I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Thanks MissConduct, and that is a very handsome cat you have there.

In other (non) news, DH left the fridge door ajar for the third time in as many days. We've had this new larder fridge for a little over a year and it doesn't swing itself shut like our old one did, but despite knowing this he keeps 'forgetting' to push it closed. I may be getting a little more tight-lipped each time I have to remind him.

soddingkitten · 12/01/2021 13:10

I had a dental check up today with a new dentist. My teeth are all in good shape and the xrays were fun to look at on the screen. The new dentist is fine but I miss my old dentist. I didn’t enjoy standing in the rain waiting to be let in (COVID safety measure).

Silkiechickscat · 12/01/2021 13:11

I have been doing remote ed with DS today and has been like trying to motivate a sloth to run.

Thankfully very little content has been sent through, almost all repitition from previous lessons we've already done as keeping DS's attention for more than a minute has been proving a bit of a nightmare. Managed to get through English and science, got maths later.

Just heard a really loud crash / explosion sound and house shook. DD and I were what was that, the boys were both chilled. DD asked DS and he said oh it'll just be someone riding their bike into our front door. DD thought it was a helicopter crashing into our thatched roof. I thought it was on the road outside. DH is bringing things in so maybe something collapsed from that.

Squirrel26 · 12/01/2021 13:36

I am pissed off with this whole situation today. Have attempted to adjust my attitude by reminding myself that I am not ACTUALLY in danger, or in need, just mildly inconvenienced. Also, I bought myself some new masks in nice fabrics. And a cardigan. And a t-shirt. Oops. Blush

MissConductUS · 12/01/2021 13:50

Thanks Hilda, he's my handsome boy. He also likes to wake me up by crawling under the covers for a snuggle in the morning. Zoom hell starts in 10 minutes.

What situation Squirrel? Have you run out of nuts?

DH doesn't know what the explosion like noise was either, but he said neighbour was also out checking their house. DD said could hear a police helicopter noise straightafter and is saying it went on our roof. Just heard some things quietly falling down from roof but all I could see was a giant spider.

Silkiechickscat · 12/01/2021 14:05

No crime ever happens here but sometimes the police helicopter does fly overhead I think they get bored.

EggyPegg · 12/01/2021 14:13

Blimey @Silkiechickscat!

Inspired by @Frownette, I have started watching Desperate Housewives. I watched the pilot when it came out, but as I was 22, pretty much all of the nuances went over my head. This time round I've found it funny and relatable, so I think there's something to be said for the stage of life you're at influencing enjoyment of a show.

Next door is talking so loudly that I can hear them through the wall.

And in thread worthy news, we have run out of dishwasher tablets.

Squirrel26 · 12/01/2021 14:17

Just the same old same old pandemic, @Silkiechickscat. Every so often it just really pisses me off. I try to erect a mental ‘don’t go there’ barrier.

Do you think it was a sonic boom you heard? I’ve just seen a thread about one and I think you are towards Cambridgeshire/ East Anglia?

Silkiechickscat · 12/01/2021 14:21

Yes we live in Cambridgeshire, yes that could be it. Phew we still have a roof. Grin

I will tell DS. Maths was far too easy, shapes for y9 top set so he got bored after 2 minutes and said he could learn more in his sleep. I suggested he do his GCSE maths book I bought him but not sure he will do a lot.

I tend not to think much about the pandemic just day to day, its quite easy here as its a la-la-la chocolate box village.

Silkiechickscat · 12/01/2021 14:25

DS is super happy with a sonic boom.

iklboo · 12/01/2021 14:25

I have shingles. We are having lasagne for tea.

QuestionableMouse · 12/01/2021 14:30

I finally got round to ordering a graduation hoodie from uni. It's navy with grey writing and I can't wait for it to arrive. 😁

Champagneforeveryone · 12/01/2021 14:33

DDog1 continues to exist on Waitrose chicken breast and Forthglade packets. These however can only be hand-fed, as he's been so poorly that he cannot possibly eat from the nasty bowl Grin

DoctorTwo · 12/01/2021 15:59

Yes @Silkiechickscat it was a sonic boom, apparently from a Eurovision Typhoon racing to intercept a plane bound for Stansted.

EggyPegg · 12/01/2021 16:48

Intrigue!

We used to hear them fairy regularly where we used to go on holiday in Cornwall. Of course, we'd all look up, by which time it was miles away.
The base was in Helston, next to a Sainsbury's. I remember being sat in the car in the car park with the DC whilst DH popped in, and five lined up and took off one by one. The runway was right next to the car park and you could see through the fence. It was an incredible sight to watch them go one after the other, and then boom, gone.

I'm back from my run. Planned for 4 miles, did 10k (6.2mi) instead. Pleasingly I hit 6.2mi at the exact spot I started from. I think that might be the first time I've achieved that.

SecretWitch · 12/01/2021 16:52

Received the results of my daughter’s DNA test. 50% European Jewish. 46% English/ Irish/Scottish. Shocking.

I will say I was surprised to see 4% Norwegian.

Taswama · 12/01/2021 16:56

The tesco shop came an hour early. Luckily DP was home as I was out. All put away now and it shouldn't even have arrived yet.

Spudlet · 12/01/2021 16:56

@iklboo Oh no, are you ok? DH had shingles years ago, he said it was horrible - so itchy. Hope it’s not too bad for you.

We didn’t hear the sonic boom this time but we had one a couple of years ago when they scrambled fighters from (I think) RAF Marham. I think it was to intercept a plane that had an angry drunk on board 🙈 I mistook it for a bit of farm machinery going over a bump, which DH found hilarious BlushGrin

And for the thread felines.... gaze upon our latest creation ye mighty moggies, and despair Grin 🚀

iklboo · 12/01/2021 17:02

@Spudlet - thank you. Very itchy, painful & I feel wiped out. I'm resting as much as possible.

HelenaJustina · 12/01/2021 17:19

@Squirrel26 take care of yourself, I like the phrase ‘corona-coaster’ we’re all on different points on the track!

@Silkiechickscat glad you’ve solved the mystery!

My Headteacher suggested today that I take some time back, either popping home to check on my homeschooling DC during the day or going home early/coming in late. This was entirely unprompted by me and very welcome. I was all set to leap in with ‘great, I’ll be in at lunchtime tomorrow’ but her next comment was that I would be needed at the 9.30-11.30am meeting and the 1.15-2.45pm meeting tomorrow! Grin

EggyPegg · 12/01/2021 17:20

Sorry to hear that @iklboo

twitter.com/maddiemoate/status/1348985265977774080?s=19

Maddie from Do You Know has tweeted about it.

EggyPegg · 12/01/2021 17:20

The sonic boom that is. Not @iklboo's shingles.

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 12/01/2021 17:35

I got two new cookbooks today and booked a phone appointment for GP for tomorrow. Just been sleeping and taking it very easy

Silkiechickscat · 12/01/2021 17:36

Sorry to hear about your shingles Iklboo

Just saw on Twitter the plane was going at 1,150mph when it flew by us. Our neighbour thinks it flew over the village. The house is still standing anyway, think we have a few bits of roof fallen off but nothing major. At least it provided some lockdown entertainment, just hope the animals weren't too scared by it though rabbit is always very blase about everything. Cat forgets everything in a minute so its only the chickens really.

DH is down at old house for final clear out though that's his third visit for a final clearout.
