Yeah the spread is nothing to do with the Gov. buggering up Test and Trace, people not being able to self isolate because they wont get paid, overcrowded cramped housing and bedsits. On Channel 4 news last year they interviewed a care worker who lived in a room in a shared house and had to share a kitchen with several other families. I would have LOVED to have seen the reactions on here had second homes been taken over for self isolation purposes. Which could well have happened had they used the Civil Contingencies Act instead. Then the altruism and the "doing this to protect others" rhetoric would have disappeared in a puff of smoke.

Pagan101 · 11/01/2021 23:09

@goingtotown

No mask or visor, stay at home to protect yourself & others.
Sorry yes we'll just starve then eh?

What an ignorant comment.

Do you have any idea how impossible it is to get a delivery slot? Do you understand that food packages don't contain food for people with specific nutritional needs because of allergies? Do you understand that staying inside just isn't an option for some of us?

So it's ok to say those who can't wear masks should stay at home to protect others, but it's not ok to say the old and vulnerable should stay home to protect themselves? Gotcha.

RedMarauder · 11/01/2021 23:14

@Pagan101 if it was March/April/beginning of May 2020 you would be correct but now you are making up stuff.

Neversleepingever · 11/01/2021 23:32

Tbh, I'd settle on people wearing their mask correctly. I'd rather Morrison's challenge people who wear it under their nose/chin or take it off to talk/cough. Hmm

Grenlei · 11/01/2021 23:33

Threads like this are just appalling. Some of you need to take a bloody good look at yourselves.

Try to understand that outside your tiny, narrow, tunnel visioned worlds there exist people who have genuine reasons they CANNOT wear a mask.

As for saying ' well my daughter has autism and she wears one' that's ridiculous. I know 2 people with cerebral palsy. One is a wheelchair user and one isn't. I certainly don't tell the wheelchair user to get up and walk because other people with CP can do it, so she's clearly just putting it on and not trying hard enough!

When is MNHQ going to say something about the disgusting disablist views being espoused here and on other threads?

As for the 'other countries' argument, yes a lot of them also have a pretty poor record on disability rights too. Is that something we also want to aspire to?

Except the old and vulnerable are being advised to do exactly that - stay safely at home.

There would be a way to get necessities to your door, If you really wanted to.

No, I most certainly am not. You have no idea the area o love in and how densely populated it is.

And @Housing101 with your glib 'd you really wanted something delivering your your door you'd find a way' you clearly don't have a clue.

MercyBooth · 12/01/2021 00:39

Is that an offer @Housing101

CostaDelCovid · 12/01/2021 00:43

@Akire

Adults and children of all ages have to shield or self isolate. That involves not going to shops or leaving their homes at all. Really difficult to see how that’s so impossible for others. I’m not saying it’s pleasant but we are living in an air borne pandemic so it has to be done.
I'm a disabled single mother on a low income after my DH died. I can't get everything I need from online shopping (DD has ASD and only eats very specific foods) so sometimes I need to go into shops. I can't sit and watch my DD starve herself and just say to her "Tough, we're in a Pandemic" 🤷🏼‍♀️ Hmm
CostaDelCovid · 12/01/2021 00:51

@ginoclocksomewhere Not everyone who 'bought a bloody lanyard online" is lying.....Hmm

You sound delightfully ignorant & closed minded

CostaDelCovid · 12/01/2021 00:54

@ItStartedWithAKiss241 I beg your pardon?!?!

Morrisons offer a free click and collect service open to all. You don’t go inside the store at all. You can place an order in the afternoon for next day collection and there are plenty of slots. So no need for a delivery slot, although they have those too - admittedly they are harder to get. Morrisons near me even take orders by phone from non internet users and deliver next day for a small fee. If you can't wear a mask why would you put yourself through the added risk of infection and aggression from other customers when there are alternatives?

Given the options on offer, Morrisons would be justified in turning non mask wearers from their shop because there are better, safer alternatives for these customers. Also, whether or not they have a legitimate reason or not for avoiding mask wearing, these customers upset other customers and cause lost sales. Morrisons are a business after all. If a non-mask wearer infected a load of supermarket shoppers, the PR would be bad too.

garlictwist · 12/01/2021 05:15

I do think that wearing a mask is unpleasant and I genuinely found it really awful when we first started to have to wear them in the summer. But I did it and got used to it and now it's not so bad at all. I think the more people do it, the easier it is.

ScienceSensibility · 12/01/2021 05:23

About bloody time.

All these wish washy excuses are part of the reason why this country is still under the cosh of covid when so many others have come out the other side.

The percentage of people with absolute genuine reasons for not wearing a mask is tiny. Tiny.
Plus the fucking idiots who pull it down below the nose....

Brexit and covid have shown just how many truly stupid people there are out there.

turnitonagain · 12/01/2021 05:31

I hope more shops do this. If need be let’s have lawsuits and settle it in court. In a health emergency there is no reason for people to be exempted from one of the most effective methods of preventing spread indoors, without evidence. That means a card or GP sign off. Not just self declared health conditions. Anyone who needs physical or mental health care remains at elevated risk as the hospitals are all diverting resources to Covid.

@Soutiner. I’ve reported your post. People who wear masks are not “virtue signaling” , they are not “patronising” and in no way are they “martyrs”. It’s an inflammatory and damaging post.

Gurufloof · 12/01/2021 07:33

One, these other countries have not yet come out the other side, this is like the Spanish flu, will be rumbling around for years/decades yet.

Two you think a rape or domestic violence victim is being wishy washy? Well fucking Shame on you.

lightlypoached · 12/01/2021 07:34

Someone I know went to Dubai just before Xmas. The man next to them refused to wear a mask on the plane as 'he has asthma and couldn't breathe and was exempt'. Got to Dubai airport, where (as my mate puts it) are 'far less snowflakey than in the uk about non compliance' and hey presto, he puts on a mask with no issue as soon as he arrives.

I have full sympathy with people who can't and shouldn't wear masks, but they must be a tiny % of the population. In my brothers local supermarket nearly 50% of people weren't wearing masks. That's not possible, it's selfish bastards taking the piss. They are the ones being disablist, not those of us calling for tighter enforcement.

So true, and for those very small minority there could be a simple system of a GP endorsement that they could use as evidence if challenged.
lockeddownandcrazy · 12/01/2021 07:44

"Two you think a rape or domestic violence victim is being wishy washy? Well fucking Shame on you."

But being a domestic violence or rape victim does not automatically make mask wearing a no go.

Many other things could be an equivalent trigger - someone else has posted aftershave as an example as a massive trigger for a rape victim - so people could not be expected to ban that to avoid triggering someone else.

People who have suffered such a trauma and find masks hard to wear would have had 'official' help after the assault, so would be able to get an official letter.
