they're still a little groggy.

Headphones were invented for a reason.

Oldraver · 17/01/2021 20:45

There are several people that do this in our wet park canteen. Really fucking annoying
