@Housing101

If I could find a mask that doesn't make me feel like I'm being smothered if wear it. 3 different types so far have not worked

One of those plastic visors?

They can still trigger a variety of conditions.
Goldieloxx · 11/01/2021 21:02

@onlyreadingneverposting8 exactly, my brother lives in a country that had ebola, mask wearing there is mandatory and as a result they no longer have covid, if you don't have a mask, you don't get to shop.

QueenPawPaws · 11/01/2021 21:03

Sainsbury's too. Says enforcing masks and shopping alone

DeeCeeCherry · 11/01/2021 21:04

My sister lives abroad. No mask, no entry

Same here with family abroad. It's implemented strictly, and that's that.

As a pp said, can't breathe wearing a mask? Try breathing with Covid, if you're unfortunate enough to catch it.

DN is an Optician, obviously store is strict about face coverings, trying on frames (you can try on but frames then go into a tray to be cleaned - not just put back on shelf.

The sheer numbers of people who try to circumvent this, is amazing. Either an excuse for not using Hand Sanitiser on entry (it makes my hands dry/oh I sanitised 5 minutes ago/using that stuff gives you cancer) or, trying on frames glancing around furtively and then placing them back on display instead of dropping them into the tray which is right next to them.

Then there's loads of people who are "exempt" - or they're wearing mask over mouth but not nose as it steams up their glasses/they can't cover up their nose/why should they wear a mask anyway.

Almost as if they're secretly elated by what they see as "getting one over" others. Or the system. Or making others uncomfortable. Or pride in not being a "follower".

I can't quite work out what it is but these pain in the arse people are doing a good job towards Tier 4 being extended way into 2021

Willow2017 · 11/01/2021 21:05

@Akire

How do you think those shielding or caring for those who are shielding are managing? Some local shops even do a shop via phone for the elderly. How can one group of just as old/vulnerable manage not going in a shop. Yet another group totally can’t. Really?
Because not all people with a disability or valid reason not to wear a mask are vulnerable?

How do you think supermarkets will cope with even more online orders for people unable to wear a mask?
Are you going to tell the person who served you "You are good enough to serve me/pick my online shop but don't dare walk into the shop for yourself without a mask"?

RetailGail · 11/01/2021 21:05

where have they said its the customers fault?

DOINGOURBIT · 11/01/2021 21:05

My daughter has autism, with very acute sensory problems. She hasn't stopped wearing a mask. She has three per day. One to wear to work, one at work, and one for the journey home, then she washes them all out for the next day. She's had panic attacks wearing them, but she wouldn't dream of not doing so. Why? Because she's scared not to. Why aren't others?

That's a downright nasty thing to say.

But true!

And before it gets to the unconscious on a ventilator stage, or when coming off?
When on oxygen and awake?

@AlternativePerspective

Ableism still reigns on MN i see. I’m not sure that it is tbh.

If you have a medical condition so severe that you are unable to wear a mask, then it stands to reason that you are likely too vulnerable to be going out anyway.

What nonsense. Not all medical conditions make you more 'vulnerable to infections. I know several people exempt but its nothing to do with thier immune system.
What about someone traumatised by abuse/rape and cannot bear anything over thier face? What about TN excruciating pain if something touches thier face?

Can nobody on here imagine anyone having differrent experiences from themselves or what they consider 'disabilities?

ToadsThePeanutButterSnob · 11/01/2021 21:14

@PaddingtonsSister so what? It just sounds like you bloody want people who are already vulnerable to get Covid. People on this thread are practically rubbing their hands together with glee. It's not on.

NoOneOwnsTheRainbow · 11/01/2021 21:19

The only people I see not wearing masks are supermarket staff who are incidentally bemoaning how dangerous it is that no one is wearing masks. Apparently covid only travels in one direction.

I actually don’t want anyyone to get it or pass it on to my family be because they will not wear a mask and see it as their right to risk others

If they cant then they cant but they don’t have the right to put others at more risk because they want to go shopping

ToadsThePeanutButterSnob · 11/01/2021 21:22

So why all the goady comments about Covid aimed towards people who can't wear masks then?

middleager · 11/01/2021 21:23

Poor compliance by me and I'm sick of it. Having seen how easily Covid spread to my child without masks at school, I support the no mask, no entry rule, with genuine exempions.

The piss takers are putting everybody in danger.

Lucindainthesky · 11/01/2021 21:23

It's funny how all those shielding live in the "lucky" areas where deliveries and click and collect exist. They manage to stay out of the shops.

But EVERYBODY who is mask exempt lives somewhere where there is no delivery OR click and collect available from any of the supermarkets, they don't have deliveroo, they don't have amazon, they don't have the 3rd party supermarket picker websites. In fact, there is only one supermarket in a 100 mile radius which doesnt do delivery. They would literally starve if they couldn't go into the shops without their masks on.

Funny that.

Be cause i think everyone should wear them or not go in the shop Why can some people have the right to put others at risk because have to be allowed in without a mask Other countries dont faff about like this
DOINGOURBIT · 11/01/2021 21:25

Clearly you have no understanding how autism affects senses, and even wearing a mask for a short period of time can be difficult. Telling a young lady with learning difficulties / autism do you want a medal is nothing short of rude and insensitive. Beats me why women feel the need to berate other women?

My point was that however difficult it is, she is scared not to wear her mask, and that is the overriding factor in wearing one. Not that she wants a medal, no.

I have autism. I can wear a mask now (though it took a lot of practice) but I understand that not everyone with autism can. Being able to wear a mask with some difficulty in no way makes me better than someone else with autism who is unable to.
