I'm having a bit of a sad day, twisted my knee in the snow and feeling a bit lonely. I want to watch something really funny to cheer myself up. Please send your recommendations this way.

Galaxy Quest gets my first vote, followed by Life of Brian. Now downloading some of the other popular suggestions, to find out what I've been missing.

Tremors

Lampan · 15/01/2021 00:11

Definitely Bridesmaids. It’s so painfully accurate and the humour is so observant.
I also love Step Brothers - I saw it at the cinema and wasn’t too impressed but it gets more and more hilarious with every viewing.

ichundich · 15/01/2021 00:12

Groundhog Day
Back to the Future
Mrs Doubtfire
The Secret Life of Pets I+II
Despicable Me I+II

Pushingnic · 15/01/2021 00:14

The nice guys!

Ryan gosling and Russell Crowe. It’s laugh out loud funny!

JudyGemstone · 15/01/2021 00:16

Withnail and I

Although the ending is rather melancholy.

I also really like This is the End, which is a lot more juvenile but with a feel good ending.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 15/01/2021 00:17

I was going to say StepBrothers but worried it wasn’t very highbrow - glad to see lots of other saying the same thing too! It’s the only film all 3 of my DC will agree on, we watched it on Xmas day last year.

Also loved Four Lions. Not very PC I’m sure but bloody funny.

Latenightreader · 15/01/2021 00:21

I don’t think anyone has mentioned my favourite yet:
What We Did On Our Holidays.

HearMeSnore · 15/01/2021 00:25

I love Four Lions too. The jalfrezi line! 😂
Very very dark comedy.

More lighthearted is Waking Ned. Always good for a giggle. And Without A Clue.

TheOneLeggedJockey · 15/01/2021 00:49

Clearly I am going to say Some Like It Hot!

And then the one-legged jockey said ... don’t worry about me, I ride side saddle!

Aahotep · 15/01/2021 00:58

@TheOneLeggedJockey
Enough of that rough talk, they went to a conservatory

@LuckyAmy1986

Sure this won’t go down well but I really do find white chicks funny... or I did when I Last saw it years ago!
There isn't many films that make me laugh, but this one definitely did
doggygal · 15/01/2021 01:25

@HearMeSnore four lions is amazing! However most people I think will hate it. All the films suggested are dependent on what each person finds funny or the mood their in, or who you watch it with. A miserable person won't laugh at anything

UltimateIrritant · 15/01/2021 09:08

@DollyTots

Death at a funeral (British version)
Brilliant - definitely my go to film and surprisingly not well known. British version only though
pheonixrebirth · 15/01/2021 10:46

Arthur 1 & 2 both are fab!
Porky,s - it's an oldie but so so good- the gym scene alone nearly ended me!
Bridesmaids
Meet the fockers
Tag- based on a true story, caught me by surprise. Isla fisher is fab in it!
Hangover- all of them!

Cookerhood · 15/01/2021 10:51

Can't believe it took so long for someone to mention "There's something about Mary"
Airplane
Life of Brian

ohtheholidays · 15/01/2021 12:15

See No Evil Hear No Evil bloody brilliant film and makes me laugh so much I struggle to breathe.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 15/01/2021 12:21

I watched peter rabbit the other day, accidently, but i really enjoyed it!

LagneyandCasey · 15/01/2021 12:21

I don't think anyone has mentioned Kingpin. It's mine and dh's go to funny film. Great cast too, Woody Harrelson, Bill Murray, Randy Quaid.

SinkGirl · 15/01/2021 12:25

@LuckyAmy1986

Nooooo! I had to review that for a magazine once and it’s one of my most traumatic work-related memories.

Of course it depends on your humour. I was extremely surprised by how funny 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street were, and when I’m feeling really down Forgetting Sarah Marshall is my go to film. I’m sure my film snob friends would be shocked given the films I usually watch 😬
