Do you have certain foods that don’t agree with you?

I get eczema and itchy blotchy skin and I’m sure it flares up after dairy, especially something like fresh cream.

I get indigestion from some foods like peppers.

I have also started getting an upset stomach every couple of months and I can’t work out a trigger for that but it is possibly too much bread/wheat/cereal.

I would love to do an elimination diet but I find it too hard to do for more than a day or so.

Are there certain foods you can’t eat and give you a reaction? How can you be sure?

Pepper an cucumber make me burp a lot.

IrmaFayLear · 16/01/2021 09:42

Peppers. I really like them, but I might as well eat a whole box of laxatives....

HeronLanyon · 16/01/2021 09:43

Wine (flat not champagne/cava) and sweet sickly Prosecco. - make me so drunk so quickly and awful hangover. Haven’t drink since early adulthood.
Onions have become clearly linked with bad headaches.
MSG if ever I have it unknowingly - blinding headache - close to migraine (which I have had)

Red meat -I love - but it gives me wind.

MrsDThomas · 16/01/2021 09:46

Oh cucumber. Repeats on me too.

CreepyPasta · 16/01/2021 10:03

Quinoa. Whenever I’ve eaten it I’ve thrown up within half an hour.

Bawdrip · 16/01/2021 10:06

Caffeine- I'm up all night shaky and nervous
Alcohol- I get drunk on one drink. Dry January has made it clear I don't need it and don't miss the straight to hangover feeling
Bread- especially cheap stuff give a me thrush within hours
Wheat products - bloating and lethargy
Beans and lentils- so much farting and discomfort
Eggs occasionally maje me feel tired and breathless. I somehow know when it will happen and instinctively reject them now. Sometimes I ear them and it's fine. Very weird.

After years if trying to be vegan I've accepted I can't eat that way. I now eat low carb all meat and veg is fine for me. I avoid fish as I think it's far worse firvtge planet than eating grass fed meat

LittleGungHo · 16/01/2021 10:10

I highly recommend the FODMAP elimination diet. I did it with the support of a dietician.
They can tell you the type of meals you can eat.

H1978 · 16/01/2021 10:19

Caffeine gives me terrible acid reflux which is a shame because decaf just isn’t the same.
Also prawns give me a rash for as long as I can remember but no big deal as I’m not a fan of them anyway.

WantChewbaccaForGood · 16/01/2021 10:22

Celeriac and borsch (sp? Beetroot soup) both give me awful stomach cramps.
Onions turn me into an evil smelling bottom-trumpeter (dd describes them as being "like a rotten fish that caught the plague").

comfycomfy · 16/01/2021 10:26

Eggs make me feel sick.
Pasta - lethargic.
Cauliflower, I can't even have a taste without blowing up and farting. The pain is awful.
Pineapple gives me mouth ulcers.

TheLuckiest · 16/01/2021 10:31

Leeks, fresh garlic and mushrooms all make me unbelievably bloated and farty.

Shame as I love all three.

A leek and mushroom dish with garlic would be disastrous...well, more so for my DH than me Grin

DH always regurgitates ice cream. Weird.

TheNorthWind · 16/01/2021 10:54

The problem that fellow itchy face and mouth ulcer sufferers probably have with pineapples and kiwis is that they contain certain enzymes that can be used as meat tenderizers. Bromelain and actinidain. They are degraded by heat, which is why you're safe once they're in a tin or a yoghurt.

Other fruits like papayas and mangoes might also be a problem. I haven't tested extensively, because I don't like it when my fruit starts digesting me.

What I can't explain though is why I have problems with cooked dairy products, especially grilled cheese - rashes, extreme thirst, lethargy, general malaise. Because I ate pizza. Yet a cheese sandwich or a chocolate bar is generally ok. What on earth is that about?

parttimecarriemathison · 16/01/2021 11:00

Blue cheese- 2 day migraine with nausea

EggysMom · 16/01/2021 11:04

Coffee - doesn't make me sick but gives me a very uncomfortable bubbly stomach.

Pork makes DH vomit, but he can eat bacon and gammon just fine.

poshme · 16/01/2021 11:05

French onion soup. I love it, but sadly I get awful belly pain and bloating.

Cucumbers make me burp- but not always. I think it's something to do with how old they are, and how long after they've been cut that I eat them.

FrenchFancie · 16/01/2021 11:12

Pineapple. I love it but sadly am quite allergic to it so best not

Purpleguitar · 16/01/2021 11:23

I was diagnosed with gastritis a few years back and have a number of things which cause problems
Apple - acute upper stomach cramps
White bread - bloating and lower stomach pain
Cheese - diarrhoea
Too much dairy overall - diarrhoea
Fizzy drinks - bloating and lower stomach pain
Anything in batter - bloating and stomach pain

Lettertoyou · 16/01/2021 11:24

It’s funny how different we all are.

@andynarwhal

Fresh pineapple makes my lips bleed and mouth ulcers pop up. Tinned is fine! Kiwi fruit gives me an itchy tongue. Never understood it. I flipping love pineapple too.
This is a 'thing'. I think there is an enzyme in fresh pineapple that does it but it's denatured by heat so not in tinned pineapple.
LabCoatPocket · 16/01/2021 11:26

Wheat. Makes me very poorly. I used to think it was gluten but after a lot of trial and error have found I am able to have vinegar, non wheat beer etc without issue.

Lactose. Milk and fresh cream make me vomit, always have done. I can stomach yogurt and cheese though. Apparently the proteins change when they make these though.

Cranberry juice. I like it but it just doesn't stay down.

Tea. Again, I like it, but it just doesn't stay down.

Steak guarantees a bout of colic within hours. Beef itself is fine.

It's not hard to avoid though!

Sturmundcalm · 16/01/2021 11:51

SO many things these days - middle age sucks!

Now dairy intolerant so don't have it the bulk of the time. I can normally get away with small amounts occasionally of processed dairy (e.g. chocolate or ice cream) but can end up feeling really ill...

Did an elimination diet years ago and turned out to be intolerant to oats which apparently is a really odd one.

Am allergic to grape mould which give me a headache, numb face and you can see a red line running down my throat so god knows what it has done to the inside... Can't tell which wines might have it so try to avoid wine generally.

Now have a reaction to onions and peppers, am ignoring that for now cause really can't face trying to cut them out!

I also try to finish eating at least 3 hours before i go to bed, longer if richer food cause otherwise I end up feeling like I want to vomit! Have just become a total precious princess in terms of my stomach, there's been a few times when I've had a really strong reaction to something but not been able to work out what it was.

iklboo · 16/01/2021 11:59

Iceberg lettuce gives me really bad stomach pains. Like a PP fresh pineapple makes my tongue bleed.
