Do you have certain foods that don’t agree with you?

I get eczema and itchy blotchy skin and I’m sure it flares up after dairy, especially something like fresh cream.

I get indigestion from some foods like peppers.

I have also started getting an upset stomach every couple of months and I can’t work out a trigger for that but it is possibly too much bread/wheat/cereal.

I would love to do an elimination diet but I find it too hard to do for more than a day or so.

Are there certain foods you can’t eat and give you a reaction? How can you be sure?

@MrsDThomas

I cannot eat cold pancakes. I get terrible indigestion it feels like a heart attack!
I can't imagine how you would have discovered that, why would you ever eat cold pancakes?

I find citrus and dairy both bring my skin up, in slightly different ways. And soya if I have a lot of it.

I have a "danger list".

Excruciating stomach pains and bloating even in minuscule amounts.

The devils are ..

Eggs
Peppers
Mushrooms
Pineapple
Cream

Thankfully I'm fine with chips. Bloody love chips. (Just the 4 stones overweight)

Milomonster · 16/01/2021 13:32

Quorn - food of the devil. Runs, excruciating abdominal pain, sweats, headache, vomiting, tiredness.

This is interesting, my partner keeps suffering with constipation every 10 to 14 days and we thought it might be wheat or gluten but blood tests and a colonscopy showed nothing, he took it out his diet and tried nothing new apart from roast potatoes in olive oil and normal bisto gravy and it all kicked off again. Always presumed it would be a group food like wheat or gluten but by going by others issues maybe its random foods we wouldn't think of

Scaredykittycat · 16/01/2021 13:39

Bisto has gluten in it.

IndieRo · 16/01/2021 13:42

Kiwis make my mouth itchy. Jalapeños make me ill.

Anonanon12 · 16/01/2021 13:43

Yes sorry we realise its in the Bisto but because he has eaten gluten all his life with no problem, it's odd to suddenly have such an extreme reaction but this thread shows people suddenly developing issues later on in life so maybe this is the same with him, and by eliminating it for a few weeks, it was then worse when he had it

justanotherneighinparadise · 16/01/2021 13:47

Nuts. I know nuts hate me as I feel like crap after eating the.

Thelnebriati · 16/01/2021 13:59

I recently started using low lactose milk, it doesn't trigger my eczema or cause stomach upsets like semi skimmed does.

Quorn and fake sugars like stevia cause the same bad stomach reaction for me.

Scaredykittycat · 16/01/2021 14:28

@Anonanon12 my family members didn’t present with gluten sensitivity until later in life (same for me), weird isn’t it?

TweeterandtheMonkeyman · 16/01/2021 15:41

@Milomonster me too!! The only two things I absolutely cannot eat are Quorn and mussels - both give me horrendous cramps, runs, vomiting , sweats .

ShowOfHands · 16/01/2021 15:46

I'm mostly okay but Quorn causes a violent reaction and coffee makes my heart race and I feel anxious and nervous if I drink even half a cup.

I struggle with raw cruciferous vegetables too which is normal if eaten in any quantity but even a little can make me unwell.

LunaNorth · 16/01/2021 15:52

Gluten - I haven’t been tested for coeliac disease (mainly because I didn’t want to eat gluten again before the test) but my sister has and is positive, so I work on the assumption that I am too. I feel so much better on a GF diet. Like a different person.

Eggs make me feel headachey and nauseous, particularly the whites.

Red onions and sprouts give me terrible wind if they’re not over cooked.

Quorn gives me terrible indigestion.

And I don’t drink alcohol - it makes me fall over.

4cats2kids · 16/01/2021 16:18

Raisins. I get really bad wind and it smells hideous.

amusedbush · 16/01/2021 16:37

Pesto gives me terrible heartburn.

I find beef hard to digest. I get really bloated and farty.

Fresh pineapple really hurts my mouth. I know it’s because of the bromelain enzyme but it doesn’t affect other people I’ve mentioned it to.

I’ve been considering cutting out dairy as it seems to make my skin break out and I get really phlegmy.

WalkersAreNotTheOnlyCrisps · 16/01/2021 16:40

Pineapple juice. Has a pretty near laxative effect 😬

PepperPotty · 16/01/2021 16:42

I’ve had a few cases of upset stomach/heartburn after eating lentils.

Also stomach cramps from soya milk.

And I can’t hack too much sugar/refined foods like bread as my blood sugar goes mad and I feel awful/struggle to sleep.

baumwolle · 16/01/2021 16:44

Eggs, apples, milk, bananas, Quorn (but not normal mushrooms)

Abracadabra12345 · 16/01/2021 17:00

@WankPuffins

Eggs.

All of a sudden, about a year ago Confused

Can eat them in food (cakes, phew), but not cooked alone. I get a horrible brick like feeling stomach ache all day after.

Pain in the arse as I eat low carb so eggs are great for that.

I love eggs but suddenly started finding them hard to swallow then recently had a strong allergic reaction to them. Such a shame.

The brick like feeling comes with bread which I love. I changed to a gluten free one and I was fine after my toast, and no bricks!

LucyLatimer · 16/01/2021 17:06

Avocado gives me really bad stomach pains. All stone fruits and lots of raw vegetables like potatoes make my skin itch madly, but fine when cooked. I suspect oral allergy syndrome

PervyMuskrat · 16/01/2021 17:11

Lentils and plums give me cramps and the runs within a couple of hours. It’s why I always raise eyebrows at the “bulk it out with lentils, no one will be any wiser” advice for mince dishes as you’d know about it pretty fucking fast if you fed it to me!

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 16/01/2021 17:49

Raw tomatoes often make my mouth sore but I love them so tolerate it.

Onions, garlic and cruciferous vegetables give me terrible bloating/wind.

Red wine and spicy food give me bad bladder discomfort, like I have a UTI.

Getting older is so much fun

MinnieJackson · 16/01/2021 18:26

I love gherkins but very rarely have them now as I get really bad acid reflux
at night. Gruyere cheese makes my mouth itch weirdly, and bananas. Peeling potatoes makes my hands come out in a rash.

NeonSparkle · 16/01/2021 18:47

Oranges give me migraines,
Too much gluten seems to build up and give me an upset stomach (I’m ok with a tiny bit but I can’t push my luck lol)
Kiwis give me a really bad upset stomach,
I’m absolutely fine with cheese (thank god) but drinking milk or having cream also gives me a terrible upset stomach, and sometimes a rash as well!

TattyBo · 16/01/2021 22:58

Oats! They give me an awful hangover type headache every time without fail. It’s strange as cannot find any online info about oat intolerance.

My DD comes up in hives if she eats carrots.
