Do you have certain foods that don’t agree with you?

I get eczema and itchy blotchy skin and I’m sure it flares up after dairy, especially something like fresh cream.

I get indigestion from some foods like peppers.

I have also started getting an upset stomach every couple of months and I can’t work out a trigger for that but it is possibly too much bread/wheat/cereal.

I would love to do an elimination diet but I find it too hard to do for more than a day or so.

Are there certain foods you can’t eat and give you a reaction? How can you be sure?

I have so many. It's sometimes a pain but I've got used to it over the years.

I am gluten free and vegan and also have a few odd ones.
Oranges or orange juice cause my eyes to itch and swell. Edamame beans as a bean causes the most painful stomach spasms but I can take soya products. And a certain kind of passata once put me in hospital with an anaphylaxis type reaction.

I have IBS and eczema that flares up with gluten or dairy. I used to miss certain things but I've been gf for 15 years now and just used to it. It's not worth the pain it causes.

I have also found that some I have grown out of and changed.

When i was a kid (in the 70s) the diluting (orange) juice used to make me wheezy. Goodness knows what was in it. But i used to get itchy under my ' armpit ' i would tell my mum.

Then in my 20s I took a strong reaction to certain red wines. I would come out in itchy hives all over and my eyes and mouth would swell up. I was on strong antihistamines for years. I outgrew that.

Then I had years of cheese and chocolate giving me migraines in my 30s. That went as well.

I don't really notice anymore until I go somewhere to eat and then realise how restrictive it might seem to other people.

I feel it's under control and I know what to avoid. Some people's reactions can be odd. My dad and his wife really struggle with it and i know they think I'm being precious. But they have never seen my in hospital with my face and tongue swollen looking like the Elephant man struggling to breathe. It can come on so quickly I don't even need to phone first, I am supposed to go straight to A&E if it starts.

Too many eggs have me on the loo for days, annoying because I love them. This also goes for onions and tomatoes if I have too many.

Most fruit gives me heartburn as do flaky pastry products.

Dairy but weirdly cheese (in moderation) is okay. At best it's nausea; at worst it's an urgent dash to the bathroom and hours of feeling horrible. Fortunately there are lots of dairy free products around now so I can enjoy ice cream again.

Coffee gives me the runs, white bread gives me a headache and chocolate gives me heartburn. I avoid the first two and mainline gaviscon.

Yes, fatty foods, white bread (especially French bread and pizza), white pasta, sweet stuff including fruit ... all gives me heartburn. Brown rice veg and chicken is the kind of stuff that doesn't but it's super boring so I pop pills instead and eat whatever I want

Oh and coffee really doesn't agree with me and caffeine in general keeps me awake

Too much wheat doesn’t agree with me, and I definitely have to avoid processed bread and cheap pasta. I also find a feel a bit off if I have too much milk (eg a latte two days running) and I have very little cow’s milk overall, but eat a lot of yogurt. If I eat too many eggs, or something like scrambled eggs or omelette that is too well cooked, I get a weird sick headachy feeling. Confused

I used to eat vast quantities of tomatoes, and I did an elimination diet (for other reasons) and found that tomatoes made my joints hurt! So I try to eat them in moderation now, which is fine.

My dad can’t eat raw onion, it makes him sweaty and faint.

If I eat scrambled eggs with a hangover it's disastrous. Last time I tried it at Xmas I shat my pants on a dog walk afterwards. It causes my arse to properly violate the Geneva convention.

Pineapple gives me a stomach ache.

Anything with sweeteners gives me huge discomfort/belly ache and worse.

Coconut oil in vegan cakes. I can taste it and know that a bit later on I will feel queasy and get the runs. I don't actively choose the cakes but coffee shops don't have lists of ingredients.

Quorn, it is hit and miss, sometimes a problem, sometimes not, haven't get worked out which varieties cause problems so maybe what is added to it.

Cucumber, used to be fine but as I get older I find it more difficult to digest.

Coffee, makes me feel sick, always has.

Haggis gives me bad heartburn. I just switched to the vegetarian one, but for the amount I eat it I probably could have just cut it out of my diet.

More and more so many foods I use to eat I can’t most fresh meat these days & dairy, some veg, pork in any form.

Have a look at the AIP diet for people with autoimmune conditions, it explains about certain foods triggering reactions and how they effect people with AI conditions. Eczema is also an AI condition of the skin, so it may help. My DD has bad eczema, her triggers are dairy, fish, dust, mould, strawberries, there are other things she reacts to which we havnt pinned down yet.

Yes, lots.
MSG, caffeine, nitrites/nitrates in preseved meat, alcohol if I have more than about 1 unit, too much soy, most artificial sweeteners, blue or green cheese, some ingredient used in sweets (things like haribo etc) - triggers dreadful migraines. I still get migraines, but less since I overhauled my diet.
Wheat, really irritates my gut. Just low level, mostly, but I did an exclusion diet a while ago, & reintroducing it was horrible, painful for weeks & I gave up with it. I stayed fully GF for 6 months. Tested negative for coeliac though & I'm fine with oats, rye & barley.
Sometimes I get weird heart thumping after I eat carbs, especially sweet food like cake. Not always though.
And tonic water makes me feel queasy & like my stomach is sort of churning. Apparently quinine intolerance is pretty common.
Blackberry seeds. I may as well take a box of medical grade laxatives. In & out in about 2 hours, so painful! (I like blackberry jam though, I just cook the berries & strain all the pips out before adding anything else.)
Almond milk. I can't keep it down. No idea why. I'm fine with almonds.
Lactose - but only mildly. It blocks my sinuses up, a bit. But I only avoid dairy if I've got a cold or bad hayfever. Too much hassle to avoid all the time, alongside all the other things I can't have.

Semi skimmed/skimmed milk, and anything low fat or dairy free substitutes like fake cheese makes me ill.

I keep trying it in small amounts to try to get used to it without success.

Shop bought bread containing pea flour/chick pea flour and other weird stuff rather than all wheat makes me bloat. Am OK with chick peas and hummus.

So many things! I have IBS and any of the following will set it off and I am up half the night if I eat them for dinner!

Onions
Carrots
Peas
Red meat
Chocolate puddings of any description
Rapeseed oil
MSG
Bread with seeds in
Garlic
Corn
Chinese/Indian/any spicy food

It's so annoying and basically I can only eat chicken and fish with vegetables and sauces.

I get a skin rash whenever I’ve had lychees. It’s such a weird one and it took me until the age of 30 to workout the source of the rash I got every few years.

Actually, on reflection (previous post) it is more likely to be the palm oil that is obligatory in shop bought bread these days, rather than the chick peas. Palm oil/coconut oil = belly ache/ poor cholesterol.

TornadoOfSouls tomatoes belong to the nightshade family like spuds and peppers and if I remember correctly from a book I recently gave to my friend Superfoods, it says to be avoided by those who suffer from joint problems.

I have an allergic reaction to mangos as well.

Basil makes me queasy.
Cinnamon also makes me queasy, apparently it can cause swelling of lips and throat.

Have a problem with eggs. Fine baked in a cake, but if I eat something that is more egg based (quiche or omelette for example), i am suffering for it later and have to spend a long time in the bathroom.

Just over two years ago i started to get gastric episodes sporadically. Would start with sulphurous burps, sometimes vomiting and terrible painful diarrhea. After much trial end error it turns out the culprit was wine. I dont drink often so it took a while to make the connection. I was absolutely miserable when i couldn't work out the cause, afraid to eat anytime unusual.

I love mushy peas but they give me stomach pains and make me fart. And wine gives me a migraine.
