Good Morning all Dict8 ladies

I have mechanical keyboard. It's a gaming one but I use for typing also. I prefer them. You can 'feel' each key stroke. It's a bit like a typewriter feel I suppose.

Gally123 · 04/05/2021 10:38

Gaming keyboards can be expensive

danblack87 · 04/05/2021 11:25

Hi, hope everyone had a good weekend. Plenty of work on today I see.

Curlykris · 04/05/2021 11:59

Hi all, I'm a new starter. Have only managed to get one task today, hoping things pick up for me 🤞.

danblack87 · 04/05/2021 12:17

@Curlykris: Don't know what your specialties are so hope things pick up for you quickly -- call it an 'ice breaker'!

Meha5a · 04/05/2021 12:27

Mechanical keyboards are better for us as there is less impact on the fingers due to the springs under each key - I got that off Google 🤣🤣handy though as I am suffering a bit at the moment with my hands so will look into this, thanks for the info @musicismagic333

musicismagic333 · 04/05/2021 18:52

Yes, I think the mechanical ones are more clacky than tappy, if you know what I mean. I guess this might be annoying if you're having trouble hearing something?

Chrissols · 04/05/2021 19:06

@musicismagic333 I have a clacky one, but not difficult to hear with headphones, and if you have difficulty with a word you usually stop typing to try and work it out.......clacky than tappy is a great description

Chrissols · 06/05/2021 14:01

@Curlykris how you finding it, hopefully a bit busier for you

OP posts:
Curlykris · 06/05/2021 14:19

20 tasks in total! a few feedback notes 🤭 lol!

Chrissols · 06/05/2021 14:40

@Curlykris hopefully they were decent length tasks. They will be checking all your work to begin with, but soon you will find you only get one once in a blue moon and just get the odd 'thank you for your great work' email.

musicismagic333 · 06/05/2021 15:12

Just done my first letter, the only one available, but good introduction. Grateful that the doctor was reasonably clear. I forgot to make a note of the number of lines, so not sure if you get a chance to see that again?

Chrissols · 06/05/2021 15:17

@musicismagic333 where you see the number of tasks available displayed top left, to the right of that if you have done one task you will see '1' - click on that and it will show you the amount of lines you have done. You never have to keep a note as these stay for ever - and give you a running total of the amount you have 'in the bank'

musicismagic333 · 06/05/2021 15:19

Great, thanks. I don't remember seeing an agreed rate?

Chrissols · 06/05/2021 15:32

@musicismagic333 As far as I am aware, it is the same for everyone - 8 pence per line (a line being 67 characters I think). It has been the same for years and years, don't think it has ever been increased.....

OP posts:
musicismagic333 · 06/05/2021 15:36

I actually registered with them many years ago, but didn't actually do any work because I was working nearly full-time and had two kids. I can't believe their rate has not even gone up 1p a line. Also I guess that short lines like diagnosis etc are not long enough to count.

Gally123 · 06/05/2021 15:47

@musicismagic333 - I think if I remember correctly they count their lines as having 64 characters, so even short lines all add up. The section next to the task list tells you how many lines you have done, then in "my details" 'payment history' gives your running total of lines you can claim for - and also indicates when you have been paid. (Not yet for me but I was a bit late sending in my invoice)

Chrissols · 06/05/2021 15:48

@musicismagic333 no short lines don't count as it goes on characters. It is a shame there is no regulation as to what companies like this pay, none of them seem to be very good rates. Note sure if you have tried Accuro, their rates are abysmal, work out far less than minimum wage but if they can get away with it they will keep the pay low sadly

OP posts:
Chrissols · 06/05/2021 16:23

@musicismagic333 sorry I should have worded that differently, the characters do count, they just don't count as a line if that makes sense, i.e. diagnoses: is 10 characters

Curlykris · 06/05/2021 18:37

Quite short letters but good dictation. Just a case of adapting to their ways, as bit different to what I'm used to 🤔😅. Time will tell!

Chrissols · 07/05/2021 09:43

Gosh, no work whatsoever this morning. Haven’t seen this for weeks

OP posts:
danblack87 · 07/05/2021 10:56

@Chrissols: I have done a few but it is thin on the ground Sad

Chrissols · 07/05/2021 10:58

@danblack87 just starting to pick up now I think.....there will be loads this evening when I really do not want to work (I really like to keep evenings/weekends clear of work)

OP posts:
danblack87 · 07/05/2021 13:06

@Chrissols: yes it is picking up now but my daughter and grand-daughter have just been here for two hours and I have no intention of working this evening if I can help it .....

Chrissols · 07/05/2021 13:09

@danblack87 yes, I try never to work evenings and weekends, the reason I took on homeworking was for more sociable hours and more free time
