If instead of Eton our politicians had been to Hogwarts which houses would the sorting hat have put them into?

I reckon Boris Johnson - Hufflepuff (sorry Huffflepuffs but he has to go somewhere)

Rishi Sunak - Ravenclaw

Priti Patel -Slytherin

But Hufflepuffs are loyal and hardworking!

Rummikub · 15/01/2021 15:01

Most of them in slytherin!

SquishySquirmy · 15/01/2021 15:04

Hancock and some of the lesser cabinet ministers hufflepuff.
But most of them - Boris, Patel, even Rishi would be Slytherin.
Not all Slytherin are smart, there are a lot of Crabbes and Goyles in the current cabinet.

Yes, fair point, Boris could be a Goyle character.

Any Gryffindors? They don't have to be Conservatives or do we think Gryffindors wouldn't become politicians?

I didn't know you could read Boris.

Yeah that would work.

I think most of them would be squibs or just muggles tbh.

JeannieTheZebra · 15/01/2021 15:16

Keir Starmer is Gryffindor. His background is mostly human rights law, then public defence and he became a politician to make the world a better place, even if he’s somewhat jaded now.

I thought Hogwarts was a state school?

Corbyn would be some elvish creature of the woods Hagrid pulled out of his arse

PumpkinWitch · 15/01/2021 15:23

Most of the government would be in Slytherin. Boris would definitely have been a member of the slug club with professor slughorn.

happylittlechick · 15/01/2021 15:26

Since the defining characteristic of slytherin is ambition and you sort of have to be ambitious to go into politics they'd likely all be slytherin.

That's more of a description of a hufflepuff. Griffindoors are brave but also hot headed and rash. I personally think Keir would be ravenclaw. Clever, thorough and meticulous.
GavsCloakOfInvisibility · 15/01/2021 15:49

I think Boris would actually be a Gryffindor - he's like Ron would have been if he hadn't met Harry & Hermione.

Gove is a Ravenclaw, much as it galls me to say. Along with Sunak.

Hancock is a Hufflepuff. So is Shapps.

GypsyLee · 15/01/2021 15:51

All of them Slytherin.
It seems to be where the sociopaths, narcissits and psychopaths were paced.
I often wonder whether it's Eton or going into politics that gives most of them a personality disorder.

That has actually made me laugh out loud 😂😂😂👏👏
BewareTheBeardedDragon · 15/01/2021 16:24

Didn't Hermione end up as minister for magic, so being in Gryfindor doesn't preclude one from political ambition?

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 15/01/2021 16:25

But agree that all Torys would clearly have been Slytherin.

AngeloMysterioso · 15/01/2021 16:43

HOW DARE YOU

UnaOfStormhold · 15/01/2021 16:45

Is Azkaban an option?

megletthesecond · 15/01/2021 16:51

Just because we're nice in Hufflepuff it doesn't mean we want Johnson.

TheDrsDocMartens · 15/01/2021 16:57

Slytherin for most of the cabinet. Williamson is a Squib. Gove is definitely a Death Eater.
Starmer Ravenclaw
Sturgeon Griffindor (stands up to lots of people)
Caroline Lucas Hufflepuff (loyalty to the planet)

TheHamsterCatcher · 15/01/2021 17:14

Bearing in mind that the sorting hat can take into account the childs choice... I'm not sure there would be mostly Slytherins actually.

They probably all think of themselves as brave or intelligent as their primary characteristic, and would want to be in either Gryffindor or Ravenclaw.

Hancock definitely a Hufflepuff though.

AlexaPlayWhiteNoise · 15/01/2021 17:31

Grin very good, that made me laugh out loud

They'd all be Slytherin.
Kier would be Ravenclaw.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 15/01/2021 18:23

Rees-Mogg is definitely in Slytherin. He's got the look of a slytherin about him.
